Wow, what an absolutely stunning game- one of the best i've played in this jam.

I've played deck builders before, but the way this non combat game made perfect sense and was emotionally engaging. Leaving behind memories you used to rely on to keep you going, slowly everything blanking from your mind except climbing. Difficulty was perfect, and i constantly felt tense i might not make it this time. When I reached the first peak i was almost disappointed because I wanted more, and then the game pulled the rug from under me and forced me to adapt quickly to a new strat on the go.

Awesome gameplay, inspired idea, terrific art. LITERALLY JUST SO COOL

Thank you so much for trying! Very glad to hear the emotional aspect hit home. We are creating a full version of this game, and are going to be updating about the progress here on itch :3

Awesome. Simply awesome. Congrats on this, I'm glad to have played it. Loved the music so much, that's usually where my mind sticks when playing gamejams. You killed it.

Wow - really impressed!  Great art, great sound and fun to play.

This was really good! I like the push and pull of needing to re-structure the deck a bit when you've fallen. I think the balancing would benefit from more card options, but I understand that's a limit of time constraints

Developer

We actually had a few more cards programmed in, but chose to cut them to make the game easier to understand. We’ll definitely have more cards in the full steam version :3

It was very good, in all aspect! I made it to the end and I really enjoyed it. :)

I would only suggest to nerf a little the 2 step card (the ones with scribbles) because I had a lot of those cards in the last section, and it was less challenging.

The strategic aspect of this game and the risk to fall, is what makes it stressful but fun.

Very well done to all the team behind it!

Developer

Thank you so much for trying it! We are definitely reworking the balancing of the cards for the steam version, those scribble cards were really there to emphasize the apathy of losing everything you love, and we’re trying something a lil different for the full version. So feedback kept in mind!

Very good game!  The use of a card deck is unique with this premise, and the periodic sacrifices help ramp up the challenge the further you go and make it more of a struggle overtime to get to each checkpoint before your emotional meter runs out.  A simple but fun gameplay loop, and I enjoyed playing all the way to the end!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for giving it a try! We are on our way to develop a full version of the game, so stay tuned if that sounds interesting to you.

I like the idea, I did not finish it but I think there's potential :) It seems you'll go for a Steam release so, I'll follow to see where it goes

Developer

Thanks!

Excellent !!!! GG

Wow, this was such a creative deck-building experience. It was challenging enough where I had to think of what to lose and balance that with the challenges ahead except for the end which was incredibly sad. You got a follower out of me definitely. Great original concept, and I enjoyed it thoroughly with tears.

This game was captivating. It got easier near the end but I'm not sure if that was by design, as if the closer you are to the peak the more your adrenaline kicked in. Not sure is that's what the "squiggly lines 2 steps no physical "was indicating, it seemed dark but regardless I'm glad I finished it. Well done!

Developer

So the story is based on the sacrifices I’ve made (intentionally and not) along the way to try and live off something I love doing. Music, art, gamedev. The sacrifices are to show what I’ve lost along the way trying to reach the goal. And that final stretch? That’s apathy creeping in. That’s when you’ve gotten so good you can just keep on going, but you really start thinking “is this even worth it anymore?”. We’re going to turn this into a full game, and make it a bit more hopeful, but while we were developing this we realized “oh fuck this is actually really dark”.

I'm not really one for card games, but this was really solid! I thought I was doing pretty good up until I realized there was way more game after the initial section. It gets very tense and forces you to think creatively, good job!

Great job! There's a nugget of a full-scale game here I think. The concept of climbing with your dog has some serious story-driven game potential. Thinking 'The Flame in the Flood'.

I think most of the faults of the game are really just born from the time constraints you faced. I did like the eventuality of my emotional and physical strain, but I didn't feel like any of the choices were ambiguous. The 'correct' path was always clear. I think with a little more balancing this game could be very very sticky, like 'Slay the Spire'.

There's obviously artistic talent on the team so I'd really love to see more of the main character, and dog. Animating characters in such a short amount of time is difficult though, so I gave 5 stars to the art that IS present.

I really hope you keep developing this game. I'm a fan of what you've done so far!

Thanks for trying the game. I’ve never thought about how ambiguity can make things interesting, definitely something I need to explore more. This is actually really starting to look like a game to develop further, and I’ll be updating here on itch and over on tiktok when we start looking for playtesters for it. It’s a bit of time there, but I’m starting to feel like it’s going to get there. I’ve been looking for a game to turn into a full first commercial release, and this is really starting to show some potential (i think the traction it has gotten is a lot thanks to Ro’s art, they did an amazing job with it) so it’s very likely that we keep going with it. Again, thank you for taking the time to play it!

Great game! The art is so good it makes me forget that its only two colors. I absolutely love the music, and the gameplay is unique and enjoyable.
I dunno about the Defold engine, but it seems cool. Thank you for introducing it to me.
Amazing work.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a ton for trying it! Defold is the best dev experience I’ve had (after pico8 but that’s so cozy it’s unbeatable). It’s kind of like the leanness of love2d + the export options of unity but everything just works. Highly recommend.

This is a very well made  game, congrats to you and your team! I feel it got a little too easy by the end where i just got a deck full of "cost nothing" cards and with emotional being so necessary, I just pretty much ignored the cards with an emotional cost.

Developer

You are actually intended to get rid of cards that cost emotional. I wanted it to feel like an actual sacrifice when the cards were turned “dark”. But it would feel a bit like ripping the control away from the player to just remove them from the deck, that’s why we have them cost emotional instead. That way you will slowly erase the memories yourself, and that hits way harder. For the last stretch (black and white zone if you will) you are intended to pick up those cards, and just move to the top. It was probably not a great decision, since like you said it messes with the feeling of difficulty. So definitely something we’ll look over for a later version of the game.

I LOVE IT! The way you use gameplay to give the player the message is awesome! the style and the "Story" is lovely. Also it's super polish!

Developer

Thank you! A lot of time was spend thinking about how everything would make sense on the context of the story we wanted to tell, so happy to hear it worked well!

Super fun and easy to play! The UI was super satisfying. It's interesting to see a game which actually factors in the emotional toll of making a journey alone over a long distance.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for trying it! We actually sat at the beginning of the jam and went “what the fook do we even do with this theme?”. I mean starting with everything and ending with nothing sounds horrible for progression. I have been making games for a while now, and it’s a dream to do it full time. And it’s actually getting kinda close to that. But to actually get here I have sacrificed a lot, time that could have been spent with friends, feeling burnt out, pushing myself too hard. We realized a bit into the development that this game really is about what you have to give up to reach a dream. I was sitting with the team in a call and we just went “we’re making a horrible game”. So the story in this is definitely very personal, and I think you captured it very well as “the emotional toll of making a journey alone over a long distance”.

A really well put together card-based game that is easy to pick up, but requires careful strategizing as the game progresses. Great graphics, music, and gameplay, and its interpretation of the theme makes this a really good entry to this game jam. Overall, just a great game.
