Interesting concept and nice art. I'm having a lot of fun playing your game. There's a slight balancing issue with some guns being too powerful, but overall, it's very well done.

Developer

In the web version the grenade launcher shoots 1 gun instead of 3 (in the downloadable version), imagine how it would be :D.

Thanks for the review.

Nice game and I love the gorilla boss. One nitpick is that you cannot press W and A together to move diagonally.

This is a much better game than it looks! I loved the idea of dying, and controlling just another zombie. It really gives you the feeling of "roles reversed". Nice work!

Developer

Yeah thanks. Literally roles reversed :)

Really fun concept, I like that you were able to introduce a boss in such limited time too.

I think it could benefit from diagonal movement and maybe some initial tutorials as I got confused when I switched to a zombie with no gun, but after a while I got used to it and it was pretty fun! Love that you guys had "drops" to help provide buffs and such.

Great job guys!

Nice take on a classic top-down shooter! Good job!

Very interesting!

I really like your creative interpretation of the theme (although I admit I did not read the description of the game and got very confused when I changed into the zombie controller xD).

Presentation was very good. Art and Sound design fit together well. I appreciated the variety of weapons too.

For improvements, there's the diagonal movement that others have mentioned. I'd also recommend adding a Zombie SFX or bigger flashing icon pointing to the zombie when you change between Gorilla/zombie mode (just to make it crystal clear).

Overall, very strong submission. Well done!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for the feedback, I will make the reverse icon much bigger so will you surely see it :)
I will also add a tutorial so that you don't have to read the description

I enjoyed it! Well Done!

Turning into the zombie is a cool twist, I only wish I could move diagonal - Nice work overall though!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, as a lot of people are pointing this out, I will surely add this feature in the next update.

I was a bit confused at the beginning with the game switching between the two. I wasn't really sure how to kill the hero when I knew id have to switch back. Once I got the hang of it though it was a lot of fun, but I will say it was more fun being the hero lol. it'd be cool if instead of controlling the zombie you controlled where they spawned and how many there were to try and overwhelm him. great job overall!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, when brainstorming I had this idea but I thought that it would be too easy to kill the player (just put some zombies next to the player and some shooters far away).

Submitted(+1)

Couldn't make it to the gorilla boss unfortunately. But the game is awesome. It needs a tutorial scene in the game but other than that, it is pretty enjoyable!

Developer

Thanks for the review. You are right, I will add a tutorial in the next update to make it easier to understand.

Managed to kill the gorilla boss

This is really impressive for being done with no engine!

I think the game concept is very good; it has lots of opportunities for push-and-pull with the hero's weapons being potentially used against you.  Unfortunately, there isn't much of a penalty for dying as a zombie so there wasn't much strategy at play with weapon selection.

I feel like the jam's theme hurt the game somewhat, as playing the hero felt great!  The zombies not as much.  I'm curious if the role swap would have felt better if you could play as the boss.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for the review. Finally someone who defeated the boss.

The zombies don't give big penalities because many people don't know bow to defeat the player and keep dying as a zombie (therefore the score would be almost 0, but obviously there are players who can do it). I tried to add the role swap to the boss but it's newarly impossible to lose, you could destroy the player in like a few shots. I will think about it and maybe add this in a next update.

Ah, I see.  Looking forward to your update after the jam!

I like the game, it's a bit complicated in the beginning and I forgot what I read in the instructions, but it's entertaining. I think the music and graphics could be better but it's good.

Was pretty fun at first as the player.

My feedback would be to work on the player controls. It felt a bit laggy and unresponsive.

Could give me feedback on my game?

Developer

"Was pretty fun at first as the player."

How did you feel the gameplay during the zombie mode? Was it easy or frustrating? Did you figure out how to kill the player?

Thanks for your feedback, I will try your game too.

As the zombie, the player seemed to powerful to me. I came close to killing them using the guns but I wasn't able to in the end.

I like the concept a lot, but the execution didn't quite click for me. This went from small things like not moving when pressing both W and D (I think diagonal movement makes sense for a game like this, but even if you don't do that, just pick one direction instead of stopping me completely) to more major things like not having three hands during zombie mode (WASD, arrow keys and mouse). I also didn't quite catch it when I went back to regular mode and got slaughtered by a shooting zombie before I figured out what had happened. The art  is great, though, and fits the game like a glove!

Developer

Thanks for the review. During zombie mode you don't need a mouse so you can simply use your hand on the arrow keys instead.

What do you mean by stopping you completely?

Submitted(+1)

Ah, I thought you could shoot if you had a zombie with a gun and you would need the mouse for that. I'd still prefer not to change my hands that much between the modes. Maybe clicking to take control of a zombie or scrolling through the different zombies could make for a good alternative control scheme

By stopping completely I mean that if you press and hold both A and S (for example), your character doesn't move.

Developer

The scroll idea is a good one, I will add it in the next version after the jam

Great art!!! You have a good idea, great execution. Love it.

Submitted(+1)

really fun game idea. enjoyed the music and art

Submitted(+1)

I love the idea that you are constantly switching characters

Submitted(+1)

The player ai dominates my completely in zombie mode

Submitted(+1)

I like this game's take on the theme, the constant changeing team was a bit confusing at first, and i think the zombies are a bit weaker than the player's but Great game overall <3

Very nice game over-all and nicely polished. It works exactly as it should, and fits the theme nicely
