How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
The protagonist is cursed by a witch in a unlucky spell, and now he faces falling ladders, shattering mirrors, and animals attacking him. Also the combat is based on gambling/luck, as he was cursed by the witch because he lost a bet with her.

This game feels just right, graphics are nice, music is good, maybe the grass and vines are a touch confusing, but it's manageable.

Pure RNG combat makes me not want to engage with it at all though. Running is as much a gamble, so I'll just do that. It seems pointless to enter the final fight with full chips anyway.

After beating a dog on the way back to the witch I moved north a bit and got stuck on a black screen.  the music was still playing, but the screen was just blank

But up until then i was having fun!  I like to imagine the cat is just pawing adorably at the dice.  The combat was fast but interesting, and the art was very gameboy-esc.  Good job!

We're really, really sorry you got softlocked... It was a specific situation in that scene that we knew could cause problems, but we couldn't fix it in time as we discovered it with less than an hour to submit the project, so we had to submit it as it was. We were really hoping it wouldn't happen in the final build, but sadly it did... But regardless, thank you for the feedback and hope you could enjoy it despite this issue. We'll make sure to fix it if we update the game!

Wow! Charming story, fun mechanics, killer soundtrack. Easily one of the most "Game Boy" non-ROM entries I've seen so far! I appreciate how simple and readable the combat is, and I like how it retains the pure luck aspect while ultimately favoring the player in the early-game against low HP encounters. The non-dog enemies have fun-to-avoid movement patterns that makes dodging them quite satisfying. The cat, both in story and mechanic, is exceedingly charming!

I only had two issues. The first was that is was initially hard to distinguish between impassable vines and flowers. The second was that I accidentally froze the game when trying to exit the graveyard from the north (where the dog blocks the way).

Fantastic! Great work!

I froze at the same spot

Really glad you enjoyed it that much, and thank you so much for the feedback!! Sadly, we couldn't fix the softlock in the dog scene in time, and we're really sorry it got in the way during your playthrough. But regardless, thank you for pointing it out, we'll make sure to fix it if we update the game someday! (We'll also think about what to do with the vines, since we agree they can be hard to distinguish from other plants at first, so thanks again!)

I mean, if you’re cursed with bad luck, you should really follow traffic rules XD

Thank you very much, we appreciate it a lot!!!

The combat system is very easy to understand, and losing a battle not resulting in a game over is very welcome.

Very solid game, congrats!

Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it!

What a lovely game! The areas are so charming and the life system in the form of tickets is really clever. Even though the fights can feel unfair from pure RNG I like how having the cat balances it out. And bonus points for being able to fight ladders which I was really hoping for when I encountered one.

Developer

Glad you liked it, I really appreciate it!
Yeah, we saw the opportunity to turn ladders into an enemy, and we're proud we made it happen.

Awesome game, perfect for the theme and everything, it did feel like the last battle against the witch is too difficult, but maybe I missed something, but great game regardless.

Thank you very much for the feedback! Yeah, sadly we didn't had time to balance the final boss, but the black dice upgrade you can find in the city make it a bit easier, in case you missed it. Thanks again for checking our game, appreciate it a lot!
