Clean and fun! Love the idea of feeding a kid and going through all the hoops. Having the snap turn and movement switched was a bit wonky. It would have made it a ton easier if the turn and movement were on the opposite controls. Overall a great submission with the only flaw being the movement/turn controls. I really am a big fan of your audio. How you did the effect for the control tower voice was solid. I desire to know how this is done. Thanks for a great entry!

Developer(+1)

Yep, I'm a dope for the controls!

Thanks so much for the compliment, I tried to make the audio work and was pleased with how it turned out. I'm happy to share how I did it, after all you helped me optimize my Quest build with your tutorials lol. I used Audacity's EQ Curve effect with the preset "telephone" then messed with it a bit after that. Just spliced up a static sound for the radio starting/stopping and that was it!

I appreciate the feedback and that you tried my game!

Thanks for letting me know! I'll have to play around with it for whatever jam I do next.

Definitely one of the more unique concepts that I can surprisingly relate to this year as I have a 11month old who I am struggling to feed lol. As others have mentioned the backwards controls I wont mention them again, but that was really my only major gripe with the game. A very quirky and interesting take on special delivery, I could even see other levels where you have different foods and different delivery methods like a space shuttle spoon or a car spoon and you have to do different movements/checkpoints to deliver the food to the baby. Even maybe mommy sitting at the table watching and commenting as you fail to deliver the food properly to the baby. (That may be traumatizing for some dads though... lol)

Developer

lol congrats on your baby, I definitely learned my lesson on the controls xD. Thanks for playing!

I really disliked the reversed controls. Speaking even from using a regular controller generally left thumbstick controls movement and right thumbstick controls vision, and in a VR game you control your actual view so generally it's right stick controls rotation. The concept was really great and imaginative. I'm not sure about the scale on this one because I felt like a giant. I don't think I should have been able to see over the fridge. I had to do a lot of bending over to reach things which would push me away from places I was supposed to reach. The shooting stuff was pretty fun and funny. Again the concept was really great and I haven't seen anything like it. Sound effects were alright but kind of loud and some didn't loop perfectly so it made the audio a little grating. I also found that if you keep feeding the baby over and over at the end it plays a ton of stacked up audio. Also after the "dream sequence" ends switching to smooth rotation is a terrible idea. Definitely got a little motion sick from it. I had a very hard time completing some of the flying stuff and I was also annoyed when I walked across the room for it to then trigger another flying thing which started back where I was so there may some timing issues there. Maybe the scale issue was because I started off seated. I feel like that might be the case for another game I played as well but maybe not. There was some tiny moments of jank but nothing game breaking like accidentally grabbing the lid instead of the bottle and when I was pouring coffee it was kind of flipping out.

Developer

Hey thanks for playing!

First off, yes you somehow messed up your scale lol, you were definitely not supposed to see over the fridge. As for the "reversed controls" that's been addressed and I just didn't realize there was a standard, so it's something I will change after the jam is over.

There was a volume setting if things were too loud for you, but I guess you're saying specifically the sound effects were loud compared to the voice acting? The plane definitely didn't loop correctly which is weird because the actual clip is a perfect loop, but I wasn't able to fix that in time.

Switching to smooth motion after you wake up was not an idea, it was an issue in the template that I had to fix for the main scene, but didn't catch as the epilogue is a separate scene so I'll put that on my list to fix as well, but of course it's meant to have carried over whatever preference you selected up front.

As for the flying sequence stuff, it's plotted so that you'll always be at the beginning of the next "ring course" so I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding you there or something else was happening.

Thanks again for playing and for your feedback!

Submitted(+1)

As for the flying sequence stuff I don't know why but it wasn't triggering quickly enough or something so I would end up walking across the room and then it would set up the sequence and tell me about it and I was like oh I should have known at this point lol it's only happened like 3 other times so that's partially on me, but it definitely didn't seem to be happening right away.

Developer

Hmm, that is strange! Were you on PCVR or Quest? I'll look into it regardless because that's definitely not the experience I was trying to give the player!

Submitted

PCVR, the specific instance was after I microwaved the food and I took it out of the microwave I turned around and walked across the kitchen, I was like mission accomplished and then it was like, do the flight path! I was already by the baby and completely turned around and I was like oh man now I have to walk back over there, but I should have known.

