  • kit: these words may not reach you, but I think you and team did alright here! I know how the inner mind likes to play tricks on us -- I used to overthink like that a lot you didn't do poorly at all here... stand proud that you made it to the finish line, alongside dozens of other first-timer devs who are just as fresh as you are! very few game projects get started, let alone released (even if unfinished). you are your own strongest obstacle right now, and I'm afraid nobody but *you* can overcome that! -> if you can't be fair to yourself, how will you grow and learn new skills with a mind open to the joys of entertaining random silly thoughts for the sake of being silly -- rather than being competitive or comparative, or self-deprecating? just food for thought... I hope you and team enjoyed the jam for what you made of it!

How does your game fit into the theme?
The main mechanic involves being able to chain multiple Dragoons/Wisps into eachother, and by being cleared, they can lead to more chains to be triggered. A chain reaction of chains if you will.

Puyo Puyo is always fun! Couldn't feel the missing week at all!

Developer

That really means a lot, thanks ^^;

That was actually really fun! Was not expecting the tetris-like game but all in all I really enjoyed it^^

Developer

Thank you ^^

I aint no puyo master. I can purposefully build 2 chains and no more. Yet the final fight was a breeze for me. Although I guess I understand if someone is wholly new to puyo they might struggle a bit.

Cute game, feels nice and smooth to control.

Lots of fun :3 AI tough but still very fun

idk what the apologies are for man this feels so whole of a game. the art is very well done, the noises, the music fits, my favorite feature is the fact you can bonk mint and doki. The only thing that can be considered bad is proably how mint whoops you real quick after your ego boosting from demolishing her round 1. I still havent beat her but IVE BEEN CLOSE I SWEAR. Its simple, its fun, feels like a game, just that i guess the ai beats you up round 2 i guess? Especially with the raid thingy too.

feels polish asf from what ive seen, heres a star sticker.

Developer

Thanks, I'm surprised the final fight is so hard, it adds an extra colour but i thought it'd make it harder for the CPU than it would for the player, either way, noted.

Hold on? When I played the game for the first time, it was relatively easy.

But now, I got destroyed in round one.

Developer

I haven't touched the AI whatsoever when bug-fixing, but the AI is a bit RNG-ish depending on the peices it gets. I had like only really a day or so to focus on it so it isn't the most advanced thing out there ^^;

Super solid! Really my only gameplay complaint is that the healthbars felt a little too big which lead to the matches feeling quite long (maybe that's just my own comboing skill issue though...)

The music also bugged in a couple of spots after winning the second round but it's at the end so it's not a big deal tbh

Otherwise, this is great! It's puyopuyo, it's fun, it works well, has fun character art, just good all around! I enjoy

Developer(+1)

Bugged in what way if I may ask?

Also about the health bars, that's intresting since I added them specifically since it'd take forever if it was only the same goal as Puyo of filling the opponent's board, though then again there's probably a bunch of different ways I could've fixed that, if i'm being honest the reason i settled on the HP system was just bc I really liked coding the effects, I'm not sure it synergises with gameplay as well as I hoped though

Bugged as in it replayed the music track after the second round (which kinda doubled/echoed the music) then when it booted me back to the title screen it played the music once again without stopping the previous 2, which was a little cacophonous (once again, not a big issue given you can just restart the game entirely at that point)

As for the health bar, I thought it was a cool idea! I just also think the health on both sides should have been a bit lower to make things snappier. If it means anything, the health was so large I think I actually had mint top out at some point which did a lot of damage(?) but also cleared the tower she was stuck on, so the amount of health made things longer in that case

Oh god I added the pause screen before adding music into the game so I completely overlooked that, will fix ASAP

This feels like a full game and the bot totally cooked my a$$! Amazing job!

Developer(+1)

Tysm ^^I'm surprised the bot worked so well since I didn't really program it the ability to see chains since it'd take too much time, so I just made it de-prioritise completing sets of 4 for a while and hoped RNG would take care of the rest, though then again it did get a bunch of lucky chains while testing, so maybe I was onto something ^^;

Submitted

Hey! this is really well polished for the little time. Great work!

Developer

Ah tysm ^^ I worry the lack of menus and backgrounds would make it look really unpolished

Really captures the Puyo Puyo game well! I like the designs too. Great that there's full sound as well.

Developer

Thank you ^^

Very nice. I never played PuyoPuyo, so I think you made a good impression!

Developer

Ah thanks ^^
