I like how this game uses the theme. Good job!
Thank you
This game clearly lacks polish and the art is quite silly. But somehow it just adds to the uncanniness. There is potential here.
I was going for a simple art style
There's the start of something here, but it's just a little too rough to enjoy fully. There was something unique about the art style that pleased me and I can't quite put my finger on it. It might be the large shadows and the open space background that somehow made it nice.
Thank you! I might revisit the game but I doubt it.
Pretty interesting spooky(ish?) game. I'm not normally a fan of spooky games, but the art style didn't make me think it was. The spooky music did unnerve me though. It contrasts quite a lot with the art style with wacky looking monsters. This sort of juxtaposition is present in quite a few media out there, so it can certainly work (it did unnerve me, so I guess it did?) If that was the intent then I guess I can report that it worked for me!
Gameplaywise, I'm not too sold on it. The variety was too little to keep me hooked, although I felt there wasn't much else to the game past the first green blob boss monster. The enemies seem to scale faster than the player, which further makes it more difficult to tell if I'm even progressing at all to warrant upgrades. Speaking of upgrades, I wasn't sure what the difference was between the weapons. Even if I did notice a difference in damage, I wasn't sure if it was because of a damage upgrade. I don't know if I'm missing something in that regard, like a statistics somewhere.
Controls seem simple enough and reasonable, but the lack of feedback on attack animation makes it hard to tell when a creature is about to attack or if my attacks were registering. As what others have said, I'm even a single keyframe of 'attack' would be a huge improvement!
Regardless, good job on getting this much in such a small span of time! I know it's not easy... especially after being on several jams it can really stress one out a lot! I hope my words were not too harsh; I only intend to be as honest as I can. Good luck on your future endeavors!
Thank you for the feedback! I fully agree that some form of animations are needed for player attacks etc, as well as weapon stats. Sadly I did not have enough time to complete it. Boss variety is not something that I considered in all honesty, but looking back it would definitely help. I was going for a liminal space-ish/clinical art style, I'm glad the music helped haha
The game has a cool atmosphere. Some more varied abilities and pick-ups would add a lot I think. Good job!
Thank you!
Very eerie I like the vibes. However I was little bit confused by how I was meant to be attacking and when exactly I was getting attack. I think a simple attack animation would go a long way! Good job though! The ring around the rosy song made my skin crawl lol
Glad you found it scary, I fully agree feedback should be added but sadly did not have the time for it
The music and SFX makes the game really eerie and immersive, felt scared a little with those ghostly whispers. Also interesting usage of "loop" by having 4 rooms connected in a circle.
Thank you! I was looking at adding additional rooms but my creativity lacks heavily in that part of game design
I was literally stuck in the room (far right room with purple blob), infinitely!
For this, my first GMTK game jam submission, I opted for a word-search game that implements the LOOP theme.
Please give my word-search game a try, it's nothing too fancy but very playable. Please try and rate if you can, just want to get it out there!
Just out of curiosity, were you stuck due to a bug or was it difficult to pass? I will check yours out aswell!
I just think I was in a room to the far right and didn't find a way out again.
I kinda missed the attack animations and some description of the difference between weapons. But nice job, I was able to deafeat the first boss
Thank you! I agree, sadly I did not have enough time to add those
I think a lot of people mentioned the need of an attack animation, or some indication for how big the hitbox is. But I think the game would benefit from an attack animation from the enemies too so you could dodge or see the incoming the attacks.
Anyway despite everything, I enjoyed the dungeon crawler vibes! I think i managed 4 rounds or so (died at the second boss) but theres a lot of potential for different room types and creative options, especially when its randomized!
Thank you! I agree, it is sadly something I didnt have enough time to add. Room design could definitely be expanded, with the addition of a few extra rooms to make a bigger loop aswell.
Adding a slight attack animation would've helped a lot with knowing when I was actually in range of an attack with my weapon, at first I was just taking damage from the slimes. I like the overall idea and slight horror vibe, can see it developing further into a horror dungeon crawler mystery that I love!
Thank you! I fully agree there needs to be some form of feedback but I did not have enough time sadly
This game truthfully doesn't really look all that great, the audio feels a bit tiring, the movement is kind of slow, you describe very little of what actually happens in any sort of way, it's difficult to tell if your attacking or being hit, and doesn't really feel all that polished to be honest. I really am not trying to be mean, these are just things I personally really thought brought the game down, but it's a good enough room generation mechanic, but honestly a bit more text to explain what's the difference between the weapon, working on the art maybe for a good bit longer, and pitch shifting the audio could all be great additions
I appreciate the feedback. For a game that was made by a single person that didnt spend every waking hour working on it, I am more than happy with it. I fully agree with the lack of feedback for player input or damage and potential issues with the audio as it is not my strong point, however I do have other commitments which is why a game that is meant to be made on a time crunch might seem unpolished. Again thank you for the feedback, but a little positivity can go a long way aswell.
Yeah I 100% know that, I personally only had 48 hours for my game, just it's some of the little things that matter, like adding a few more animations, and redoing some art, and such
I really liked the room variety in this game, the room where you have to pick one of 3 boxes felt especially creative for a game like this. I also like how you can actually dodge attacks if you move right. And lastly I really like the atmosphere in this game, great work!
Thank you! I refer to that room as the casino for obvious reasons haha
I am not sure when I am taking damage and when I am attacking.
I like that I can actually like sprint when walking diagonally
Many have mentioned that. I didnt have enough time to add feedback sadly
Shout out to John Hazmat, What a guy! keeping the spaceship safe for everyone!
Maybe some stats for the weapons would be great! but for a gamejam its amazing
Thank you! It crossed my mind once to have little stat cards when you hover over items but it came down to a lack of time with it.
w game
Throwing bricks at aliens!! (Something to see the attacks would be nice, but other than that the game has a very nice atmosphere and the pacing is great! Good job!)
Thank you!
Nice job. I like the visuals and walking animations. Attack animation would be great and seeing how long the attack range is. Also small camera shake when hitting enemies would be nice. Great work!
Thank you! Ive had many people mention i should add feedback
A simple game, but for some reason I found it strangely engaging. The core gameplay loop (pun not intended) is fun. I like how you just keep quickly getting back into action.
Thank you!
Very atmospheric, the monsters freaked me out a bit! (also the kid xD) Good job!
Thank you! Glad to hear the atmosphere is working haha
