The depth of the map design was truly excellent. It's astonishing that a map of this calibre was created in such a short time. Had the sound effects been a tad more detailed (for instance, having footsteps ascending stairs as distinct as the sound of a door opening), it would have been even better. I look forward to the post-jam version.
Great sounds and lights, I had some strange bugs from the browser version
The game looked nice, and I loved the voice-acted intro at the beginning. The pixel art is really well done, and the way we move into different rooms felt well executed. I do think there are a few too many doors, especially since some of them didn’t seem to have much purpose. Some of the puzzles, while you did provide hints, I probably just didn’t understand. I do think the hints could be a bit clearer; for example, the triangle diagram didn’t mean much to me, and I eventually solved it through trial and error. I also think there is a lot of backtracking. Overall, though, it was a fun experience, and I would love to see this further refined after the jam.
I really enjoyed your pixel art. The normal maps are a really nice touch and I think you can unlock a great artstyle for the game, if you use it accross the board.
Some really nice environmental atmosphere and artwork. The cinematic was a nice touch, and the sound design really added to the spookiness.
This is a great project! Well done! I spent more time on it than I planned! Congratulations on the project!
Love the intro cutscene with the voice acting, and also really like the sound, especially when the ominous woman appears and you hear the whispers...very spooky!
Well done!
Nice game, I give always extra props to anyone who puts the effort in to make a beginning cinematic, let alone voice over for it. I feel the game was bit ambitious for the one week game jam, but aren't we all lol, there is lot of small nitpicks to hone out, but there is also lot of intrigue here too. Firstly, the visuals were nicely executed, I took note of you got the 2D lighting to work and the layered look has a great feel in my opinion, even just using the same spider web on foreground and background got great uses here, and I feel there is lot of potential for horror too. The sound design here was my highlight I think, first time the whispers came I had that genuine dread overcome me, bit sad that there was no pay off (or rather the whispers proved quite fast that I didn't need to care for them), but I liked them. The story being open is fine and all, but I do feel it ended abruptly, but maybe that just means there is more to come, so who knows. But the story coupled with the rather extended walking aspect (backtracking and all), got me out of the experience a little.
Overall though, despite it all, good work on this, I hope you continue developing this as it seems you have good puzzle-narrative laid out for a fuller game!
Cool puzzles and cool game. I wish the movement was faster or the rooms had entry + exit so you don't have to backtrack after every room.
The art and sound design are carefully crafted, and the walls even have lighting effects similar to normal maps. However, there might be some issues with the texture layout in the browser version. The rooms aren’t very easy to distinguish, and I often got lost. Overall, it’s a solid horror game!
Cool sound design and charming artwork! Maye we could have walked tiny bit faster! And the Puzzle got me maybe as it was a circle with no apparent starting point, But still good job on the overall vibe of the game. Kinda wished that the ghost was a bit of threat to the player.
I love the whispering when the red ghost appears!! Great atmosphere and enjoyable game! Very well done to you all :)
Very neat project! I like the puzzles a lot! I will say it is certainly better to download the game; the browser version really kicked up my fans I though my PC was going to take off lol. The style is neat, the sound design consistent, and good atmosphere. Some typos here and there, and the text box position is inconsistent. Some graphical aspects, like the size of everything is inconsistent scene to scene. I wish the ghost was a genuine threat, and that there were some higher stakes. I initially thought that her appearance was some sort of indicator that i need to hurry up, but no. The puzzles confused me a little bit. Overall though, great work! Good luck in all of your other work!
We appreciate you playing and giving us feedback. Since we got a late start on the jam, we unfortunately had to scrap a few mechanics. This included a more frightening and interesting feature for the ghost
Really cool! loved the puzzle and detective element of the game
Great atmosphere, sound design, and art! It looks really beautiful, despite the problem about unequal pixel size. I don't really understand the story, though, and yeah, the protagonist walk really slow, but still I can see that there's a lot of work put into it, especially the atmosphere. Great game!
Thank you very much for playing and for the feedback. This is only our second jam, so we're still really new to this. We'll be better next time!
Nice small project, I liked the idea of old man facing off against a ghost story. However the graphics lack uniformity, the cutscene and notes is drawn in high resolution, but the game is pixel art, and the resolution of sprites varies a lot, additionally some elements use normal maps and some, including the player do not.
Also the fear of the ghost disappeared for me completely when I was forced to walk into her when she blocked the door. I realized then that she is no threat and can be ignored completely and I just walked into her each time without care. I feel like making her appear for only 2-3 seconds with some ability to harm the player would help keep the horror up. Not even health/death, but maybe temporarily dim the light or slow the player, so she isn't reduced to such a non-factor entity.
I had trouble with the book puzzle, in retrospect the answer can be deduced. However it's not the most logical one. The note pointing towards the order has the arrows in a circle, with no start point. The other note however suggests strict order of: Water, Earth, Fire, Air. When read with the other note it suggests changing the symbols in accordance with the arrows to: Air, Water, Earth, Fire. This feels like the logical solution.
There is no reasonable hint that suggests to the player that Earth is the starting point in the sequence. When dealing with puzzles it’s important to find play testers not involved with the creation of the puzzle to see if there are no other logical solutions that fit more or if the hints could use some work.
I feel like with more experience and work the game could be really interesting creation, especially if the interactions with objects showed some of the protagonists character.
Best of luck in all future projects, You already made the first most important step of starting the journey ♥
Thank you so much for the feedback! This is only our second jam, so we're still babies in this space. Thanks for playing and for your kind words!
Great audio design. Love the puzzles too. A solid entry to the jam. Yall actually managed to make a 2D sidescrolling game scary. However, I noticed some room for improvements with the visuals:
- The individual sprite works are gorgeous, but together they don't complement each other as well as it could've been. See my next point.
- Tone down the normal maps of the brick wall. It does give it a more 3D look but now everything else looks extra flat and lacks depth. This is especially true for the doors, which are also overexposed/overblown white balance.
- The dialog box needs a more fitting font and the design of the yes or no button doesn't really match
This was our first time using normal maps, and we definitely want to improve on that aspect. All the assets have them, but not all of them ended up looking good, to be honest. Thanks for playing and for the feedback!
Great game! It was quite interesting to wander around the house and explore the environment.
However, in some rooms the character wasn’t visible after entering.
The overall soundscape is sufficient; I don’t even think music is necessary.
I really liked the puzzle, classic but still effective: I took a screenshot to remember it, haha!
As many have already said, the character’s slowness makes sense in terms of lore, but it’s a little frustrating in terms of gameplay.
Well done!
This game needs patience and deeply analyzing stuff in order to progress. I like games with backtracking, but I think the sprite needs to get a little faster. Godot takes time to learn and understand. Big respect to you guys . The sounds are awesome, I can imagine how creatively you guys did it looooollll. The ghost is very silly and Dante has that "ulala" voice which makes him more badass. Thank you Ferret Mustache Studio for the recommendation. Happy Halloween!
