Ranked from 59 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

How does the game fit the theme?
Story:
• You are taking a risk by opening a portal to the underworld to consume a biscuit.

Game Mechanics:
• Your SOUL bar (health + stamina) is constantly being drained
• Every attack decreases your SOUL
• The longer the enemy is alive the more SOUL you gain upon defeating it
• Random stat modifiers appear that can either be buffs or debuffs during the waves

These game mechanics incentivise the player to take risks like keeping an enemy alive for the advantage of gaining more soul upon defeating it but at the disadvantage of the enemy having more opportunities to attack, or as another example, choosing to pick up a mystery stat modifier to gain a random buff or debuff.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
All assets and code were created during the game jam, except for 3 sound effects and an explosion animation (sound effects being; the melee attack, the explosion at the end of the game and pickup sounds) . Those external audio files are credited on the game’s page, as a way to thank and acknowledge their original authors for generously making them available for free.

Everything else — the tileset, character and enemy designs, UI design, character movement and animation, original pixel art, music, and sound effects — was created during the jam.

Great work on the visuals and a really nice game overall, great work!

I liked the art of the game and the music also fit the atmosphere perfectly. However, regarding the gameplay, it was a bit difficult for me to control the game. However, in my opinion, if the movement, shooting, and changing skills were controlled entirely with the mouse and the attack area was not limited, the game would be much more exciting. Overall, it was a good game. Good luck.

Very cool interpretation of the theme. The concept is very cool (and hard). I had a little truble ajusting for the controls (I kept trying to aim with the mouse), but other then that it all ran quite smothly. And the art is very good, the soundtrack as well, gave a great vibe. Congrats on a great work!

Developer

Ty! In a future versıon of the game we plan on aiming the melee with the mouse wıth so many people struggling to adjust to it (with probable reason tbh :P ) so thanks for the feedback <3

This is the best implementation of a risk-reward system I've seen so far in this jam! The enemies can be a little unforgiving, but the gameplay loop is very satisfying.

Really great game, love that you took the time to make so many custom assets despite being a small team, and think it really helped with making the vibe consistent. Thought this was a really polished game, nice work.

Good game, I finished the game without playing the tutorial haha. I think that might have been for the best since dashing and magic cost so many souls :D

It was fun, I would have liked a hit indicator for the slimes. I wasn't sure if they took damage sometimes. Great art and great sounds

Developer

Thanks for the feedback <3 ( They're supposed to be ghosts btw :P )

I really love pixel art. Yours is perfect! And from what I saw, you guys made it during the jam week, right?! It's incredible how polished it is! Congratulations!!!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!! Means a lot with what you developed in a week also <3 ( amazing art!)

Interesting little game. It took me a moment to get used to controls and combat mechanics, but after that the game was really enjoyable to play! The idea of tying health and mana together is very clever!

Keep up the good work!

great game. love the pixel art style.

The game concept is good and the music is excellent. I found the controls to be a bit odd - not sure if there was a delay after clicking, but I had trouble with responsiveness. It seems the mouse can't be used to aim; if that is correct I would have liked a keyboard "attack" button instead of left click. Overall, a solid entry. Great work!

Developer

Ty for the feedback! At first the game was supposed to be keyboard only, but after deciding on the spell controls I thought the next best option for attavk would be on the mouse. Will definitively work on better controls next time. Glad you enjoyed it!

Hectic and exciting! Really liked the vibe with the art + music coming together well. I also liked the feel of the controls. Good job!

Submitted(+1)

Awesome job! It was really satisfying to kite a giant group of enemies.

I was bumpin my head to the ost the whole time haha.  This is really impressive for one person to pull together in a week! I liked the challenge of managing everything through the spirit bar.

Developer

Yeah the music took a lot of time so I appreciate the kind words! (Fyi I made the mechanics and the music, a friend called ringo_blues mad ethe art the link to his acc is on the games page)

very tight and responsive endless gameplay controls ^^

nice music and sounds and art!

a bit difficult i got to wave 3 !

For some odd reason, raising or lowering volume makes the player character run left a bit.

That being said, it was enjoyable for a bit! However, I felt like I was constantly starving because enemies wouldn't spawn fast enough and I couldn't always find them in time. Regardless, nice work!

I enjoyed the gameplay and controls. The hardcore 8-bit style trade-off of health for survival is really interesting. I feel like a score-based system could also work really well for this game if you wanted to lean more toward the vampire survivor style, but that’s just my personal take.

The wizard's movements are so much fun, and the combat style is exactly what I like. The trade-off between attacking and dodging is really interesting. I have to admit, the powerful spell cannon is just too tempting; my first two deaths were from overusing it, lol.

For the melee combat, it would be great if there was some hit-feedback from the monsters. Sometimes I wasn't sure if my attacks were actually landing. Overall, this is a great game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! We added a mechanic where if you actually hit the enemy you bounce off them (kind of like hollow knight) but I will look into making that feature more responsive in the future, so thanks!

I loved the aesthetic and main character design.

The movement is smooth :)
