Lowkey the best PFS in the jam, its a 2nd Person Shooter, what else can I say?
Excellent work indeed!

A very fun concept! The art is great as well! If I have one gripe with it though, it’s that it’s hard to control, and not because it’s in second person. I think there are three things that contribute to that.

The first problem is that it’s very hard to tell where you’re aiming, because you could be up to 22.5° off in either direction, and still get the “face-on” sprite. Ideally you’d only get the “face-on” sprite if you’re no more than a few degrees off.

The second problem is that enemies often look past you. You disappear from their view entirely a bit too easily. Increasing the FOV could help with this, though it could be more straight-forward to alter the movement of enemies, depending on how it’s been implemented.

The third problem (though I guess this might be more of a nitpick) are the tank controls. They make the game feel sluggish, which is not normally what you want from a shooter game.

Those are just suggestions though. I think the game is pretty good as it is, and certainly for being made in just two days.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. I do agree about the movement, it would have been good to have more time to tweak all that stuff. After the jam I might try a few ideas to see if its possible to get the concept to a more playable shooter experience.

Really liked it! Very epic and creative. Controls, I feel, should be a little faster when I turn to shoot!

Neat game! Cool concept and execution, I like the simple rendering, you've probably got the best FPS of the whole jam! Could have used some more sound effects and music, and perhaps some indication of where the shooter is when off camera (especially in the second level, second shot I don't know which way to go.) Overall, cool!

Probably the most unique idea I've stumbled across in this jam. Keep pursuing it! The actual play experience was kind of tough, but I could see with a bit of polish this being a very interesting game. Good work though, I imagine this was a tough game to code.

Developer

Well, probably not as tough as playing it! Thanks for the comments!

I really like the art style! It has a very "imscared" meets old-school photo low-res look. Combined with the white-noise-like gunfire, the whole thing has a kind of a gritty edge to it.

I downloaded the EXE because the web version kept crashing (massive respect for that 1 MB file size btw!!) and, uh...

It seems like the FPS is unlocked, is running thousands of frames per second, and is using up to 70% of my GPU. It doesn't seem to run fast or anything, so I guess DeltaTime() is working properly. It's not a huge deal, since it's only a five-minute game, but definitely something to keep in mind for the future!

Otherwise, good job!

Thanks for the feedback! I will check that out, its developed on Linux and on that the fps is locked, but probably something is missing in Windows version. That's pretty funny though as I was worried the fps would be too low!

Took a bit to understand that the enemy was the camera, kept trying to shoot the enemy coming from the side and dying from the one in front me. After I understood it changed the game for me, was really enjoyable getting through the level after that. Level 2 froze for me. Would've been even better with some music :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! We wanted to put a pair of hands in the view so it was clearer you were looking through the eyes of an enemy but we ran out of time, such is life!

really cool original  idea! also respect for not using a game engine 🫡

Cool idea. Tough to get a grasp of your positioning, but still cool. Good job.

"2nd person shooter"

This part picked my interest in the title and that's an interesting idea! Lots of games have you control the opponent but I didn't think about controlling the player and seeing through your enemies' eyes!

Nice flip on the theme! Great work! 😁

Really good idea, kinda unplayable but the concept is neat what did you code it in ?

Developer

Yeah we maybe should've put some more work into playability! It's coded in c++ and uses SDL and OpenGL, we used Emscripten on Linux to build the WebGL version.

Really interesting idea, however it is incredibly difficult to actually play, as the camera never seems to be looking in a particularly useful direction

Developer(+1)

Thanks, I made a last minute tweak to the path-finding which made the enemies more stupid but at least a bit more active. Before that you could easily get stuck in one that was standing still and staring into a corner. That probably still happens though...

Submitted

Neat idea and execution! The controls are wild to wrap my head around, sounds like a tricky concept to do.

Developer(+1)

Thanks, in retrospect there may be ways to make it play easier, but in 48 hours we just had to commit, there was no time to think!

Very interesting.

Developer

Thanks, glad you found it interesting.

it would be better to control if it has typical fps control
but man, this is SPS! I've always dreamed of SPS
thanks for making my dream come true :)

Developer(+1)

Hey thanks, really great that you like it. The question is - has your dream actually turned out to be more of a nightmare!?

Submitted

lol nah I like it very much! nicely done :)

Submitted

Great concept idea, a little bit hard controls due to camera. Anyway, well done!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!

Really cool idea but difficult to play.

Developer

Thanks! If you play it for many hours it might get easier ;-) Or possibly not!

Submitted

I liked the concept but the camera and controls were confusing

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, we were also frequently confused!

Submitted

I really like the concept! I had a bit of difficulty playing, as the controls were very difficult to control for me. Sometimes the camera would not follow the player around (at least how I would want it to) very often. I also kept getting stuck on walls because I was unsure which direction I was facing at times. The art and audio are great additions, and the theme is displayed pretty well here.

Developer

Thanks, yeah the control is kind of hard and it is overall pretty janky, I agree! Actually we were really laughing about what a terrible game we'd made, but it's kind of entertaining, I think!
