Fun little alchemy-style game!
The intro was funny and well thought out.âșïž
It was enjoyable to discover the elements and experiment with combinations.
That said, it did involve quite a bit of clicking especially when you had to recreate certain elements just to use them in something else. While thatâs part of the gameâs core idea, it could feel a bit click-heavy and I did not make it to create all the stuff. But did enjoy finding a lot of them.
Visually, it was fine, and the audio was pleasant to listen to đ”
The theme was present...check â
Well done—keep it up! đ§Șâš
thank you for playing and reviewing GoedWare! I received a lot of constructive comments and Im considering everything to make this game a lot more user friendly
Found that exploit about taking the items from the cauldron while crafting to keep them, was very helpful in preserving my sanity (make this a feature where it just always gives you the materials back, 100% we love QOL like that), my sanity lasted until I could not progress anymore (stuck making algae, worms, compost, and plankton),
The gameâs graphics were solid, not much to say about them.
Having a rock track play over a simple and slightly gimmicky merge game didnât fit very well, but it was fun to hear.
You definitely hit that theme, in fact the only thing I donât think you made a resource is the text box which would be redundant as youâre already 5 stars here.
Good game!
yeah Im considering a way of preserving the resources if you hit the cauldron at the right time. The rock theme was also criticized before, and I completely agree đ thank you for your comment!
Look at that—someone else using Game Maker hahaha! And using it really well, by the way! I really liked your introduction—it was extremely creative how you started the game, with the text crashing onto the screen, things falling, breaking the text elements... you nailed that!
The core concept of the game is simple but very well executed. It was easy to understand how things worked, but a few extra hints about which elements could or couldn't be combined would help a lot to improve the game flow, since trial and error takes quite a bit of time—especially considering the wait between each attempt.
Are there any power-ups in the game? If so, I couldnât find them, but I believe theyâd be really useful for increasing replayability—maybe we could search the sand or even the sea for temporary powers to help with collecting.
For example, maybe something like an "excavator" for the dirt or a "harpoon" for the sea? Well, the ideas are wild and varied—it would depend a lot on the direction you want the game to take, especially if youâre planning to continue with it.
It was a really pleasant and fun experience. Itâs simple, yes, but made with heart and able to keep the player engaged. Great work and best of luck in the jam!
thank you so much for your kind and constructive review! It's always a surprise to find a fellow game maker user XD and you're BR too right? Ive been considering a lot of different ways of finding new items without the need of using the cauldron, like your idea of fishing. I do want to update it soon to get more constructive reviews like yours
Simple but super addictive!
Merging elements to discover new ones is always satisfying, and the variety here kept me curious.
Looking forward to seeing how it grows — great base
thank you! I'll try to keep updating it
I liked the intro cinematic, it was very animated and activating the world map gave a really cool effect. I did get stuck at tree though so maybe some hint system could help. I also liked how planting the grass allowed you to duplicate it, thus eliminating quite a few steps from the mixing process.
Thanks for the comment! Having a way of getting unstuck is still a plan, but I didnt manage to put it into the jam version. Also the idea of the grass and some other resources is to make them self sustainable, so you have some kind of checkpoint on recipes
Loved it! Great way to use the theme
thanks! Glad you liked it!
Are you trolling? Funny intro.
did you manage to go past the intro?
not shore
Great usage of the theme (I don't know if anyone else did "stuff you create is also a resource"), and great idea!
I also liked the presentation (all the stuff was easily reckognisable, and you added labels when shift is pressed- nice quality-of-life improvement). Same goes for sounds and music- I was pleasently surprised when music started when I opened the map!
From the other hand- I didn't end the game- I got stuck trying different combinations of stuff, and couldn't find the ones I didn't, Some form of "journal" could be useful (like- you checked this combination, and it gave you this, and those gave you nothing).
There was also one thing, that I think was a bug, but I liked it. If you clicked on the cauldron after you added the components, but before it created the result, it gave you both the components and the result! This sped up my game quite a lot! And since you needed to click at the right moment it even felt rewarding- like I won all the stuff because of my fast clicking!
thanks for the comment kkcn! I wanted to add a journal but didnt have time. The bug was also on my todo list, but after it's reception, it'll definitely turn into a game mechanic hahaha
really cool concept, love the idea of the intro and the controls, really cool entry man x3 love it.
thank you! Great to hear that!
I like the concept of the game, controls feels great and the intro is cool too! Great work :D
thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great game! Loved the intro part, and the merging puzzles were really fun to figure out. Also gathering the resources was really satisfying. Very polished!
thank you!
GAMEPLAY: I'm very charmed by how the concept was introduced, even if it seems lifted from "There Is No Game". Clicking repeatedly gets annoying after a while--would have appreciated an index of sorts to pull from so I don't have to keep crafting algae.
VISUALS: Not my favorite pixel art I've seen so far, but not bad, and definitely conveys the point. I quite like the icons in particular.
AUDIO: While I like the music, maybe I shouldn't be jamming so much. Something this lively is distracting from the merge puzzles.
THEME: Picking apart the title, the map, practically everything? Nails the theme as far as I consider it.
I havent played that game, got inspiration from games like infinite craft and doodle god. Algae was also supposed to be a "self sustainable" resource, but a bug showed up on my last deploy, sorry :\ Thanks for the feedback tho, Im still improving the game
This is a really cool take on the merging genre! I don't often enjoy these types of games, but I really liked this one because I can actually see how my creations affect the world! I did find it a bit annoy that there is no way to spawn in items you have already crafted, making you have to go through the whole process again starting with just water and dirt. I found a small bug that actually turned out to help me with this problem though: if you eject the crafting ingredients while they are crafting, you get the product plus the two crafting ingredients back. Overall, I really enjoyed it!
I noticed that bug at the last minute, but Im glad it worked on the player's favor! It might turn into an intentional mechanic XD Thanks for the feedback!
Absolutely incredible idle game! I love the concept — this is definitely something special. Iâd 100% buy it! Are you planning to develop a full version? Please let me know. I really love the idea — keep it up!
Im glad you enjoyed it that much! I'm still updating it, and if it gets big enough, I might put it on steam one day :D
Really loved the game starting. I loved the idea that you are playing a game in which you are actually building your game you want to play... lol. It has a potential too in my opinion. Right now we are just creating different stuff my combining item and is perfect for the jam but can be expanded later where you build your player, your environment, your abilities etc. That would make it so much more interesting. So great work. And background music and sound effect were really good.
at first I wanted to add a way to create a player and the environment the player was gonna play in. I might get back to this idea. Thanks for the feedback!
The game is like infinite craft and that fits a lot into the theme, the intro cutscene reminds me of "There is no Game" a not game that i loved so it's cool to see something like that
thanks! I got inspiration from infinite craft and doodle god
Great concept and so well executed!! The intro itself was amazing.. especially when that music kicked in when the map came up! The gameplay itself is quite engaging, and theres a lot of variety in the recipes which you can craft. Loved the retro/ pixel artstyle, went well with the theme and the vibe. Music and sound design was great! Overall a great entry, well done :)
Thank you for your comment! It means a lot!
