Great job! I thought the pacing was perfect, with the visuals and text having exactly the right amount of detail. All the elements felt harmonious, and it made the overall experience remarkably cohesive.

One technical note: When I tried to fullscreen the game, it stayed at the same resolution with a large black border to the right and bottom of the game window. I switched back to windowed mode, but because of the resolution the itch.io info bars overlapped the top right of the game window. They actually covered up the heart in the top right of the speech bubble stage. Took me a while to notice, but eventually I figured it out.

Developer

thank you so much <3
i tried it out and i see what you mean about the buttons blocking the game window. good find! im glad u figured it out regardless

An incredible game! The core mechanic is a simple one used to great effect which I always like to see! My favourite aspect has to be the way the text is displayed throughout

Developer

thank you so much! my goal this jam was to make a simple mechanic that could help tell a story and not be too difficult.  and im glad you like the text effect! it's definitely influenced by all the little comics ive drawn. thank you for playing!

This is a beautiful and well crafted game! like visually stunning!
I did feel that it was a little vague and  not obvious what you are supposed to be doing, (but that may be intentional?) so found myself struggling a lot, and it took me a few go's to get anywhere.  But the little friends all bopping about was cute :)

Developer(+1)

thank you!! im glad you like it! there was meant to be a bit of figuring it out but not a big struggle, hopefully it wasn't too difficult! i added a bit more help to the description so hopefully it's not as hard for others in the future

I really loved this. There’s something about the sort of bleak background art and the warm and hopeful music that just feels cathartic. It’s beautifully drawn and scored. Some of the levels felt like a bit of a struggle to navigate - but the fact that having more little friends made it so much easier is just chef’s kiss.

The palette too looks fantastic.

Developer

wow thank you so so much! your words are too kind, thank you for taking the time to play and comment!

This is gorgeous, I love the art! The gameplay felt really nice, too, especially the little dots bouncing after my cursor. The game mechanics and the story also just tie together so nicely. I really enjoyed playing this!

Developer

thank you so much! i tried to craft the gameplay/mechanics as a kind of experiential metaphor for the story, glad to see it had an impact!

Wow, I really enjoyed this! Everything was coming together really well: art, music, story and gameplay :)

It's always impressive to me when jam games feel so 'complete'. Great job!

Developer

wow thank you! i was a bit worried that some of the elements were too disconnected but im glad to hear it worked out!!

This is so wholesome and wonderful. I love the art and the game mechanic of collecting little friends to follow around each other. Overall It is an expressive and relatable experience, you did such a great job.

Developer

im so glad you like it! "expressive and relatable" was exactly what i was going for, glad to hear it hit the mark!

Awww this was so heartwarming!! This had a full narrative arc that was really just a joy to play through.  The art is fantastic, and the music and sounds definitely enhanced the experience. The credits page was great as well, with the messages you reveal. This is really just a fantastic game jam game all around. Enjoyed the sorta squeaking sound of the characters especially, and the way the messages showed up over time, building the story in a way where I wasn't sure what would happen next.

I did find it slightly tricky to get used to the controls at first, since I first thought it was just point and click and didn't make the connection to the little creature I was controlling. Then it took me a while to figure out I had to hold and press to interact with/move some things.  For a while I thought I was just stuck in the cage 😅 (though that maybe was the intention? To feel hopeless at first?).

Great job!

Developer

thank you so much for your kind words!! i really wasnt sure how it would be received but reading this makes me feel like it was absolutely worthwhile <3

great feedback! i added a bit more in depth notes about the controls to the description so hopefully its easier to figure out for others in the future. hopefully you weren't stuck in the cage for too too long, but maybe doing so added to the experience of your playthrough aha

It's well made. congrats! beautiful messages!

your game and and the other submission https://patricemp.itch.io/pieces made me think hard about "Does strength really come from the heart?"

Developer

thank you for playing and your kind words!! i think perhaps a certain kind of strength comes from the heart, and in keeping with the theme, it's certainly a lot easier to have that kind of strength when you have others to support you

Really cool to see this developed with all the extra levels and art after playing your prototype early on!

I love the speech bubble stage :) Really great work!!

Developer(+2)

thanks for playing (this and the prototype)! it was amusing to have the temporary assets in for so long, knowing how it'd look in the end. the speech bubble stage is my favourite as well, glad to see it resonated with you!
