Loved this! Great job. It was fun to try to figure out what order to do stuff in. Would be cool to expand it to more powers and maybe make the people a little more resilient.

Woahhhhh! This game is insane for being done in 3 days. There's so much to do and so many things to make ahh I really liked playing. Great game!

Developer

Thanks a lot! Yeah, we overscoped pretty hard and got almost no sleep from Sunday to Monday, rushed it to the last minute.. ^^

This is a nice twist on city building games with a neat art style, good job :)

Developer

Thanks man, we're really happy you liked the game :)

That was a lot of fun! I thought the sound effects and visuals made killing the villagers really satisfying. I had a great time playing it, thanks!

Developer

Love to hear that! Thanks a lot for playing :)

Really cool game, can really see this as a fun way to burn some time online with maybe a few more features. Good job!!

Developer

Thanks, we're very happy you enjoyed our little game :)

First of all, I loved the settings option in the menu :D

As for the game, it's super entertaining, I loved watching the villagers and trying to figure out their behaviors and to adjust my acts of destruction accordingly. This could grow into a really interesting game if you keep working on it and add some more types of disasters, great job!

Developer

Thanks a lot! We are really happy that you enjoyed our little game! :)

This game has a great concept and was a lot of fun! I'm a fan of city builder games, so to take the opposite approach and actively destruct a city was interesting.

The levels are designed well and the difficulty ramps up at a nice pace. I like that each new power is introduced on a simple level, and its strength can be easily figured out without the need for a text explanation.  I particularly liked the last level, where I had to coordinate my three powers. It showed the game's potential as a strategic/puzzle game.

While playing the first few levels, I would have appreciated info being shown on what a building was when I moused over it. I wasn't sure what the function of the two fish-related buildings were. However, as I played more things made sense. I like that each different type of villager is distinguishable and doing some simple observation teaches you about their behavior.

I was a bit confused by the level of polish, because some things were really well done, like the character art, and some things could have been easily fixed, like the dialogue text.

With a bit of polish and additional sounds, you would have the base for a great game here. Good work! The potential buildings/powers you can add are seemingly endless. I would love to play more levels!

Developer

Wow, thanks a lot for a very detailed feedback! :D I agree, the game can use some explanations or introduction, we simply ran out of time :F Can I ask what do you mean by things that could be easily fixed in dialogues? You mean the poor writing (:D) or did you encounter some bug?

Thanks again!

When I typed this, by the dialogue I meant typos and grammar mistakes, but now that I've loaded the game and read the opening dialogue again I realize that it was purposefully done for Odin. I didn't realize that the first time, sorry! I think the rough speaking style paired with the "?!" left a messy impression on my mind. This is extremely nitpicky but I don't know if "!?" would be better or if it would just like neater with a simple "?" Line breaks after sentences and a bit wider text box to fit it all might help things look cleaner too.

Now that you mention it, the writing does feel pretty unnatural. For some reason I'm really hung up on Loki's use of "cannot" instead of "can't." This has devolved into excessive nitpicky-ness though.  Just in general, if you spend more time on the game I would suggest revisiting the dialogue scenes. Sorry for the confusion!

Developer

Haha, not a problem, thanks for clarification! Your concerns are totally valid, because:
1) English in not my native language (but that shouldn't be an excuse I guess, as I'm definitely not the only one :P)
2) The texts were written in the middle of the night in total rush, because deadline were getting closer and there were still so many things to do :D
So yeah, thanks for pointing that out, totally agree there is a room for improvement! :)

A very interesting one. I love this type of strategy games. Some critique:

  • A few levels in, I still can not get when the villagers start to starve. On the first level with poison, I had one villager left with some fish left in a couple of housings - like he had the food, but he died from starving because nobody brought it to the distribution place?
  • I liked the game feel. The music is not distracting, but keeps the atmosphere and focuses you on planning the destruction; the sounds are really enjoyable, I particularly liked this horn that notifies about the victory. However, I can't recall if the repairing of the buildings had any sound.
  • Sadly I couldn't really understand how the game is related to the topic. Like, you do destroy instead of building, but it's just an opposite goal in my humble opinion and not fully "failure is progress", because you don't fail in this game.
  • The second point on the game feel: the death of the villagers is so satisfying. First, you see the exclamation marks, and then you hear how they are simultaneously dying. Good job here.
  • I liked the art style of the actual game: undetailed artwork reminds me of old flash strategy games, for instance, Pre-Civilization: Marble Age and Kingdom Rush. On the other hand, the used color palette can be improved to be more pleasing - but I like that the design is not messy.

