I spent about five minutes playing and here are a few observations:

The combat could use a bit more variety. Right now it feels very button-mashy, and it doesn’t seem to matter much which attack I use. The responsiveness also feels a little off, and it’s easy to get stun-locked or overwhelmed when several enemies attack at once.

The music mix might need some tweaking too, the high frequencies (maybe the hi-hat) were sharp enough that I had to turn the volume down.

It was also hard to tell how much health I or the enemies had, which made deaths feel sudden and confusing. Adding clearer visual indicators would really help.

That said, this is a good foundation. The idea works, it just needs some extra development time and polish to make the combat feel satisfying and impactful.

Thank you for the response.

Air attacks do more damage than ground ones, and you can shoot while jumping or sprinting while you're in the middle of a slash; the gun is also very helpful in interrupting and juggling enemies at range However, as it is, the game throws you straight in without any actual tutorial (or additional description on the page itself) as a guide.

Graphics / art style is cool!  The music is very noisy.
I was attacking the enemies but was having a hard time killing them. 😂
I wasn't sure if I was supposed to try to go somewhere, or just stay in place and fight.

There were a few extra keys to memorize,  I mostly just stuck to the basics (move & attack)

Web version worked well, but no fullscreen?

Thank you for the response.

Having crammed for the other parts of the project, I didn't manage to implement any viewport handling pre-submission.

Pumping music and fast action, clearly a rave house.  I died pretty quickly and got stuck between some enemies.  It was an exciting experience but I didn't last long.  The black and white colors provided a suitable scary vibe.

Here's my submission to this jam..

Great gameplay and spritework!

Unique entry for the jam in term of genre.

Didn't expect to see a hack & slash type of game, and I like it! Love the art style and the music.
It gave me strong 2000s action anime vibes — like, I don’t know, Soul Eater or Trinity Blood, maybe even DMC, haha.
With a bit more polish, I’m sure you could make a really solid hack & slash platformer!
It’s really hard at first — super easy to get stun-locked by enemies — but once you get used to it, it feels fast-paced and fun, and I liked that a lot.
My best time was 130s :P

In my best run, I lasted 65s with 26 kills. I really liked the art style. It felt like I was inside a manga book. I also was really impressed with the layout of your page. The size of the game was perfectly fit into the web page to make it feel even more like a page in a book. The music had a nice intensity to it too.

I could not figure out what the special power attached to 'Q' did. While it was fun fighting bad guys, this would have made a killer platformer.

You have a really nice art style and great basis for a Metroidvania game. I really encourage you to pursue making this game into something than just survival.

Very well executed combat, good job! Also love the cover art, it reminds me of something but I just cannot put my finger on it. :) Feel free to share your inspiration for it!

(...and if you can spare 2 or 3 minutes, I would be so happy if you could review my little game as well)

Thank you for the response.

The banner art was completely improvised, though its primary influence derives from how the cover art in DMC titles usually has a character silhouette near the title. For the title itself, I noticed that applying the Tile effect in words looked cool and decided to tweak it a bit.

Great work. The game gives me a vibe similar to Devil May Cry but in 2D, and I think many others would agree with that.

The controls are great, and it feels really satisfying to cut through all those monsters. However, the game is unfortunately quite unbalanced and difficult, at least for me. The spawn rate is way too high, and ranged enemies can stall me almost forever because of how their attacks are set up. When combined with the high spawn rate, it becomes overwhelming.

Another point is that the music was a bit too loud for me.

The art style is wonderful, and I would really love to see this game not as a survival game but as a 2D side-scrolling hack and slash, beat ’em up, level-based game.

Great work.

Thank you for the response.

Player hitstun is definitely strict the way it is currently; eventually intend to add in slightly more leniency with a brief I-frame window upon exitting hitstun along with some counters against projectiles during the hasten special ability.

It's like DMC but with a grunge art-style that is so loud and abrasive, I dig the ability of juggling enemies in the air with you gun. I think the enemy spawn rate could need some tuning though, sometimes I would get spammed by projectile attacks from all sides and get stunlocked in the process. Overall, it's a solid hack n slash!

Wait... this game is actually so awesome.

I absolutely love the mechanical feel of this game. Every input feels quick and responsive. Attacking and dashing around makes you feel so cool! In particular, I really like the aerial attack and the little bounce the character does, it just feels so satasfying.

The art is also well done. The player character is wonderfully animated and is crazy fun to control. As well, I love the monochrome aesthetic, it makes the world feel drab and post-apocalyptic.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience playing your game!

Thank you for making it :)

Oh man, I didn’t realize how much I needed a good demon-slasher! This game is awesome!

The art and animations are simple, yet very eye catching, the music hits all the right notes, and the controls feel great (aside from that annoying stun after getting hit).

And man - taking down those demons just feels so satisfying!

I struggled to get to grips with this and survive for to long

here's a play through of me trying my best!

Tried a few things, hope this video helps you in some way.

There were a handful of oversights that resulted in the enemies being very ruthless; the Skelegunners can continue firing even when hitstunned, will aim once again on the actual gunshot, and the Guillotaurs have zero delay in-between striking, which can be brutal when they're clumped together. You can narrowly break out of stunlocking by dashing or getting a crouching strike in (crouch attacks have the shortest amount of frames), but it can still be very chaotic when paired with the gunner enemies. (The Guillotaurs were thrown into the game in an hour's worth of time shortly before submission ended)

Even in this clip I get hit pretty bad at some points

The art and animations is really good for the game you made. Nice!

Slick graphics and very cool mechanics for a jam game, the music was also fittingly wild for this kind of game, worked for the vibe totally.

A cool concept for a game! I liked your mechanics but I didn't understand what the game was about and how it fits the theme (or maybe I am missing something?). It is a really nice prototype that you can expand upon in future, well done!

Thank you for the response.

There was a lot I had in mind for some more thematic-fitting UI, but admittedly I ended up rushing the entire project due to working on another jam at the same time that this one was ongoing.

For the TV theme, it was intended to be as if you were watching a security cam of the ongoing room, and for the Trick-or-Treat mechanic (which I didn't actually write out anywhere else until just now), the helpful feature of time slowing can turn against you; enemies have a chance to spawn in quicksilvered and hasten instead of slowing down.
