the idea is cool and all but...

good job xd

I love the idea that I can't understand exactly what my "master" says, just like dogs don't fully understand human being's language!
and very creative idea, nicely done :)

I like the hand-drawn art and the controls were responsive to keep playing. Also the small animations for all the controls, speech bubbles were nice. Maybe it's just me but this felt like watching an episode from Black Mirror or Love Death and Robots. Nice work for making something with that vibe.

Feel free to hop into my game as well and share your thoughts and ratings if you have the time!

i LOVE the art style, its so freaky looking but super charming. One of the few games in the jam thats not a reversal on a game trope but rather a thing in real life.

Surprisingly fun as well, walking the human around (if just by seeing all the crazy visuals), and VERY engaging with how the dogs talked to each other and just getting immersed in this strange world.

It would be a shame not to continue this in some way, it would be amazing to see this world and these freaky characters expanded on

Fun gag game. Art and music was perfect, I only didn't like that you made the treat so difficult to eat.

Thank you all for so many amazing comments <3

Mildly disturbing, but the overall vibe and follow through was great.

Amazing concept (almost creepy but cool), loved the realization here <3 Very good job guys!

The best interpretation of the theme I found until now! Love the dogs language, and the end is definitively a thing (and that's sad :C )

(I found you in the infinite thread in Discord, so maybe it works?)

Submitted(+2)

That was umm... an experience for sure. The skeletal animation is almost creepy. Amazing work on this. Was not expecting to play a game like this during this jam.

This is the best game I've seen during this jam (out of the 16 I played)
I'm so glad I found this game.

I loved the sounds, the music, and, obviously, the pigeons! If the artist would redraw my avatar in your style, I'd use it in a heartbeat! (seriously)

Ok, enough with the praises, time for some feedback:

I liked the commands, it feels like an honest representation of so many hand-holdy games. I didn't catch onto the repetitiveness of the first commands, and I was glad they repeated at first - I could get a chance of remembering them.
I would like to see controls sooner because using the combination of WS and arrow keys was not obvious at all.
I liked the conversations of dogs between each other. I expected to see some interactions with other humans (butt sniffing and similar activities). The ending hit me out of the blue, I really expected to see credits or get rewarded for waiting for a long time, but was left for an infinity instead. This sings true with how dogs perceive time, so I can't be mad at this.

A narrative thread would improve an extended version of this game, but I'm still glad I played this game.

Developer(+2)

thank you so much! Haha the pigeons were best spent 30 mins of my life. Regarding the avatar, we'll see what we can do :)

The inputs are for sure something to reconsider for a post-jam version. I noticed a lot of people are having trouble with the arrow keys

Developer(+2)

Thank you! Here's your personalized pigeon

Submitted(+1)

Saved it! Then you a lot!!!!

It's impossible to express how excited I am!

Submitted(+2)

Well, this was a weird one. I think I liked it though :)

One of the most unique takes on the theme I have seen so far. The aha! moment when I realized what my owner was asking me to do felt pretty good.

It got a bit repetitive, so I almost didn’t see it through to the end (I thought it might not have an end) but I’m glad I did. A few more types of commands/interactions would probably have helped with that, but you only had 48 hours so fair enough. I’m impressed you got so much in already!

Developer

Thanks! Actually we were also thinking about just reducing the amount of times you have to repeat each trick. Do you think that would help?

Submitted(+1)

It would! I think I just reached a certain point where I had done them all so many times that I thought that the game might repeat them all indefinitely and I just had to stop when I felt like stopping.

Developer

oh, yeah I can see how it can feel that way. Thanks for the feedback, it helps a lot

The feeling of being someones 'pet', and average human-dog relations were captured perfectly trough gameplay, I really love this game. But the artstyle, especially character design, also deserves high praise.

I restarted it twice, hoping that eating chips will fix itself, but it didnt. Something must have happend to my head hitbox, cos eating demanded loads of pixel perfect acrobatics.

Also after some time my owner gave me an order I didnt understand (tried twerking, walking upwards, walking downwards - nothing worked, so I've quit the game. But I intend to come back, maybe some issues will get fixed after review period finishes..?

Many thanks for creating this posthumanist masterpiece!

Developer (1 edit)

yes we plan to polish out some things, and I tested out the game on a group of friends - did you notice that you can also move your upper body with arrow keys? Because I noticed some players think W/S and arrows are alternatives but actually they move different parts of the body and you need to lower your head with arrows to eat chips.

Thanks for the kind words!

Submitted(+3)

this is a masterpiece! it deserves a place in art museums! is the ending that i just being abandoned?

Developer(+1)

yes, that is the ending - we left it "open" on purpose, to have you question what happened, similar to how a dog must feel when it is abanoned. Confused and terrified

Submitted(+1)

Absolutely love the artstyle!

Really nice idea and art style!
Unfortunately, I got stuck as I couldn't eat the crisp that the dog dropped at the beginning :(

Developer

oh no, what do you mean? Did you try moving your head closer to the ground?

Submitted

Yes, but the crisp wouldn't highlight :(

Developer

oh no, I don't think this has happened before, I'll need to debug later

Submitted

Same for me, and it happened each time I restarted: once the chip drops fully to the ground, it becomes impossible for me to get it to highlight. Only if I'm fast enough to eat it when it's still a little higher above the ground can I do it, so something seems to go wrong once they're fully dropped.
