This is a very cool idea with nice graphics!

As other said, it's a bid sad that you can "cheat" by mashing your keyboard, and that the game is insanely hard and punitive if you don't!

With a bit more balance this can be a very good game, great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! Yeah well I guess I could've fixed the mashing thing, but then it would've became insanely hard considering the current difficulty haha. Also I could've added maybe 3 lives instead of insta-killing you when you get hit, that would've made up for the difficulty. Gonna work on all that stuff once the jam ends

So here's the thing. I love the music, I like the idea. But I hate it and am deeply frustrated, that the game punishes me that hard for missing just one single white hit and I have to start all over.

Developer

haha yea that's the thing, the wave is basically an enemy attack so either you block it or you die :)
Even so it's true that I should've balanced the difficulty better

Submitted

Not easy but still fun. Can get pretty overwhelming at times.

Developer

Thanks! Yeah I couldn't really balance the difficulty that well lol

Man, I must have failed like 20+ times before realizing all I need to do to survive was hit the spacebar at the right time and I could completely ignore the red and blue notes.  I've read what some folks have said and I'd have to agree Vertical note movement would of been easier to pay attention to.  Nice game once you realize how to play but man, why not have the keys for red and blue be next to each other? very awkward finger placement.

PS. is there a way to restart the game besides just relaunching it?

Developer

Yeah I guess the finger placement is very awkward after all. The gameplay mechanic is taken from Muse Dash which also uses horizontal scrolling and the same keys. I preferred to go with that rather than a 4 keys DDR-style gameplay, but didn't consider the finger placement as I probably was just used to it

Also no haha I didn't think of putting a menu button at the end this time. I just though it wouldn't be that useful but I guess I'll start putting menu buttons again in new games lol

Submitted

Fun, but difficult! I do really like the concept, it's just tough to pay attention to both parts at once. As others said, repositioning the ui might make this easier

Developer

Yeah the thing is I thought of the wave beat as an input that you just press by hearing the beat constantly so you wouldn't really have to see it to know when to press, but I guess it was just easy for me haha

Submitted

Very hard to play, my fingers were not made for this. But for guitar hero fans, this is perfect

Developer

Haha thanks! As I already said, it indeed is not easy lol

I think think the blue and red were way to difficult to pay attention to and it would have been more enjoyable if red and blue were vertical and then left right would make more sense for my hands. I ended up just spamming f and j and only watching for space, but that being said I liked the music and rhythm alot! great job!

Developer(+1)

Yeah well the red and blue circles are taken from Muse Dash, and I preferred to use them rather than a 4 keys DDR-style gameplay. But I can understand it could feel a bit awkward when compared to the finger placement, thanks for the feedback!

Submitted

oh sorry i didnt mean arrow keys. F and J are fine with the colors. I meant if it was vertical rather than horizontal then i know right side is J my right hand and left is F my left hand and i could have all my attention at the bottom of the screen rather than the bottom and the left

All this game jam so far has taught me is that I suck at rhythm games lmao. Really good music! Overall a very fun experience, good job!!

Developer

Haha thanks! Yeah as a decently good rhythm gamer I must say I couldn't balance the difficulty that well by myself lol

Submitted

This is way to hard for me, the same exact mechanics but with vertical movement instead of horizontal as well as moving the wave bar closer to the other two so its always in view would make this a lot easier without even changing the gameplay, just UI/UX is very akward.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! The gameplay mechanics are inspired by Muse Dash with the addition of the beat wave from Rhythm Doctor. For the field of view I thought it would be fine like that as the wave always comes with the same rhythm so that part of the gameplay is more about hearing rather than seeing. But yeah I think I got a bit too overboard with the difficulty haha, should have let someone test it.

Game is hard but quite fun to play. Good job!

Developer

Thanks! Yeah I got a bit too far with the difficulty lol

Quiet a challenging game - i like the graphics!

Thanks a lot!
