How does your game fit either (or both) genres?
It's a GBC metroidvania involving a magical girl :) It's a retro-feeling metroidvania starring a magical girl.
Chosen theme(s) and relevant explanations
The game involves Robots, which are Constructs. I also chose Python and Pearl and made a Python Pearl Creature.
Optional challenges explanations, if applicable
Attempted to do the explosion causing death in the boss battle but wasn't able to do so: it's more of a cutscene in implementation..

Really fun and adorable little game! Loved the art style and the design of the main character, and how the use of red helped interactable things stand out. The music was really nice and cheerful, too! The movement and shooting were a bit on the slow-paced side, but I think it worked out in favor of the game's lighthearted tone.
One thing that bothered me a bit was that sometimes you'd end up standing on a ledge up in the sky and it wouldn't become clear where you were supposed to go until a moving platform kindly showed up a few seconds later. At some point, I started expecting the moving platform to show up, and ended up waiting for a while on a ledge that was indeed just a dead end! Far from a major issue of course, but maybe giving the moving platforms visible SMW-style tracks could help?
The abilities were fairly standard for a Metroidvania, but the dialogue for obtaining them was really fun! In general, I really enjoyed the writing and sense of humor, it was definitely my favorite aspect of the game. The boss battle was very cool, and the little bit of alternative text for no-hitting the first phase was a nice touch!
The ending cutscene was amazing as well. Froggy is indeed the Coolest! Overall, had a lot of fun with this one, great job!
It was a little weird that i had to shrink down the website screen so the game actually fit in, kinda wish this was a downloadable game.
When i go through a screen, random sprites flash for a second somewhere on the screen.
I keep falling into platforms because of what im calling “reverse coyote jump” where i feel like i fall from the platform before the character’s body is fully out of the platform.
Bomb sprite most of the time didn’t show up for me, so i thought something was bugged and i was stuck, until i tried going back and the bomb suddenly exploded.
This is a super cute game, I really enjoyed it! The controls took a bit of getting used to, but I really came to like them - you have to commit to your jumps and movement. I liked how the abilities were distributed too; they came at a nice pace, and each one felt like a real upgrade to the move-set.
I liked the story, too! The familiars were all very cute!
Very Cute! adore the art style, the controls are a bit awkward but it was still a nice experience. I liked the dialogue and text. A fun time!
It's very sweet overall! I just couldn't get past the boss fight, but up to that point it was cute and fun to play c:
Love the art style, story, dialogues and the characters are super cute and easy to talk to :) It’s a very simple, straightforward, and enjoyable game. The only thing I’d love to have is a mini-map so I know where my blind butt is going. Such a great job!! (and great music that matches the game perfectly)
I definitely thought he was dead. Good for him on being explosion-proof. The platformer controls were a little slippery, but the game didn’t ask for tricky platforming so it ended up being fine. I loved the character writing in this one!
I’m glad you were able to complete it! Thank you so much for appreciating the characters <3
I love the whimsical writing and dialogue, fantastic game all around! I hope Coolfrog becomes the lead vocalist
I hope Coolfrog becomes lead vocalist, too!! 🥺
Thank you for playing!
Really enjoyed this one... nice art, and lots of fun little messages dotted around,
I felt like I ended up beating the final boss mostly by cheesing it (finding a spot where I knew it would hurt me but I could hurt it quicker), so I felt like the action was definitely the weaker part of the game. Also at start I found the control a little "icey", but by the end of the game I didn't really notice so much, so maybe just needed to get hang of it. But these are nit picks on a great game.... really fun!
Thank you for the feedback! Honestly that was a valid strategy with the boss haha. Yup! We kinda wanted it to feel like how old GBC games did so we kept that velocity when walking. Thank you again for taking the time to play our game!
nice Gameboy Color platformer! well done!
Thank you for playing the game! I hope you had fun! :)
really cute art, the controls are tight and overall nice little gbc experience.
Thank you for trying out our game!
DON'T BELIEVE THEIR LIES, DO NOT HUG THE CRAB
(super charming, funny game, loved it!)
:D
Thank you for the kind words <3
Very solid game!
The platforming felt tight, and it was great to loop back into a known location after getting the double jump.
Excellent presentation too. Makes me want to try GBStudio one of these days.
Congrats!
Thank you so much!
Yes, GBStudio is nice to use! When you do use it, make sure to bugtest whatever you’ve made on a web build. At least for our version which is just one off from the latest, some stuff like temp variables simply did not work and caused many script issues which we had to fix.
Thank you again for taking the time to play :)
The GBC aesthetic was on-point!
I was able to get all 3 abilities, but got a bit frustrated with the distance between save points and not being able to look ahead too much while platforming, so I didn't make it to the final boss :(
Still, great submission!
Thank you for trying the game :) Sorry about those pain points. I can easily patch in the save points, but as for the level design it would take lots of changes. Thank you still!
