Cool game, I love the aesthetic of the world, It looks like some 80s game and that just makes it better. Really nice

This is a really cool game, gives me some nostalgic vibes of playing board games with friends. Its really impressive how much content you were able to add in such a short time span. One thing I wish you could've added was more animations which would've made it a lot more clear what was happening. I also wished the map overlay was more high res because it looked a bit out of place. Other than that the game was a really nice experience, nice job!

First game of this type that I play in a game jam so far, very nice :D I liked how open world it felt even for such a small scope and time frame. The idea of ever-changing waters and possibility to have an effect on it all was also very cool. If you're not playing D&D or a Dungeon Master yet, you should consider it! I feel like it could be your vibe! Nice job on creating everything but sound from scratch too:)

Wow! Very creative idea for a game! Simple and clear control. I like it)

Pretty interesting concept!

UI isn't very good

but game is good

This was quite fun! I liked going around the seas and finding different cities to dock at and discover. The upgrades definitely were a nice touch, as it made each voyage feel like progress gets made, no matter how small. I think the art and music is pretty good, too.

The idea of ship battles is cool, but I didn't invest a ton into firepower (not many cannons), so the ship fighting felt a bit shallow; maybe that could have its own "battle phase" as opposed to the traveling style of gameplay here. I also ran into a strange bug where enemy ships could chase me on land, which was interesting; not game breaking, but it was funny.

I enjoyed this game a lot, and would love to see another iteration of the game! Maybe you could trade goods with other cities, or the map is even larger and you have multiple travel options. Well done!

Interesting concept.

pretty addictive game which is impressive for a game that was made in just a week, with more polishing and maybe adding a few more features it can turn into a great game!
two small bugs i found that aren't that bad but i feel like i should let you know so you can improve your game:

1. clicking on a button which was upgraded (marked in green) takes gold (not a big deal)
2. when pirates chase you and there's a land nearby they get on it with their ship which doesnt make sense (again not a big deal)

Nice roguelite turn-based pirate simulator (saying it like it's an established niche :D)

EDIT: really wanna stress out that it's a rogueliTe, and not out of snobism - I was exploring the middle of nowhere with no hp left thinking "what could the game possibly expect from me in that situation", but then you die, and you have you gold, and you can enhance your ship to explore further - yeah now that makes sense.

The game is pretty chill yet addictive, but the improve UI, visual feedback, and tutorial can greatly improve it as it take me sometime to start to understand the basic of the game. I think if I can click far away and it auto path to that area would be nice as well. Pirate ship hp bar would be nice as well.

This is the most innovative game I've played so far.  Combining ship exploration with rouge-lite is a very interesting idea. The music is also really cool. I think that the weakest site of this game is its clarity and the feeling of confusion. For the first few minutes, I didn't exactly know what I was supposed to do. The progressions is a bit too slow to me. Also, it would be nice to be able to click somewhere farther than one tile from my ship. But besides that, the game is really cool and keeps you playing.

Developer

Thank you! We are so glad that our core concept gets such positive feedback from everyone. we are already working on the clarity of the actions and what to do in a post jam update. As for the progression, it may be too slow for a game jam, but balancing all stats in the short amount of time we had was though. So I am still happy with what we got.

As for the moving multiple hexes, don't even get me started. I spend almost a day trying to implement an A* pathfinding algorithm. You see the result: I couldn't make it work in the limited time :) But we all agree that it would have been a good thing to have.

That was surprisingly addictive. I kept playing for 10 minutes straight! And it was a lot of fun! I realy enjoyed playing it AND i seriously thing here lies some untaped potential. It is a nice combination of a rougelike a ship-simulator. I like the concept very much! 5/5 innovation!

Developer

Thank you. That was exactly what we were going for. And asf ro the untapped potential: We still had a lot of idesa we couldn't implement for the jam. And we are currently planning if and what and when we should do an updated extended version of the game.

Very nice concept but a lot of stuff was a bit unclear during gameplay, what were the barrels for? How far away do I need to be from the whirlpools to not take damage? What is the benefit of engaging in a cannon battle? Does the enemy ship have 10 or 500 health left? Most of this could be easily explained through sound or visually and I think the game would have benefited from that. Other than that, this was great, upgrades both for your ship and for individual islands was really cool :)

Developer

Thank for the comment. I totally agree, that some things need to be communicated better to the player. With more time we probably would have. But we wrote your comments into our todo list for the post jam update, we are already working on.

Cool idea, had fun playing and was interesting.

Amazing game, I played this for a loong time to beat it :)

Developer

Thank you. But why did you play for a long time? You can speed run the game in maybe 2 minutes :D (if you made the game and know exactly what to do ;) ).

But we're happy that other players get a longer and still enjoyable  playtime out of it.

Submitted

I think I focused on trying to max out the ship upgrades and the docks and industry on every city, so I tended to try and get gold more than explore for the city. My discovery of the later islands took a longer time for some reason. Maybe a faster gold progression would have made it take less time but still allow me to max out everything. I also was maxed out for a bit but due to the way I navigated around had runs where I died before exploring the map fully

Developer

Yes, the balancing can always use work. I think I'm quite happy with the balancing we got in that short amount of time with limited playtesting, but I agree that it has some shortcomings.

Submitted

Really Fun, i lost track of time playing it:)

Developer

Thanks. We love to hear that

At one point I search through all the map and still not finding the destination, then I realized that some island will never appear until you reach next stage of upgrades (I assume? or you can only discover one new island each run?), which is kinda disappointing.

The sound effect of the blasting and hitting cannon is on point.. chef kisses. Even the combat is static, that alone makes it much more interesting.

Developer

you can discover multiple islands each run. But I agree, that it might be unclear how to at the beginning.

All islands can be unlocked from different taverns. And some of those islands also have additional unlock conditions like “travel 100 hexes“. So you could progress by just playing and upgrading the ship.

But I understand now that this is not that clear to the player.

I reached Utopena ! The game was really good. The exploration is smooth and fun, and I loved the fact that sailing near the coast is less expensive in resources. The islands shifting every time was great as well

Good
