haha i always love simple racing game, and the graphic is so fit with the game. its fun to play your game, great job :D

Developer

I'm glad you liked it, thank you!

Submitted(+1)

Your game has a lot of potentials to develop and polishing but for now, it has good enough gameplay, nice work!

Developer

Thank you, I would love some specifics! What do you think needed the most improvement?

Submitted(+1)

Easy to play, short, and enjoyable!  The art is perfect and super crisp, and the sound effects are really well done.  The music is groovy and loops pretty well, if a little short--I want to hear more!  I loved the additional drift as you lost tires, I thought that was a very clever mechanic.  I think you made the level by hand which works, but looking into how to randomly generate the level would be beneficial for multiple playthroughs.  I also think having the police car follow you a little more closely would make it more exciting, and maybe give the police a bit of random up-and-down movement instead of following you perfectly.  All in all, a really solid submission for your first game!

Developer

Those are some great suggestions! Randomizing the police speed with a specified range wouldn't be too hard to achieve, I like that idea! Generating potholes proceduraly I think is a little above my experience level as I just started making games 2 months ago, but I can't put it off forever. Thanks for the feedback!

Yay! I could win it!

Those streets seems like the ones in my neighborhood thou. Haha

Cool game. :)

Developer

Nice! Yeah I'm from Michigan, wasn't hard to find inspiration in my own backyard (and front yard, and driveway, and on the way to work, and in parking lots, an-...)

Nicely done.  I just downloaded and played the game several times.  I like the groovy 8-bit track and graphics.   The bright colors and sprites are well done!

It would be cool if the cop car was closer behind you to increase the tension, and if the potholes only slowed you down temporary.  Right now, once you hit a pot hole, it slows you down so much that there isn't much reason to keep going (you might as well restart).  If the slowdown was temporary, it would feel like you could have the ability to recover.

Anyway, nice work!  I enjoyed playing your game!

Developer

I think if I had added more tires it would help, that way damage would have felt more temporary because tire pickups would be close by. I'm glad you liked my game enough to give it multiple tries, thank you for the feedback!

Very fun. My son had some good laughs at me playing.

Developer

Well thats pretty cool to hear, thank you for sharing that with me!

Submitted(+1)

I really like the idea of a damaged car but there could be more tires on the track. Good audio and graphics. It's funny how the police car catches up.

Developer

Totally agree, needed more tires. Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

wow pretty good!

things i liked:

  • The loop of the music was short but at the same time it sounded really good so if you made it really good job! (and if you didn't, nice pick!)
  • The fact that the car deviates when you loss a tire is really cool instead of just acting like lifes.
  • The graphics are nice too, they are not so complicated but the aesthetic is really nice.
  • The use of the theme is original

What could be better:

  • Shorter level and/or more tires

I did the last 200m with no tires and it was super intense xd

Developer

This is some incredibly useful feedback, thank you! And I did make the music so now I feel extra special.

Shorter levels are a great idea. For some reason I was only considering the option of either adding more tires, or changing the potholes to adjust the difficulty. Again, thank you.

Submitted

I could use some more spare tires along the road since I fall into those potholes too often. I liked the game but could not complete it :(

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Just so I understand, you felt like there should have been more spare tires?

Submitted(+1)

Just as much as I need. So I can feel the joy of accomplishment and play your game again. ;) You can calculate if the player will be able to reach the finish line on time. You can customize difficulty for the player. It’s no use playing more if I lose one or two tires in the beginning.

Developer

That's a good point, I should have put more tires in the beginning so the player can get closer to the finish line each time. Great feedback, thank you!

Nice atmosphere! I love vintage style games. You could add more ostacles/levels, but it is pretty nice already. I found intriguing the fact that action goes towards the player's left..  it is very unusual and it felt fresh.
Great work! :)

Developer

I 100% agree, this is basically level 1, wish I had more time to make more levels with new obstacles. Gives me ideas for the future, thank you so much for taking the time to leave me feedback.

Really great game!! I have played a couple put hole themed games and honestly they seem to be the best work. the balance of speed and tires was great. The music wasn't annoying to listen to in a loop. Only thing I can even think of recommending is find a way for car engine noise to shift with the beat of the music cause it almost matches it and makes it nice on the ears :)

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

You have a good point, it was kind of an accident but I agree the car engine went weirdly well with the music, shouldn't be too hard to adjust the timing of the sound. Great feedback, thank you!

Of course that is what game jams are all about :P Also your game would make a fun mobile game since its a single button mechanic! Should look into that and I would totally play it :)

Submitted(+1)

Amazing work! I especially love the details you implemented when a tire goes out like how it veers and the tire that stepped in the hole popped not just any arbitrary tire. Great job all around!

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it, thank you for the kind words!

epiiiiiiiiiic it amaze me <3

good graphics ! and nice game design well done ^^

i rated ur game can u do the same !! and thx <3

Developer

Thanks! Will definitely check yours out soon.

not bad,  didnt expect that I would lose a wheel touching a pothole and lose alot of control on the first wheel lost.

Developer

Thank you, did you feel it was a good surprise or a bad surprise?

Submitted(+1)

Looks like our minds went to the same place when the theme was Holes, probably because we both live in the midwest xD Really liked the way that losing tires was reflected on the sprite/movement of the car! Would have been cool to have a bit more variety in the obstacles as you progressed further, but I still really liked it overall!

Developer

Hey fellow midwesterner! That's a good idea, 2 kinds of potholes is not a lot of variation. I'll keep that in mind for the next one, thank you for your feedback!

No worries, I'm glad you liked the gameplay. What about the music didn't you like? Too repetitive, annoying, genre?

The health system is well done that is both rewarding and punishing. The tense feeling of needing a new tire as the police number gets closer as a good amount of tension.

Developer

Wow, thats a lot of compliments. Thank you!

reminds me of home...  a lot of potholes on my street haha! cool game. very retro!

Developer(+1)

Well thats a better reaction than I could have hoped for. Any chance you're from Michigan lol.

Submitted(+1)

hahaha no i'm from Canada

Hello neighbor! It all makes sense now.

I had fun playing it . I liked that losing wheels affect the movement of the car . Great job :D

Developer

Thanks! Glad you liked that mechanic as much as I did.
