How does your game represent Mode?
You roll dice and the mathematical Mode (most common die value) determines what abilities you can use

Super good game. Absolutely incredible. Really makes you think about probabilities and strategies between your dice options and skills. The special sided dices really makes the game have replay-ability. Gave me Super auto pets vibes in terms of how well balanced and how much potential it has as a successful (single player) indie game.

After a couple bad starts, this was the best run for me.
Dices maximize probabilities of 6's (and then 4's) for most random rolls giving me shield. Then 1's to grind permeant strength. Shield throw was my main source of damage until i learned I could permanently increase strength with shield and self damage combo.

Every roll is either to shield up to balance out enemy damage, or hit the #1 dice on the final roll, while trying to hit for the least amount of damage possible to power up.

Come on dice roll what I want.

As a Dungeon Master myself, I really enjoyed playing this game. Can't wait for rogue and wizard. The Theme "Mode" was hit spot on.

This is exceptionally well made and seriously addicting, I found myself reopening the game multiple times in the day just to do more runs - there’s a good variety of cards and relics, and a great deal of depth to the core mechanics that makes it really replayable. I think the adding/removal of dice (as well as the weighted dice) replaces a lot of the randomness with more skillful gameplay and makes things feel a lot more fair/controllable, which is definitely what you want for a game like this.

The only issue I encountered is that it’s possible to get into an infinite loop - I had a shield throw build, where my only attack was shield throw on mode 1, and when fighting the pyromancer (which gives you slowly increasing burns) I couldn’t attack, since all my modes were perpetually +1. Since the build was really strong I couldn’t die either, since I just kept getting more and more block.

That being said, this is one of the most fun submissions in the entire jam, as well as the one I’ve spent the most time playing. Fantastic job. Definitely has potential as a full game.

Had a lot of fun doing the gamble.

The dice animation did take too long after a while, but just clicking should skip to the results.

And some of the enemies were a slog to fight, specifically the ones that disabled attacks.
By disabling them, you give the player less options. And in a strategy game of sorts, giving the player less options means less tactics and limitations. Especially when they are constantly being negated.

But regardless, it was a lot of fun and I spent a good chunk of time playing it.
Would love to see something like this pushed further and made into a full game!

Yooo, I was planning to make a game about the mathematical mode too (ɷ◡ɷ)  I'm happy to see a game based on it in a clever and engaging way.

Great work. Kudos to you! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

Damn I played this for a really long time and it was amazing. I think the dice roll animation should be able to be skipped because it drags it out a lot.

Lots of options here, so many items, abilities, enemies and dice options. Really well fleshed out game.

Congrats.

Thanks for playing! Good idea with the dice roll skipping, could definitely add a setting to automatically show the results

Finally I got around to play this game. The art style is so charming I was glued in right from the screenshots alone!

I'm a big roguelike fan and I love board game and dice games a lot (dicey dungeons for example for the one that involved both those aspect) so I was excited to see this game. I really love the power ups and attacks. I'm not sure if the calculation is often bugged? Since some times I tried to do more damage on purpose but I only ended with low damage and sometimes I got a high one with same amount of die. Or maybe I'm not paying enough attention. The mode implementation of this game is a bit too random in my opinion, would be great if player still can plan ahead or use the mode to their advantage instead of occassionally getting hindered.

If you do plan on continuing this game, consider updating the UI to show final damage calculation in face value for players instead of keeping it at x. The base is very solid already and I'll be looking forward if this game does get finished since I really adore this kind of game! Keep up the good work!

Hey another dicey dungeons fan! Thanks for checking out my game :)

Re: bugged damage, You’re probably missing the statuses which is why you thought the damage calculations were off? Eg if you were exhausted, then you’d only deal half damage, or if you had a lot of strength then you could deal a lot of damage even with a low mode

Good feedback for showing the players total damage total, was something I had planned but ended up running out of time to implement..

On the topic of mode being too random, that’s sort of the point of the game.. you need to deal with the dice you’ve rolled and figure out new plans if you didn’t roll what you were looking for. Of course as the game goes on, you start having more control over all of this as you gain more dice, more special weighted dice, more rerolls, or more relics that give you bonus statuses :)

Thanks for playing!

This is seriously a fun one! There are so many options to choose from and I felt like it was a balanced experience. I really liked being able to purchase die that were best suited for my moves.

Man, I love strategic roguelike games like this. And it's a really well executed idea too. Way better than my dice game in the 2022 GMTK jam lol. Keep it up!

Its a great game , being able to choose your moves with dice movement is really cool , i had fun playing it , keep it up!

This is very tight mechanically for the time limit. You put a lot of stuff in here too; I thought for sure the game was over after the boss but there was more!

Developer(+2)

Yep there are 3 levels to the dungeon with 3 bosses!

Spent most of my time developing all the subsystems, so adding in all the abilities and monsters was actually super easy in the end — just adding new entries to a json file :)

This is genuinely the best game in the jam. I played for way longer than I should have. Fantastic work.

Developer

Thanks for the kind words!! Out of curiosity what kinds of builds did you try out / enjoy?

This is a neat idea! Glad to see another person went with the "modal value of dice" concept! I really like the papery aesthetic

Developer

Haha yeah my mind immediately jumped to statistical mode and dice, and this was what came of it :)

Papery aesthetic comes from playing ttrpgs / other board games with friends, which is what was next on my mind after deciding on using dice

Thanks for playing!