Very well done, buddy! This game has some potential that the fans of Pre-Civilization and Kingdom Rush and similar games can appreciate!

Thanks for a GREAT feedback! :)

  • Yeah, the villagers routine and needs systems turn out to be a little overcomplicated, thus it's hard to grasp solely from observing them. Their behaviours should be simpler to be more readable, easier to predict. The villagers always eat / drink when visiting the house, assuming fish and water is available there. Then they proceed with their routines, and it doesn't matter if fish will be delivered to the house a fraction of a second later, or he will carry fish as a fisherman - they can only eat when visiting the house. It's deterministic, but not clearl enough for the player I would guess.
  • We also fell in love with that horn sound, it's so majestic :D You are right, the sound layer can be extended by repairing (as you suggested), burning, extinguishing sounds to name a few. We simply ran out of time ^^
  • Yeah, we approach the topic in a way "their failure is your progress", so your job is to cause others to fail, bring failure to functioning village. You are not failing as a player, so I understand that one can not be convinced by this interpretation :)

Kingdom Rush, dayum, I totally forgot about this one! I put some serious hours into that thing years ago xD I'm really glad you liked the game and again, super-thanks for feedback! :)

The problem with the villagers is not that they are too complex on their own, it's just not clear if different skins mean different jobs or they're just variations of one villager. I could understand the hunger/thirst mechanic shortly after I started playing. The system is good, there should just be more introduction to each villager's role.

Developer

Yup, different skin is different job :) I agree, introduction is definitely the thing that is missing.

I really enjoyed your game. Love the concept and especially the chain reactions!

This was so much fun. I started and i couldn't stop playing. Awesome job, and you made it fairly challenging.

Developer

Super glad to hear it, thanks a lot for taking time to try it out! :D

I really enjoyed this. I felt like the best levels were the ones where I could start a chain reaction pretty quickly.

There were a few levels where I felt I just had to "wait out" the destruction, those werent as fun, unless I just missed the proper way to destroy the village.

Overall a fun experience.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for playing! Yeah, our intention was to have every level as a puzzle, where you have to think and find the solution (find the right chain reaction, as you said), and some levels turn out that way, and some not so much.. ^^ So definitely room for improvement in here! Glad you enjoyed it nevertheless, thanks again for feedback :)

This was great! The reverse city builder concept is a neat take on the theme, and the levels felt nicely challenging.

The fact that you squeezed in a little story is really impressive, although I have to say, this feels much more like Thor than Odin.

I was a little disappointed when I realised I could only use lightning on some buildings. It would be cool if you had more flexibility in how you used your powers.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one, and I'd love to see you develop it further.

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing! Yeah, you are right, our Odin ended up being "thorish" ^^ And I agree with you, it would be nice to have more ways of using powers, but we were just afraid that it would make game too easy, and there were no time for trying it out - so that's what we ended up for the jam. Also we didn't communicate very well which buildings are prone to lightning and which are not. One of our friends even thought it was a bug, that only some buildings can got fire ^^

Thanks again for playing and feedback! :)

The progression between the levels in this is really good. You've done a great job in introducing the routines of the AI and the building types. Using the powers is also satisfying. Would happily played more levels.

Developer

Yay, so happy to hear that, thanks a ton! :)

Wow, this game was really amazing! Very beautiful visuals, the gameplay is fun. I would like to see some timer on levels to compare my scores. Overall its very polished and fun game.

Developer

Thanks a lot for taking time to play and sharing feedback! You are right, timers would work :)