Developer

ohh okay I gotcha, I think the issue there was that there's a slight delay between events, which I chose to do for pacing, but perhaps it was too long, especially when someone like you knows what to do next so you go for it. Good feedback, thank you!!

Lovely game, and very original idea :)

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it :D

Submitted(+1)

Great job! Hilarious concept and game, and that you made a game out of the old baby-feeding trick. I love the voice acting. It worked great on PC - Valve Index. Congrats on finishing this for the jam!

Developer

Thank you so much! The voice acting was me xD (and my wife for the "epilogue"). I wish I could try your game out but I sadly don't have a quest ;-; based on the reviews it seems like an awesome submission so congrats to you! Thanks for the feedback and for playing my game :)

A really fun experience and very different from many others in the jam. There were some bugs on the collisions and interaction, but it didn't hurt the experience much. Loved the game. i'ts concept and presentation, great job.

Developer

Thank you! I think that's a general consensus about the collision bugs, something I will definition be mindful of in future :D

Submitted(+1)

Would like to play this with Teleport...

Developer

I intentionally made this without teleport and added vignette and slowed the movement speed to ease for people who make feel motion sick. For this game the experience was meant to be through smooth locomotion. If that's not for you, I totally understand :)

Submitted(+1)

Great concept, really like this idea. I had to try a few times to get the collision to work when disposing the food from the spoon but it worked in the end! Great job :)

Developer

Thank you for the feedback and for playing! Did you play the PCVR or Quest version?

Submitted(+1)

Nice idea, and the concept is really unique.

I first trying this on the Quest from the original apk, but it had serious framerate issues and was almost unplayable. I saw the optimised version and gave it another go, and I'm glad I did :)

Fun idea and visuals, however I did find the controls quite clunky. I think adding tutorial prompts or something (especially at the start) would've helped - but, I know, it's quite a tight deadline and all that - so it's understandable if things like that aren't there.

It would've been nice to have a option to swap over the turn & movement controls to the opposite hands, most things I've played are generally the other way around, so it was just a slight annoyance.

Still, really enjoyed it - great achievement :)

Developer

I don't own a Quest so that's why the first apk was so bad. I just built it and said "HOPE THIS WORKS!" and it didn't lol so I optimized and rolled the dice again. Glad the second version worked better!

I think a small chart at the title screen showing the controls is a totally doable idea, and it wasn't about the deadline! I just didn't think I needed it, and I think you're right and I should have considered it more.

Yes, *facepalm* I learned a lot about the "typical" controls for VR. I'm left handed so I didn't really think about it and it had been a long time since I played another VR title. Noted!

Question for you, Ian: were you able to complete the game? Others playing the Quest version said they weren't able to advance past the first checkpoint...

Submitted

I'm left handed too :) But I think I've been 'rightified' after playing many VR games over the years... turn tends to be on the right, and movement on the left. Not that it's a problem with your game as such, it's just slightly awkward while playing that my automatic response doesn't kick in...

As for the quest, completely understandable if you can't test it on the hardware then you simply wouldn't know - the optimised version work much better though. I got to the microwave bit on the quest, but I couldn't press the button on it to start it. Not sure if that's a quest thing or not...

Developer

Okay, that's good news, so that means it's not something borked up with the build. for the microwave you just need to make sure you went through all the rings, the jar of food is in, the door is closed and the tooltip saying to turn it on is showing (oh, and you can't have anything else in the microwave :D ) then you just press the button.

A couple other people were saying on the quest they weren't able to get past the trash part, so hearing it worked for you makes me think maybe it was conditions not met, or perhaps finnicky colliders. Thanks again for the feedback!

Unironically the most unique experience I've had in VR so far, this was really fun to play

If I had to nitpick anything it would be the movement mix up, as others already mentioned.

And also the collisions - I think simply removing it from the chairs (and keeping it on the table) should make the experience smoother - but aside from that, it was really fun!

Developer

Thank you so much! Yeah the idea of just removing it from the chairs is totally solid. After playtesting it 100 times I got used to where to go xD

I really appreciate that you tried my game and especially for the feedback!

