I got around 20k points, that was really cool !
I was really surprised by the automatic swap when you kill an enemy but it's working well ! (Even if I think it makes the game a bit harder when there are more than 1 enemy)
I was glad to see the enemies getting the swap (but I was also very depressed when I was back at the first row in the 3 rows part ahah)
Nonetheless, it was a great time !

Developer(+2)

Glad you liked it!

A super polished, great looking and hyper well-made game!

The idea seems simple at first as you just switch between dodging and shooting. But then the game says "oh no", adds the extra zone, and reveals how it is so much more!

Your eyes start suddenly darting up and down the screen dodging and shooting and all while deciding whether to kill whatever is above of you for some health, or risk it to move down again. And it is the fact that enemies can also grab powerups that makes this such an interesting decision.

I also love how moving down-screen adds a huge load of dynamic difficulty, as you are closer to destroying you enemy but have far less time to react to their projectiles. At every turn the thing you need to do to progress causes another problem for you to try to survive.

Top marks from me!

Developer(+1)

thank you so much for your comment! how cool that you took so much time to analyze it and write your impressions, it makes us very happy and helps us a lot to improve!

What was your score?

Submitted(+3)

26600, though I'd really like to see if there's anything else further on

Submitted (1 edit) (+2)

Love the concept of positionning yourself behind ennemies just like in a real jet battle!

The ship designs are funky, I don't know if i encoutered all of the enemies since i didn't get very far, but I especially like the big crab looking guy that has a twin shot :D

Too bad there is no enemy (that i know of) that attacks you from the top of the screen, they become pretty much harmlessif they don't catch one of the position swapping powerups, I was expecting to see some of them lay mines or something ^^

Oh and some sort of indicator of when the player can dodge again would be a massive QOL improvement, as well as a way to clear bullets maybe ? (I don't know how bullet-hell-ish you want to make it though so it might be fine without it).

Love the concept, I can definetly see a very fun game in there, keep up the good work!

Developer(+1)

We're thrilled that you enjoyed the game so much! We have plans for improvements in the Post-Jam version, such as adding a notification for when you can use the dodge again and incorporating new mechanics with enemy ships, as you suggested. So we appreciate your feedback as we're eager to enhance the game.

Lastly, as for your question, what score did you reach?

Submitted(+1)

I got a highscore of 55200! maybe that's not quite enough to get to some sort of other area or encounter new ennemies , regardless I had fun

(controller support would also be huuuge :D)

Submitted(+2)

Really interesting concept and good presentation! Fun take on a classic space shooter-esque game, only thing I'd really like to see is more feedback on the dodge. Good work!

Developer(+2)

Thank you very much for dedicating your time to playing our game! We are currently working on the Post-Jam version where we are fixing things like the feedback to know when you can use the dodge again.

Submitted(+3)

Really fun game! Nicely polished as well. And my cat loved the shooting sound :D 5 stars from him!

Developer(+2)

If a cat gives us its approval, it means we have succeeded!

Submitted(+4)

Wow, cool! Love this style. Great execution, and I think the take on reversing roles continuously is brilliant. Great art, solid controls.

I wish there was a little more room to move around, but other than that, it feels great and this is an excellent jam submission.

Well done!

Developer(+2)

thank you so much for playing!!! we are so glad you enjoyed it! we put a lot of love into it :)

Submitted(+4)

Really enjoyed that! Really creative thinking from the game designers, Love the art work, I would say with the Sfx it could have more fitting shooting sounds, the sounds for me personally were a bit too gentle for this style of game. Incredible game although Rated highly!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for the feedback. We will take it into account for next updates :)

(+3)

Very fresh mechanics in this shoot 'em up game, truly surprised.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for trying our game! What mechanics would you like to see in the future? And what score did you reach? :D

(+1)

i really love how you can use the retroreactor item but the enemy can to, is like that enemy that heal his self in your face and you look at him like... how dare you?

my best score is 4300

Phenomenal visuals, music and SFX. Much more than you'd expect to see done in a 48 hour game jam. The polish is amazing! Great game, in spite of the difficulty curve being sort of harsh. Clever mechanic; outmaneuvering your enemy and constantly competing for the position of the attacker! Well done!

Detailed Review

=========================

[ + + + - - ] :: ENJOYMENT

It was a fun little game. I like the mobile format; it fits very well for the type of game you made. Easily could see this being on the free-to-play portion of the app store. I didn't feel like I could progress very far. I tried 3 times to get past the second level. The gameplay was a bit samey, as well.

Edit: Giving 3 stars instead of 2. I give 2 stars for games with partial gameplay. Yours is a fully functional and enjoyable game. I don't know what sort of sleep-deprived I was when I made this review XD

[ + + + + -] :: CREATIVITY

I like that you went for a different approach to 'roles reversed'. You're constantly battling for the role of the attacker. The idea was clever, and original, but didn't strike me as unique.

Edit: I was bordering on 3 or 4 stars when I wrote the review at first. After careful consideration, I think this sort of diversion from the norm is exactly what we need in creators. 4 stars, baby!

[ + + + + + ]  ::  PRESENTATION

The music was too faint compared to the sound effects. For awhile I didn't even know that there was music. That said, you did a good job with your visual effects.

