I managed to get to 2 days left with 4 pineapples and 4 boozes and like 15 slots, but somehow couldn't manage to get more than 3 pineapples into our intrepid hero's mouth, both days. Sad times.
I liked the variety in options for the fridge contents (though I'd have liked to be able to remove some from my deck). Here's some nitpicks:
- The eating animation is a bit slow, especially when you have like three rows of food to eat.
- The wording of the burger is a bit vague; I thought that each burger would be worth the amount shown, but it seems like it's in total? But then for e.g. 3 burgers giving 8 cash, it means two have to be worth 3, and one worth 2, which seems needlessly complicated. Feels like the simpler explanation would have been to have each burger be worth the number of burgers that were played out (e.g. if you played 3, each burger is worth 3). I think that's basically the system you have (other than the rogue 3 burgers = 8 cash one), but the explanation could be much simpler.
- The fact that the day immediately ends at the last placement is a bit annoying. Probably only the salad is relevant here, but I could have e.g. cleared out a slot if the last one is a salad, but the day just ends, so I can't.
- I'm very risk-averse in games like this, so take the following with lots of salt: I'm not sure about the binge mechanic. While there are some mitigation strategies (i.e. the salad and mushroom, and picking with booze and hotdog), the cost for them is too high. E.g. the salad's removal effect is nice, but because it does nothing but uses up a slot, it's a net loss, except if you need to remove something for the binge issue, but even then, the cost feels very high. And so, the binge foods don't really seem worth buying, because the downsides are huge, especially as you get more space, and the ways to combat the downsides are themselves kind of problematic, in that they only solve the binge issue, but don't give you anything else. I feel like if the e.g. mushroom also gave you 2 cash, it would feel a lot more viable. But as it stands, I basically just never bought any binge foods.
Overall, I think this has a really good game loop and interesting decisions; great entry!
Hey Jaco thanks so much for playing! That's insanely unlucky that you didn't win, in my opinion you won in spirit.
Agree the eating animation is too slow! It was actually even slower haha, but I think faster is better.
Yeah your burger idea is 100% better.
The immediate day ending is lame especially with things like salad, I think having it like that is more a jam time constraint than a design choice, so I 100% agree.
I think that Binge! is the main risk/reward mechanic in this game so I'll have to disagree. I do however agree that none of the Binge strategies are particularly viable even with things like Mushroom, Salad and Booze. Especially since the main thing you need to win is get more trays. With more trays there's more chance to Binge. So generally speaking you get more trays and then mitigate binge chance with mushroom/salad. The most fun in this game is when you have 2 Binge and are considering to push your luck or not and that's what I like about it.
Thanks so much for playing!
Immediately recognized the connection to ‘Get Yoked’ from the thumbnail! 👏 I sadly was not bigbrain enough to feed my human guinea pig even one pineapple 🍍 he did chunder once or twice though, lol
I really like the body physics of this game! Well done
Took me a bit to figure out how things worked but when I did I was hooked. Also man that thumbnail was eyecatching XD. Would love to see an update with a fleshed out tutorial and more juice bc I need to see more of this anti-yoke game!!!
Hahah thats awesome you got hooked! Yeah I wish I had time to do a tutorial. Thanks yeah that thumbnail is classic xD.
Not sure there will be more anti yoke game lol but I had a blast making it and thanks for playing!
Only managed two pineapples but it was a good time, for me, not him. Took me a couple of pukes before I got the binge mechanics, but I like the immediate risk of deciding to keep going or not. The music weirdly works too. 10/10
Yoo thanks so much for playing two pineapples is close! Probably a few too many Binges.
Interesting game, became very addictive. Did not get to 4 pineapples, but I will try it again.
We played it. Here's our live feedback. YouTube (with timestamp)
awesome!! Thanks so much for playing. Yeah it is like blackjack where if you go over 21 you’re bust, but in this it’s draw 3 binge foods and you puke.
I like the matrix theming idea, that’d be so sick! I was laughing at how grossed out you were getting Sugar. Great feedback, and thanks so much for playing!
There’s a lot going on and you guys basically figured it all out, maybe one more run and you would’ve taken the W haha.
very unique take on the theme… never thought I would be shoving food down someone’s throat, but here we are. I refused to feed hi, for a while and nothing happened, so I gave in and somehow made him puke (realised this was because of the 2 cards after)
Took me a minute to figure out you need to end the day to get him to eat, and not drag drop the food on the trays onto him. once I figured that out though I had a blast. it's a weird unique game, and a really funny take on the theme! Great job dude.
Awesome, thanks for playing! Did you manage to eat 4 pineapples (take the W)? Cmon someones gotta beat it! xd
Hahaha I'll give it another go when I've finished playing some other games!
I managed two at most before running out of days, though I do think I now see the strategy for it. honestly crazy amount of depth for the short dev time.
Hahah sick, 2 is so close! Probably a couple unlucky Binge days got you. Thanks! I cant take full credit for the design, it's inspired by a UFO50 game called Party House, but I'll take credit for the fat guy part.
No idea what I'm doing, but I did feed him. The game lacks a tutorial or an easy way to figure out the interactions.
After you figure it out, then it's like, what is the goal?
At one point, I just did not feed him at all, and there were no noticeable immediate consequences.
The game is fairly deep, and the fact that if you feed him too much, he pukes, I like that.
Thanks yeah I didn't have time for a tutorial, and was hoping the foods would explain it if you read the tooltips in the shop. The main goal is to eat 4 pineapples in one day. He also pukes if you draw more than 2 Binge foods. Appreciate you playing, thanks for feedback!
Really deep system, did NOT expect to do THIS amount of strategy. A+
Thanks! Glad you got into it <3
Different take on a push your luck/deck builder game, good luck with the jam :)
Thanks!!
Weird game, I did not understand it. I had no idea what I was doing.
Yeah I didn't have time for a tutorial, appreciate you playing nontheless. The main goal is eat 4 pineapples, and drawing more than 2 Binge! foods makes you puke.
Ate food, got fat, 10/10 would binge again.
What in the obesity?
The game is very interesting, it took me a while to figure out how it works, so a tutorial would be helpful. Unfortunately, I was only able to eat one pineapple. The eating animation feels a bit slow, but I like how the character’s body weight shifts from super skinny to uncomfortably fat at times. Overall, it’s a nice concept, well done.
I have no idea what I am doing but this guy seems to be having fun... sometimes
Yeah certain foods have "Binge!" which will make your guy puke if you draw 3. I didn't have time for a tutorial but appreciate you playing!
I dont know what I just played.
I might take a break from games for a while...
Hahaha thanks for playing!
Idk why this was just hitting the dopamine receptors so nicely. It reminds me of that scene in Wreck It Ralph where he feeds the animals pancakes and milkshakes but just over feeds the one. Honestly so weird, love it!
Thanks! Wreck it Ralph is a classic
Those mushrooms and lettuce saved me many times! Loved playing this and the direction you took the theme in, very funny! :D
Mushrooms and lettuce are epic for Binge runs, thanks for playing!
i could not resist the binge! Who knew force feeding a human would be so therapeutic. Cool game!
Hahah glad it was therapeutic, thanks for playing!
