Game Description
Lead your sheep faction to victory and convert rival queens across the pastures.

How does your game tie into the theme?
Well, my game started with the idea of being a wolf among sheep, with the wolf wearing a sheep mask. As the project progressed, I found it more fun to side with the sheep. In the end, they're masked sheep, in the sense that each mask is a "role" in the sheep's courtship.

Great work as always! Amazing aesthetics and with just the right amount of juice in the GUI. Satisfyingly addictive to the point of me wishing that there were more levels to enjoy!

Developer

Thank you for your review bus ride, nice to see you participating on the jam again. I will review your game soon!

I had a hard time with this. I saw some of the other comments so I cheesed my way through by collecting coins and clicking psycho when it was available. But my colorblindness made it so I couldn't differentiate between my flock and the others. It's best practice to not rely only on color to distinguish game play elements, but different shape or texture as well. What I could experience was well done though. Good job.

Hi Tough kitty, you have a really good point, it's a shame that I didn't pay attention to that. I will definitely have this in mind for my next projects.

Thank you for taking your time to leave a review 🙏

The polish on this game is incredible! A beautiful art style and really satisfying collisions, sounds, and UI to go with it. At first I thought success felt a little random but quickly realized an aggressive strategy is much more effective than a defensive one. Honestly could've kept playing for a while if there were more and bigger levels, definitely has a lot of potential as a unique style of tower defense game.

Short and sweet, visuals are top notch and your high bar for quality shines through as always.

Really enjoyable game, i only wish it was a little longer.

Me and my team's first reaction to this game was "Holy peak look how beautiful the art is", then we tried the game and were amazed at how polished the game is.

The gameplay is simple but fun, although I do think that the Psycho is a little too powerful. On my third or fourth run, I tried going all Psycho and easily won.

Sorry for not shutting up about the art, but the art is beautiful. The choice of art style, along with the color palette, gives me cozy, chill autumn vibes. Peak value control too.

Overall, nice game and beautiful art style. Keep up the good work.

I was really excited to try this after seeing your progress in Discord - and I loved it! The UI and art design are stellar, and I'm a fan of the animations too. It was a little short (I was left wanting more) but the levels that were there were so fun. I could easily see this as a longer game with more progression, sheep types, and upgrades. Extremely fun and well done!

Submitted

Nice short game. I didn't really see/feel the difference between the masks, until I did some "only [x] mask" runs. Gradually introducing them would have helped with that. But it's a gamejam. Overall really good job.

Short but fun game. Funnily enough, the game is somewhat playable on mobile since it works using only mouse clicks. The later levels lag a lot, but the first few were possible to complete just by tapping around the screen to collect coins and tapping the cards to spawn sheep.

Love the art. The soft gradients and the simple shapes really give it a calming feel. And the bouncy animation look really good.

The balance is a little off with the fastest and cheesiest way to win is to only spawn Psycho Masks.

The music contributes well to the atmosphere along with the baaing sheep. The bubble pop sounds good and didn't get repetitive surprisingly.

UI looks nice, but the text size could probably be bigger.

The coin collecting feels good and spawning the sheep feels good. The gameplay does get a little slow if I avoid using Psycho Masks. I like the variety of sheep types and how they interact. I can imagine the gameplay expanding by adding more mask types as the player progresses through the levels.

Overall a nice chill game that just needs a bit more balancing and more levels. Awesome job!

I love the art style! This gameplay is fun, and the art and music work together really well. This game feels impressively polished, well done!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words, CloakedCrow!

This was so good! The art is AMAZING, I love the style so much! The game felt really polished, and it was fun to play. Only thing I'd say is the Psycho sheep are definitely a bit OP, I could win every round just spawning them in. But the controls, atmosphere, and just the feel of the game was great! Awesome work :)

Developer

Thank you so much, Turtle, I agree with you, the psyco mask is a lot stronger that the others, its an issue with balancing that I couldnt fix in time!

Visuals and presentation are immaculate, I thought I was playing a Steam demo someone spent months/years on...

Gameplay-wise it's innovative, I like the direction you explored, but I felt like I lacked agency - the decision of which sheep to spawn didn't feel very impactful at the start, so I kind of spammed the cheap ones and some defenders and eventually "won" but didn't feel like I did much. Then I played again and only spawned Psycho and won each level super fast lol, so that just felt OP.

I think if the sheep were coming at each other in waves or something, rather than bouncing around randomly, it could feel more strategic where there is a kind of rock-paper-scissors relationship between the different masks...

Anyway, despite all that it still felt really high-quality and fun to play, so I enjoyed it!

Developer

Olá, Nuno Das Neves, do you speak Portuguese by chance?

Your criticisms make perfect sense. The balance between idleness/randomness/player agency was a point I struggled with a lot throughout the jam.

Thank you very much for the review!

Submitted(+1)

Olá! No I don't speak it unfortunately haha... But good to meet you!

When first i saw the menu screen I seriously thought that this game was cheating (like that it was made before the jam started), cuz it just looked THAT good. The presentation of the entire game is steam worthy, straight up. The gameplay is also good and not what i expected at all when i first booted up the game haha.

Developer

Thank you so much for the review, Brynkilius! I'm glad you enjoyed the gameplay and visuals! Please don't worry, there was no cheating; the most that was done pre-jam are some shaders and UI transitions that I reused from other editions of Godot Wild Jam ☺️

Submitted(+1)

Yeah I realized that dont worry, im not accusing you of anything. Just take it as a compliment!

This a a great game. I immediately knew I was going to like it based on the art style and music. Very very well done! 5  stars all around.

Balance wise, the Psycho Mask is OP... :-)

Thank you for creating and sharing!

Thank you, Jake! Yes, the balance is definitely lacking some polishing 😅 I think ghost mask is also not that optimal. On my runs, I used mainly default for fast money, defenders to heal the queen, and lots of psicos to fast convert enemies

Super cute art and very polished! I am very impressed with that. The gameplay felt oddly chaotic and idle at the same time though, but with some tuning and a couple more levels then this could be fantastic! Overall, really solid game and great entry!

Thanks for the kind review, whataboi!

Quite Short, But Very Polished. Good Job!

really simple yet gorgeous  art style  the game alrady feels like a full fledged game

so cool :)

Submitted(+1)

It's a cute and simple cozy game. I love the visuals and everything felt really polished! Could've used more levels tho, since by the time you understood what's happening, it's already over 😆.

Submitted

Super cozy art style, but the gameplay was very confusing.

I don't even know what happened until the second try.

This could be a nice game if you got the gameplay more concrete.

Good work.

Also, please rate our game: Spectral Mask   <3

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the review Azyr! I completely agree with your critique. I had to change the game a lot throughout the week, and the gameplay you played ended up being implemented in the last few days. That's why the "masks" theme ended up being a bit confusing.

Sure, I will review your game soon!

Submitted

reminds me of rock paper scissors game! But more developed. Do sheep wear masks I dont know about?

Developer

Yeah, it was one of the inspirations! Yes, the sheep wear 5 kinds of masks, the crown, the default, the psyco and the ghost one. Each mask beats the others in some way (except for the default one, it is just a fast way to get currency).
