Interesting take! I can for sure see how the original was used to inspire this. I found the gameplay to be a bit repetitive and using the mouse to pan the camera while also having to click on specific things in the environment was a bit of a challenge.
As for UI, the font was displayed improperly, so it the text didn’t look clean and the disappearing buttons had me confused for a long time because i was trying to ged rid of the cleaning icon.
Most stuff had a sound, which was great, however the sound was also a bit grating imo with repetitive music that did not really seem to fit the prison theme. The gates opening in particular was a loud and kinda harsh sound which you couldn’t avoid because the gates just kinda opened when you hovered near them.
All in all i like the idea in theory but i think the execution could use a bit more attention to detail.
very cool to see myself chained alongside royalty! XD
In the beginning I was confused as to how to bring up the menu, but then it felt naturally, as part of the game. Cleaning Benim became a common thing, but the I would scroll all the way to my cell to find me crying for hamburgers!
I was happy to see some of my guys sleeping in, until I opened the files and saw DECEASED... oops!
In the end I had just 2 to juggle, before they gave up as well :(
I couldn;t make the shower and exercise option work, but I liked the rooms you had made there. But when I saw how you could use the mop to clean and the hand to slap, that was really cool to see (brought a smile to my face). Of course after a few days of cleaning I really appreciated all those potty-trained offenders that had fights in parking lots hehe
VIP prison guards staying there without any sleep! Loved the idea of needing to time the sleeping for everyone.
(I saw your responses below that perhaps it became to much, super cool what you have achieved! GDKO can get so hectic at times, I have lost so much sleep and hours hehe)
Thanks so much for finding the experience I had hoped to provide people.
I feel all warm thinking you looked through and got a giggle through the files and even that you tries to care for our fellow competitors and royalty so kindly.
I had hoped to get more but got some of the core working pooping and slapping were non negotiable
I hoped it make the longer intelligent and actively try to use toilet unless depressed or angry but settled for luck of the draw approach, as to an outsider they may be tricked to believe they are smart lol.
Appreciate the time you took to give play and provide this feedback.
Hehe i did indeed get tricked with the toilets!
I am curious if you have time to explain how you imagined showering and training would work (I thought they would walk out of the cells guarded, stay a bit and come back).
Also, at times my cell-people would have this fresh cloud around them, what was that?
that was no fresh cloud it was a green fart cloud warning you that you may need to slap towards the toilet.
The excersize yard and shower I saw as two function. Cleanliness increase from shower and aggression reduction from exercise . The other feature was it was two areas you would bring the convicts together. This gives aggressive convicts a chance based on aggression. To attack the other inmates therefore needing monitoring and a slap to stop a different death possibility.
I was going to have a soap option in shower you can rub over showerers and get bonus cleanliness.
Those were the thoughts and I was going to make it when you click the button you can pick up to 4 again needing balance and monitoring to give the right ones what they need. I was going to teleport them there as my skills didn't feel there for more flashy response and movement.
This is so so cool!!! I never thougth to slap them towards the toilet! I thought i had to slap them when they were close to the gate or later tried to escape or something XD
love the depth you had planned there (I would also teleported them there hehe)
Really appreciate you giving such a nice explanation!
Was the game fun to play?
I enjoyed reading the criminal profiles and a prison is a great setting for the game. While the game feels a little simple at the moment, I think there is potential for more fun things to happen and I noticed more was planned. I think it could be cool if the prisoners sometimes misbehaved and tried to escape when you unlocked the doors to feed them. To lean into the fun, maybe a mini game or 2, something like try to find the contraband in their room and you have a time limit to spot something suspicious. Or a mini game that increases the inmates happiness like a basketball hoop in the yard.
Did the game include the core elements from the original?
Yes. I liked that instead of looking after an animal, you are a warden looking after prisoners. There are also essential needs such as feeding (burgers), hygiene (mopping), and discipline (slapping) and I like that you had the sleeping aspect too.
Was there a clear path of progression?
Yes. I like that the intro gives a clear goal and that he tells you to look after them for 10 days. Unfortunately for me, I think 10 inmates was a bit much for me to look after. I got up to day 5 before everyone was dead in their bed with one inmate dead after I slapped him too much on day 3. I think my ideal setup would have been 2 prisoners to look after and to keep it on a single screen.
How good was the audio and sound FX?
The opening voice adds a lot of personality and polish. The background music was pleasant. The sound effects of my actions were responsive. I’m not sure why the doors opened so much but it sounded good though.
How well implemented was the UI?
The date and how many days completed is very clear in the bottom left corner. The inmate files were easy to open and read. The way the actions become visible by putting the cursor in the lower half of the screen keeps things tidy and I like the hover over effects. Left clicking to do an action felt natural and the same can be said about right clicking to get off them. I like that each prisoner had a name. The animated emoji icons were easy to recognise their needs while also looking good. When it’s light out and the clock appears, it’s good that it visibly shows the passage of time by going around in a circle and I think it would be even better if the hour hand on the clock moved with it.
Thanks its really nice getting such clear and detailed feedback.
i like your take on the theme, prison warden was good idea
Such a strong vision and I really like what you went with!
The game has such great potential if expanded on!
My only issue was how the camera is, it feels a bit too zoomed in and clunky, but it is not a huge issue.
Would be awesome seeing them go around doing stuff, reminds me of the escapist!
Well done, super impressive :D
Ah thanks I am really please people can see my thinking as a bigger picture. I hope one day I can live up to my crazy visions. Or maybe team up with a more capable group and make something awesome 👌
Nice concept!
Unfortunately all mine got tangled up in the sheets and died by day 6.
I couldn't tell what the actions were accomplishing with them, they all had a silly face emoji the whole time.
The art and use of characters from the game jam was pretty funny!
Thanks for playing
Great concept! Great implementation! Cute arts! Fun and engaging game 👌👍 That was an amazing take on a theme and I enjoyed playing it ☺️
I hope you will get through the round and will become a top seed! Well deserved!
thats very kindy thanks for playing .
Thanks for a good game 😉
There's a lot of cool world building here. I think the strongest part of your game is the theme. It makes sense as to what the goal is, and how to accomplish it right away. I think the only thing missing is a bit more clarity on what the actions do. In general they make sense, like clean the poop, feed them, lights out to make the day move on. However, it's not clear what benefit the actions give. A bit more emojis to indicate their mood, or some more details in the prisoner notes would have made this game perfect. I also think that there's a bug to track the lose condition.
All that being said, I love the theme and style. I'd love to see this as a full game with managing the gang ties and making sure they don't shank each other in the shower and stuff. I can already imagine many more directions that this game can go!
Thanks the vision was strong 💪 and I am glad you could see it. Sadly my ability and skill only got me so far.
Loved the little poops that had to be cleaned up. Great take on the game, like taking care of 8 Tomogotchis at the same time. Well done!
Thankyou
An interesting take on the theme! Managing multiple inmates at once is a great way to iterate on the tamagotchi gameplay loop. I also really liked the intro cinematic!
Cheers mate
