How does the game fit the theme?
Every trade at the market is a risk. You need at least 3 of Dad’s items to win, but fragile goods can spoil and trinkets can tempt you. The core of the game is weighing what to keep and what to give up.
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Music (Apple Cider by Zane Little Music) and font (Quaver by caffinate). Everything else (art + code) was made from scratch during the jam by me.

But on a more serious note, well done with the art! The gameplay of planning how to min-max Dad’s items is somewhat tricky and RNG. I don’t think I could ever get all 6 as I struggle to get 5. Also, figuring out that I could make multiple trades at a single stall was useful.
If you continue working on it, I think there needs to be an in-game tutorial for players to direct them to read the tooltips on the items in their inventory and the items they’re buying. It was very puzzling at first when items disappeared until I read the How To Play in the description.
Good game!
The idea is cool and fits the theme pretty well, the execution is pretty good, and the visual are nice.
Its kinda confusing though , and feels pretty much luck based. I also encountered a bug many times where when I buy an item I don't get it and instead the inventory slot that it was supposed to hold that item is occupied by the thing showed in the picture attached.
Oh wow, thank you for the bug report (and playing of course)! I have not encountered this during my plays, so will be looking into it. And thanks for the feedback as well, learning a lot so this all really helps me!
i spent way too long than i expected, which means it was really fun, very rng though, which is good for the gambler in me lols
I found it felt more confusing/limited than fun and challenging. But I was able to make my father proud, so at least i got to experience that fantasy for once in my life 🙈 (jk)
I liked the idea a lot of the items having different slot effects, but most of them seemed to be - you can’t interact with this in any meaningful way. Why are we even allowed to trade the egg ? away that says if you trade it it destroys the slot? And why are you forced to start with it sometimes? That one was probably the most confusing to me.
I really njoyed the background music choice, but it was suuuuper quiet.
Overall I’m glad to have gotten to play this, it was a fun brain challenge and a nice change of pace from some of the other types of games this jam. Good work!
Thank you so much for taking the time to play and for the honest feedback! :) I can really see what you mean, and some of those points were already on my mind while making it, so it is very helpful to keep in mind for future projects. I am glad you still had a good time with it!
YESSSS I DID IT! Took me longer than expected, I had a hard time figuring out why it wasn’t working. Most of my runs I ended up stuck with one of the starting items, but luckily I saw the comment on the page. Really simple and well-executed game, a good puzzle!
Dad finally smiled at me. First run I ended up somehow with 0 of the items he wanted. But cute concept. It's a shame about the retry loop not working. I used GetTree().ReloadCurrentScene() as a lazy way to restart the game on button click, however, that introduced a bug in my mute buttons, so I'm not an expert either. Extra points for replacing the default splash screen though
Dad is so proud. I haven't looked at the project since the whole export drama (aka my 2 AM nightmare) but really do want to figure out what happened, so thanks for the tip! And for playing of course :D
Is there even a chance to win in this game??? besides, the mechanics of refreshing the page really surprised me, but after the second time it started to annoy...
Cool game! I was a little confused at the start and when I tried bying stuff for dad he always seemed upset, but I really like the pixel art and the relaxing vibes from the music and calm gameplay, well done:)
Beautiful pixel art visuals, it gave Moonlighter vibes - super cool
Very fun mechanic and a good way to implement the theme :) Loved all the art and music, felt very cosy.
Trading is an interesting mechanics that I don’t usually see. Fun puzzle game!
this is a very chill unique game and I love it
Very interesting game! I could not bring everything to dad in all my runs, but he was still happy with my 4 items, so that's great =p! The art and atmophere was great, it's a neat little cosy game I would love to play again during a cold winter night, right next to a chimney =p!
I don't really understand what "my trinkets" are for, especially since our bag can only hold 5 items, the amount of items Dad wanted. Maybe having a bigger bag could incentivise taking more risks, because my gameplay was usually "only take what dad wanted and leave the rest". I also would have a wanted a way to know what the next store traded, to be able to plan a little bit better ^^.
But I still had a very nice time on the game and had a really nice moment! Congratulations ^^!
Thanks so much for playing, glad you had fun! :)
Trinkets were meant more as little boons during trading, sometimes helpful and sometimes risky or even bad since they might not give you what you want. Dad also does not seem to like (some of) them. It did not really come across as I hoped, but that is something I will learn from. Really appreciate the feedback!
Very nice art style! I do wish I could do more trading, but I was able to bring everything back on my second try. Very innovative and fun game.
This is a solid entry! The pixel art is really nice, and the trading mechanic is fairly innovative. It's mostly well balanced, I found it quite difficult but the risk/reward aspect is definitely present. It got a little frustrating when there were too many trades that I just didn't have the items for at all, so I could only make a single choice or skip.
A shame about the page reload but I didn't dock any points for that because I know how jams are :D
Ooooh boy. This game was quite the interesting match.
First off, the idea of trading to meet your dad's own quota and your own just for the fun of it is an excellent way to implement the theme of "risk it". I don't think I understood what exactly happened when you ran out of stuff to get, but maybe thats just a bug on my part.
I did have a couple of comments when it came to this, because I do consider that this game definitely could have used a bit more ease to the player:
- Think it may have been more apparent if you knew what items you needed to get before you entered your last stall, because then it turned into a giant memory game of "Oh, did I buy this for my dad?"
- I also didn't really understand the reward of getting your own stuff when you were put more pressure to purchase supplies for the father. I got how they were used (aka for trade), but I think I was just confused about how they were meant to be used. Quite lost within those. Perhaps a bit more rewarding way to give the players a reason to try to "risk" getting more supplies for yourself AND your father would have been nice.
'Believe most of my feedback I provided were clarity issues. Still, the gameplay was still great, and I def see it working out better to become as good as those other games out there in this game jam.
I'm hoping you do more. This was your best attempt, and well: nothing is easy when you first start.
Probably going to have to give it a 5/10 on my part, but well done regardless! You did well!
Thank you so much for playing and for taking the time to write such thoughtful feedback, I really appreciate it :)
You are absolutely right about the clarity issues. A lot of what you mentioned is already on my “if I had more time/what I would do differently” list, and I will definitely take this feedback with me when working on my next game. This was also my first time using Godot, so I learned a lot along the way.
Glad you still enjoyed the core idea and to hear you see the potential. This was my first jam game ever, so feedback like this is really valuable to me. Thanks again for playing!
fun mechanic! I really appreciate the backstory, it made the game more interesting to play!
Very cool puzzle idea! I haven't seen something like this before, requires a lot of thinking and planning! The graphics are very nice as well! Good job!
Quite unique gameplay mechanic for me, seems complicated, but surely could fit it an another game as an addition to the main gameplay. The game is difficult, but after a few tries I managed to beat it. Great work!
P.S. I really missed restart button :((((
Thank you so much for playing! Some day the restart will be in the game (maybe)
Solid game with a nice pixel art style 👍. Besides the aforementioned reload issue, the tooltip was too big and did not display within the game scene. The game was hard, and I was unlucky on the trades available :(
