Very very fun! Nothing to due with the game or the design just it's less managed I feel.

This game has a very unique and amazing atmosphere! Loved the dark setting, the guitar guy and the campfire. Also really liked the graphics !

I could find at best what I believe is half of the necessary sticks before dying either from the fire fading, or the monster killing me. I got so scared by the noise the first time haha!

Really good job and good entry!

The procedural generation is a bit rough, especially with how few sticks are around and how you can't really cross the water. The game was a lil dark lighting wise but I think that added to the horror whenever I first saw random particles of enemy in the forest. The aesthetic was adorable, and I love the guitar dude at the fire!

My first few attempts spawned me in an area with no sticks around that couldn't even get to anywhere that might have some? Eventually I was able to play a longer loop but tbh I think this needed a ton more juice to pull me in, personally. Still a great accomplishment for a jam!

Perfect game. Atmosphere, difficulty, visuals, audio, story. I played for at least 40 minutes.
Gj and keep it up! ^^

Ah! I'm spooked! Really cool to see a scary game with some procedural generation in it. Quite hard to build that raft though! While quite polished feeling it was missing some of that juice  factor. Very well made though, congrats!

It's interesting, It's something like horror, but it isn't scary. Ilike it.

The sound design is really awesome and sets the spooky ambiance, normally I don’t really like horror games, but this one is different, it was challenging and my fire kept dieing, but the game kept me playing a couple of times. I like how the monsters growled a little to warn the player, overall, great game !

Thank you! I'm glad you had fun with out little game. We're very proud of the ambiance and sound design so I'm happy those are aspects you enjoyed!

That's very moody ! You managed to pull of a procedural level generation system that produces believable forests and islands, that is pretty impressive !

The survival mechanic is cool, but the balance, combined to the lack of feedback on important information make it a bit frustrating to play. You have to  protect a fire with no visual indication of its state, the enemies kill you instantly but are barely visible, and once you hear them, you've already lost. I think that with feedback on those two things you can make it really fun to play.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! The fire actually has 4 different sprite stages it goes through and casts a slowly shrinking orange sphere around itself that intersects with the terrain to show its health. As per feedback I have made that line larger, and made the monsters slightly more visible when not active! I'll be uploading these changes after the game jam voting period ends

Hi !
First of all, I liked the game. It has a great atmosphere and I like the art style, despite the grain effect being too strong imho. The color contrast between the fire zone and the forest is great, and the music transition helps a lot.
The main issue, that made me lose after trying 5 or 6 times, is that the game is really unfair. Touching the water kills you, being a bit too close to a monster kills you, and you have a try from the very beginning each time. A simple health system, or just respawn at the fire, would be, I think, fairly easy to do and make the game way more enjoyable. Also the monsters do not seem to be dodgable ?

One last detail, I believe you did not normalize the direction vector, which allow the player to move faster when going diagonally :p

Good job and congrats for making a game !

Thanks! We're so glad you enjoyed the atmosphere. Thank you for the feedback! I've been reading it all and making tweaks this morning, the water has been made slightly more forgiving, it should be easier to avoid the monsters and I normalized the vector (can't believe I forgot that lol). I might look into adding an optional health system in the future but I'll have to talk to my colleagues about that first. Thank you again for the feedback, It's all very helpful to keep growing!

I'm glad if it helps! I'll play an enhanced version with pleasure :)