Submitted

I finished the game. Favorite part the army soldiers. Was a little strange with right movement and left rotation for me. Great job.

Developer

Yeah that's the second time I head about the movement. I had no idea, being left handed. That's a big learning moment for me, thank you for the feedback and for playing my game!

This is sooo cheeesy lmao

You did an amazing job at bring your idea to life and I had fun even if it was simple.

Some small things I’ve noticed:

  • self collision with some objects! Only noticed it once, so not a huge issue with your game.
  • turning off colliders with the table (and maybe some other stuff) is a good idea, makes you feel less restricted and bumb less into stuff.
  • are you left handed? Surprised to see a VR game where you move with your right hand and rotate with left
Developer

Hey thanks for playing and for the feedback!

-I did  want to address the self collision but only realized it too late and wanted to focus on other stuff first. If you're moving and hit yourself in the face with a coffee cup or something you go flying, which I didn't fix XD.

- I didn't want the player to go through the furniture, so that was intentional, but I could make certain colliders smaller so it's less obvious.

-I AM left handed, but tried to make the game for right handed people, which is why I put the plane in the right hand (I naturally wanted it in my left, and asked a couple right handed people about it and they agreed). HOWEVER I didn't even realize/think about moving with right hand vs. left handed being a handedness thing. Now that it's on my radar I would make that configurable.

Thanks again for playing!

Submitted(+1)

I’m not sure if it’s a handedness thing, but most games I’ve played have movement on right and rotation on the left. I have never checked out the other options in those games so I don’t know how they usually solve that. Something to pay more attention to for me as well.

Such a great idea,  that's something you really can call a "special delivery"^^

Not sure what was wrong with the original one, but just played the optimized version. The first time i started the game scene, just saw a black screen (but also opened credits before), second time started it directly and it worked.

I just reach the point when i pass the 6th or 7th ring and am in front of the bin. Seems to stuck there, I reached it with food, without food, put the food into the bin and "into" the baby. But not sure, maybe I just do not understand what to do.

But until that point it's a really cool concept and implementation. Also like, that you even thought about presenting the outside.

Developer(+1)

I think it's just an issue with quest that I can't test or fix without owning a quest myself unfortunately  :(

If anyone can play the PC version  it's highly recommended to get the full game as it evolves nicely I think.

Still, thank you for the feedback and for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed a small portion of it at least! xD

Developer

I've added a (hopefully) optimized version for the Quest platform. Again, I do not have a Quest so I cannot test it. :)

Submitted(+1)

Great concept, and really funny!

Had some issues with vibrating graphics on the quest, also had an issue throwing the food away (seemed to reappear on the table). Wanted to keep playing!

Developer(+1)

Hey! The food is meant to respawn before the tooltip shows up so that you can't break the sequence of events by throwing it away too early. If you wait until after that it should work, but it could be a quest bug (though the other quest player didn't mention that).

I'm thinking the graphics issue on Quest is poor optimization which I wasn't able to test due to not having a Quest. Sorry about that!

Thank you for playing and for the feedback!

Developer

OH! You also need to go through the rings to advance to the next area. If you don't go through the final ring, the trash won't accept the jar of food!

Submitted

That was really cute! I like the mixing of the theme of "here comes the airplane!" with a more rounded out narrative!

Great execution!

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the game :D

Submitted(+1)

The idea behind this game is so nostalgic and genius! Everything worked well, and the graphics looked pretty good. The APK did have a very low frame rate (around 8 FPS), but it's really hard to fix that without a Quest to playtest it on.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and for letting me know about the .apk! I feel it's against the rules to try and update the .apk after turning down some settings so I'll just leave it for the voting period and then update it after.  I appreciate the feedback :D

Developer (1 edit)

You are dad. Your baby needs his breakfast, but he's a little picky. Solve the puzzles, and get your little dude fed and happy.

This is a lighthearted comedic short story with minor puzzle elements.

---

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to try my game! This is my first game made for VR. I had a lot of fun with the concept and execution.

NOTE: RECOMMENDED TO PLAY ON PCVR!!! I don't have Quest so I am unable to playtest the .apk file. If it doesn't work or is buggy, sorry that's just the way it goes I guess :)
