It's pretty impressive that you managed to make a functional fixed camera survival horror for a game jam. The graphics and atmosphere have to be the best part. The concept of "Resident Evil with impostor creatures" is pretty damn good, I honestly find being surrounded by people you can't trust much scarier than being completely alone.

The game's biggest weakness has to be the difficulty. While survival horrors are supposed to be hard in order not to turn into an action game, here you end up having to memorize where each imposter was, which takes away from the horror factor. A simple limited sprint would have easily solved the problem by giving the player an escape option.

Developer

Thanks for the review! I kinda agree with you, at start i planned to make the impostor mechanic much more organic and random but building levels with the cameras was really time consuming. So i had to make a quick prototype with fixed enemies to have something playable before the deadline. I'm glad you liked the concept btw!

Well, I like the idea, graphics and the atmosphere, but the gameplay is too harcore for me. Why the character can't run? I feel like the shotgun on the wall could be more useful than the little gun. Normaly, that kind of pistol has more than 3 bullets to shoot (maybe 6?), here if you miss one fire, it's game over... I also like the fact that you can aim with right mouse and the psx aesthetic.

Developer

Thanks for the review, yeah i planned to add the shotgun as the main weapon but i ran out of time so i had to quickly design everything around the pistol and it was hard to find the balance between too easy / too hard... I know that it feels hard and frustrating that the player is slow and hard to control, but that's part of what make this type of game stressful. Should be more comfortable with a slow run and a checkpoint system.

I agree

The graphics are really cool! I really wanted to play it, and loved the controls at first, but it started to feel broken after a while. I wasn't able to complete the game, sadly.

Developer

Thanks for testing out! Can you tell me what happened to make you feel that the game is broken?

Cool game! I like the art, the idea is cool. I have some point that I less liked. The art is cool, the UI is a little bit amateurish compared to it. For the gameplay, I like tank control, but the character takes way too long to recharge, and that's a shame during fights. The concept is super cool, but I don't know if it works like this, the camera angles don't let us analyse the NPC too much, and the rooms are maybe a little too small to have a good fight. If it was one bullet, one kill, it would be more stressful I think. Good job nonetheless!

It seems like we had a lot of the same inspirations for this jam! I love it

The aesthetic is great, and it really does feel like a lost old gem

It gets pretty tough when you have multiple enemies on you, but I guess that's also part of the challenge

Very impressive jam project for a single dev!

Developer(+1)

Indeed! Your game looks really impressive by the way, i'm gonna check it out

Love the fixed camera-angles!  Feels like it was actually using pre-rendered backgrounds, don't know if that's actually the case or not.

It feels a little hard to get away when you have multiple of the replacers chasing you.

Hey thanks! Nope it's not pre-rendered backgrounds, i think it's the camera shader that adds a lot to that feeling.

Loved the unique locked directional camera perspective, fits that retro inspired aesthetic very well. Underrated.

This one needs more exposure. pretty impressive looking and runs quite well on browser!

This actually the first game I've ever played with tank controls (if these are tank controls?) I played the web build and found the text a little hard to read, but I enjoyed the rest of the visuals a lot.

Barely understood what was going on but it was cool either way! 😅
Unfortunately I can't rate your game, but keep doing whatever it is you're doing!

Alright I came back 😎 it worked for me this time! fun game. Im dumb and tried to kill the people to fill that counter up at first haha then I re-read that nurses dialogue and realized. anyways good submission!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! It was the point to create some confusion :)

Love the aesthetic and the old school RE play style. I did have a bit of trouble reading some of the text though.

Developer

Thanks! Yep i tried to keep the texts as a little bit blurry to fits the retro style of the game but it's not perfect for visibility...

Well by the thumbnails the game look great aesthetically! I tried all versions of the game and it wouldn't go any further than the main menu unfortunately. Hopefully others can get it to work! good luck in the jam!

Developer(+1)