Edit: oh my god! I was playing in the middle of the night with broken headphones. I want to apologize for giving such an awful review for presentation when you clearly did a phenomenal job. Hell, just for the animated logo at the beginning you're getting an extra star for a total of 5 stars baby!!! Great job with both the visuals and audio! Please forgive me, for I have sinned t_t

Developer(+2)

Thank you for taking the time to review our game. We are glad that you found it fun and creative. We appreciate your feedback on the difficulty level and graphics. We are sorry that the progressive difficulty wasn’t enough to hold your attention. We will take your feedback into consideration as we continue to develop the game. Thank you!! :)

Submitted(+2)

Thanks for having a forward-moving attitude! I really think it could turn into something good; or be a stepping stone towards something better. Good luck!

Developer(+1)

You’re welcome! I hope it turns out well with all the feedback that come to us. Good luck

Submitted (1 edit) (+2)

Oh my god I wrote you a terrible review! I was up late trying to crank out reviews, but this morning I came back to it and realized several issues! Not the least of which was that I was using a broken headset with partial audio. It sounds AMAZING on my speakers! I gave you like an extra 4 stars altogether! Great work. My edits are listed in the original post. Thanks!

Developer(+2)

Thank you for taking the time to update your review . We’re glad to hear that the issue was with the headset and not with our work. We appreciate your honesty and we’re happy to know that you’re enjoying our work . Thank you for your support!

Submitted(+3)

It has awesome visuals, exciting gameplay and great soundeffects! I liked that when there were 3 rows you could be the hunter and the pray at the same time!

However the highscore system seems to be bugged because I got around 63000 points on my first try, but when I played again I only got half as many points but that score still became my new highscore. Still a great game though!

Developer(+1)

The score is not a bug! it is rather a mistake of term. At the end it should say "Socre" and not "HighScore", because the number corresponds to your last score. If you go to the menu, your real high score is displayed. We have already fixed it for the post jam version :)

Submitted(+1)

Sadly for me the score in the main menu is also wrong, so i think it still might be a bug

Developer(+2)

oh no! ok, we'll check it out. Thanks for the notice!

Submitted(+3)

It genuinely surprised me on every progression! When 3rd row got introduced I was blown away both figuratively and literally lol. The art, music and polish is top notch as well! I wish I could change the screen size or resolution tho. but it is one of the best game that I've played this game jam. Great work!

Developer(+2)

Thank you very much for your kind words! We really enjoyed making the game and we are very happy that its enjoyable and surprising :)

Regarding the screen size, the way we programmed it was vital to keep the 10:16 aspect ratio and we didn't really know how to do in Unity that the window could scale freely without losing the aspect ratio :( but we'll look into it for the post jam version <3

(+3)

Great little game from the Jam. I really like the art style chosen for this one! High score: 49240

Developer(+1)

We appreciate your kind words and we like that you liked the game

Submitted (1 edit) (+3)

Wow this is crazy good!  Great classic arcade feel, & it gets pretty tough to match.  I really like the implicit strategy of avoiding shooting a ship in front of you for a chance to get to the back row.  My high score is 38140

Developer

The grace of this idea is to play also strategically to be able to have some time of pause to be able to not be the hunted all the time.

I invite you to keep trying to improve your score. It is quite entertaining to try to improve it little by little.

Submitted(+3)

Very cool idea! I could see this being an interesting dynamic for a multiplayer game. Things got real hectic when the 3rd level was introduced. My one suggestion would be to turn down the rate of fire from the enemies in exchange for a couple different types of AI from the ship. For example: one type could home in on the player while would would sporadically change direction. Great work.

Developer

That's another point of view in which we could steer the game. Thanks a lot for the feedback, we will take it into account for next updates.

Submitted(+3)

Great art style! Fun game! Having some indication of when your dodge is ready (unless I completely missed it) would be helpful though.

Developer(+2)

thank you! yes, we thought about adding it but we were on a tight schedule. we plan to add it when the jam is over, along with other improvements that we are already preparing. By the way, if it helps, the cooldown time between dodges is 3 seconds :)

by the way, what score did you get?

Submitted(+1)

I think I got around 45000, though that was my second try after dying much earlier on my first try xD

Submitted(+5)

This game is really fun! , I can find myself sinking some time into it. I love the classic retro design.

Developer(+2)

Thanks m8 glad you've enjoyed it! Feel free to share your best score

Submitted (1 edit) (+3)

Oh man, I love it! Really unique take on the theme. Its super addicting, you really crafted a unique classic arcade experience. The idea here is brilliant. Graphics are top notch for the genre, they really give off that old console feeling. Tight scope, extremely polished, absolutely wonderful delivery.

Amazing job. This is one of my favorites.

Developer(+1)

man I'm gonna cry, thank you, we loved your game too <3

we are glad you enjoyed our game so much

how much did you score?

Submitted(+1)

No problem at all. This is a super strong entry.

I was only able to just barely eclipse 30,000, but that was after many tries lol. The level 2 with the 3 lanes is no joke. Does it expand further after that?

Developer (1 edit) (+2)

Nope, It is already coded but not currently implemented,  there will be a mayor update in the future, stay tuned 😉

Submitted(+3)

Super nostalgic graphics! Good stuff.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing the game! We hope you enjoyed the concept. What score did you reach?

Submitted(+3)

Original idea. Pretty well executed. It's polished and challenging. Great job.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for trying the game! I'm curious to know how many points you scored?

Submitted(+4)

Nice art, music and super fun mechanic! The harder it got the more I liked it! Por cierto, me alegra encontrarme con otros desarrolladores españoles! :D

Developer(+1)

nos alegramos mucho de que lo hayas disfrutado!!!! :D que guay ver más gente de la zona haciendo cositas 👌😎
