Super solid game especially for your 2nd game ever. Made it to Day 7 and it seems like there's definitely some huge improvements I could make since it sounds like someone made it to 31, but either way very fun. I really liked the detail of the music getting a bit faster every day, definitely helped make a feeling of urgency and rooting for your Whutzit while the clock ticks down.
Love the intro :) Names of items are hilarious. Good game overall.
cool idea but I couldn't get past day 1. I just have a skill issue.

Ok, I was HOOKED. I spent significant time optimizing the daily company quota against whozit upgrades and the upgrades of resting and party areas. Surprisingly, I made it to day 31. Could've kept going but had to go get dinner. Still, I feel there's a huge gap for the "increase the money for the whutzits but increase 1 part to do them" upgrade. It ended up costing 2700 if i'm not mistaken, which was a gap since last price was around 900 or something? Might be wrong as this was on Sunday, but I did feel the gap. Anyways, really really fun game and addictive! I would've loved if we had more upgrades for improving efficiency as I hit the max one too soon I think.
Wow! Thats awesome! Super stoked you made it that far!
also I was heartbroken when I realized I did not get my training scaling into the final build somehow. at the last minute I changed the way the upgrade costs scale so instead of being multiplicative its additive. Im unsure how that was still in... but thats gamejams for ya!
Also the efficiency upgrades max out early because if I set it any lower than a half second the game breaks and I started to get negative integers for parts made hahaha. It was a really silly bug I could only fix by setting a limit on it.
Unfortunately, if the Whozhit becomes any more efficient he loses his mind completely and breaks everything
(Im curious if you figured out how to go into debt or not. Theres a lot for really neat strategies you can pull of that way. Lemme know!)
Actually, yeah! I think on my third playthrough I realized I could go into debt but did it accidentally though! Got nervous since I thought once the day ended, it'd be game over or something, but surprisingly it wasn't! I think that's what made me optimize more, since I prioritized training upgrades while still paying daily quotas! So that's what got me so far.
Also noted on the efficiency upgrade! Didn't know the logic on how the efficiency worked but read an earlier comment of yours on it too so now I'm clear. Thanks :)
As long as you pay by the end of the day, you're clear ;] Debtmaxx away, baby!
I'm really stoked to hear that you had such a great time with it. I was a little worried it would be too complex for some people at first to stick with it. It sounds like people are coming back to play, which makes me feel like I did something right. Thanks so much for coming back and letting me know that!
Made it 9 days! (Though it seems like one was added after losing to bankruptcy.) A lot of charm to this one, mostly with how everything is named, though I feel like the management mechanics could've been better. My biggest problem is that the upgrades aren't as consistently useful as I would've liked; the one that makes the Whozit work faster only seems to affect his movement speed around the room, while the amount of time it takes for the machines to make parts, which was a much more prominent bottleneck, didn't seem to change at all. Having higher energy capacity also doesn't feel very meaningful when it subsequently makes it take a lot longer to refill energy, and that just makes upgrading the water cooler seem like the strictly better option. Not bad, but I wasn't as won over as others seem to be.
There actually is not a training for making your whozhit move any faster.
The efficiency training cuts the production time for making parts by a half second, capping at .5 second for production of parts. It is intentional that his energy depleted faster after upgrading, because he is working faster as a result. Youll need to keep a closer eye on his health and energy or else he'll collapse or jump in the uhoh hole.
Both energy trainings (fitness and workplace) allow your whozhit to raise their maximum energy capacity, which allows them work for longer before needing to rest which is essential for later game working (and preventing death) after you have leveled up the quality training and youre in need of more parts to make whutzits that sell for more money.
These are definitely mechanics that aren't really gonna get shown off except for people that REALLY stick with the game for a few runs, which probably isnt the best idea for a game jam, but my goal was to make a game that people could continually get better at and I think the scaling has been pretty dialed in. I hope that helps clear up any confusions!
My highscore is around 32 days now haha.
Thanks for clarifying; after giving it another try, I think I understand it better now. This time around I got a lot more out of the upgrades, especially the one that increases selling price. I still didn't notice much of a difference in production time after the first speed upgrade, but the second one I felt the difference almost instantly. I managed to make it to 20 days this run before I accidentally overlooked the whozit's energy deficiency (which tells me I could've theoretically kept going). While the early days still feel a little tight for my liking, I appreciate that I don't feel like I hit my skill cap and can't go any higher, which is how I felt when I first played.
The presentation, the gameplay, the artstyle, everything about this game is not only engaging but just really freaking cool! This surely is going to be one of the judges top picks!
Thanks so much! I'm hoping the Whutzhit factory has what it takes to come out swinging on my first jam. Its not a competition, but earning some marks on it would be really cool. I really appreciate you saying that!
I love your game! Love seeing the little guy going around the factory making whutzhit. Would spend some time on this after looking at other games.
Lemme know your high score when you do!
Great game, the idea was cool, and has an epic tutorial
Piko in the Whutzhit factory when?
It could be really cool
Definitely an interesting idea! I'm not much for management games tbh so I don't think I can comment much on what they're supposed to play like or anything but the art and audio were fun and the training video was a good laugh. Nice work!
This was hard xD I lost by day 8. Interesting idea tho! +1 for the orientation video, PTSD from when I worked in a factory was real with that one xD
I'm happy to have triggered your PTSD in a fun and interactive way :]
Really neat! Enjoyed how the tutorial makes the game come off super complex and overbearing, but then turns out the majority of things are automated lol. Think it would've been cool to see you be able to buy more fellas as time progressed, but the idea of one person controlling an entire factory is also neat theming.
Only slight critique is that with how fast past things get, I struggle to ever get time to use many of the upgrades, though that could just be a skill issue lmao. Highscore I got to was day 9 :)
Day 9? sounds like skill issue to me B]
Very confusing at first, though to be fair a storm rolled in while I was watching the tutorial making it lag a bunch. I still had a ton of fun playing and loved the writing. It got a few chuckles out of me.
Yeah, employee onboarding is usually important when starting a new job haha
Glad you had fun with it! what was your highest day reached?
8 days.
This was a bit confusing at first(even with the super cool employee training video), but once I got into the swing of things I had a really good time managing my little whutzhit or whozhit or whatever those little guys are called. If you were to add anything, it would probably just be making each factory-machine different visually (I thought they all did the same thing at first), but other than that, great game! First one that really made me feel like a true manager.
The original idea was to make each station a different color, but it looked really ugly and bad haha! I figured it didn't matter too much because the Whozhit takes care of all the work for you.
I think I definitely wanted things to be a little chaotic and confusing at first, but as you get more familiar with the stations and trainings you become more confident as a manger and provide more profits to the shareholders (and keep your Whozhit alive longer). I really appreciate the feedback!
I really liked the game. I think it had just the right amount of challenge (and humor, I got a couple of giggles when I failed horribly after not understanding the tutorial, lol). But overall, I'd say the game has a solid experience.
Noodl... did your Whozhit jump in the Uhoh hole?
This is exactly the kind of game I LOVE to play. I literally am going to come right back to this after I play all the submissions and just play it a bunch. The music was wonderful, the graphics were clean, it made me really happy to play this! My only qualm would be I wish you could edit the volumes from the game, cause at it stands I had to quit the game multiple times to get the right volume.
yeah, I was gonna add that in... but I guess I forgot, whoops!
Thanks for all the support! Youve been a huge hype-man for me during the jam! It has not gone unnoticed :]
so glad i could hype you up!!!
