One of the best takes on the theme and a really fun game to play!
Congratulations!
Loved your game ! Cute character animation, fun idea and very good implementation!
You bought me on "Please don't break the game" achivement )))
Great game, really cool concept. I really like the different little puzzles you came up with. I also like how you introduced the tools one after the other.
I'm not sure if I got to the end though, after level 4 I was back in the level select area and only had level 1 to choose. And then after beating level 2 again i got a grey screen and couldn't continue.
All in all really fun game, well done!
Thank you! I tried to gradually introduce different mechanics so it doesn't feel overwhelming from the start.
There was a bug that only occurred on the build of the game. I encountered it at the last minute and tried to fix it but apparently, it just lowered the chance of occurring. Still though super sad that you didn't get the ending! I will look into it.
Thanks again.
Playing an swiss army knife is pretty unique character choice and I love it!
I don't know if this was your goal but I get a total Portal/Aperture Science vibe from your game. The minimalistic 2.5D visuals work pretty well and I like that you added audio visual feedback to your character like the facial expression or the effects when jumping. It makes moving around the character feel good. Maybe check out this nice little Unity plugin "Feel". It could help you make the game feel even more responsive.
The color coding was also pretty helpful. Red means I can interact with it and it really stands out compared to the darker parts of level.
I liked the puzzle, like "Human verification puzzle", but I had a bit of trouble with the last one. I don't know what the correct way to solve it is but I managed to do it by somehow unfolding the knife while standing between two pillars which gave me a huge physics boost and helped me jump over the obstacle. This was nice because it made me feel like I outsmarted the puzzle. I also got the achievement when trying to break the game :D
With a proper swiss knife character and some polishing and of course more puzzle I could totally see this as a proper game.
Overall a pretty interesting take on the theme that works really well. Great job!
I wanted to try a different character this time and glad it worked out in the end!
Yes, I tried to create that kind of vibe with the minimalist design and I wanted to add a little bit of environmental storytelling but didn't have the time to do it. Still, I wanna improve it while keeping it clean as it is now. I heard about the Feel. Definitely adding little things that give feedback is super important and you can never get it enough!
I'm glad you liked the overall level design. As for the last puzzle I know not seeing the effect of your interactions made it a little frustrating for that level and have a few ideas to improve it. Even though that wasn't the intended solution I'm glad you experimented with the physics and that led to a feeling of outsmarting the puzzle. I tried to keep the puzzles short and not too hard for the jam but maybe I should design a few more levels with that feeling in mind.
I'm thinking of expanding the game more without breaking the consistency and level of polish it has.
Super happy that you liked it. Thank you!
Clever game that makes the best of the jam's limitation by taking them at face value. The sleek and minimalist design works entirely to the game's advantage; It has this Stanley Parable feel to it.
Just wished you had put the reset button on all puzzles (forklift will soft block you).
What I liked:
- Simple and effective concept around Swiss army knife (already saw in this jam but not like this)
- Readability. Colors are well used.
- Particles on knife.
- Puzzle designs are just what it need to discover the game.
- Good SFX, Ambient sounds and spatialized.
What could be improved :
- Not sure we need to rotate the knife as we want. Just 90° rotation will be enough.
- Some subtle music perhaps
- 0 key far from the other tools keys, I think that just hit again the 1 to close the knife for instance, or if you make 90° rotation, closed state could be a possible rotation.
Hope it helps.
Overall, that was fun too play, polished enough. Great game.
I tried to create a clean and polished game. I'm glad that it shows
- I wanted to keep the rotations free as it creates more possibilities for the puzzle design in the future
- I'll definitely look into this. At the moment I have a generic factory ambience but special music and ambience for each level could be good.
- Yes, it's like a temporary solution right now. I'm thinking of improving it when I add a better UI. Hopefully, it should be more frictionless that way.
Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it!
Thank you! It was my first time designing cohesive puzzles like this so I iterated over them a lot just to get the balance and the feel. I am happy that you liked it.
Yes, I actually had sparks sounds as well but it got irritating real quick as it's repetitive so I had to go with a calmer SFX for it.
I love the character and the way you used the various functions. I just really wish there were more to play, but what you do have is great!
Using a swiss army knife is just genious for the theme !
Loved the visual the character is very cute tha levels are very well designed & nice too look at.
The way you used the corkscrew is pretty smart also.
only little nick pick is you on teh last level you don't see the platforms you have to move when you go down to the buttons so if you didn't pay attention you ether have to restart the level or go all the way to the right.
Appart from that It's a very solid & well rounded game. great work :)
This fun and I loved the style of the 3D areas with the 2D gameplay. The puzzles were creative and it was really satisfying to rotate the different tools in order to click buttons or pull levers with simple but effective sounds. It was also a good use of color to show what the player can interact with. I don't have much for feedback but I think I cheesed the forklift puzzle by rotating my tools to clip through the floor a bit haha. Really great game and I'd say it was the perfect length for a game jam, hope you continue this in the future!
Hey, thank you for the feedback!
Glad you liked the puzzle design and polish. I didn't want to limit the player with tool movement which of course leads to a few funny moments with the physics like launching yourself up and clipping through the floor and I'm surprised that you didn't see the secret achievement that pops up when you clip through the floor.
Thanks again!
I really like the minimalist look and the puzzles are well put together! There's isn't even much to criticize in my opinion. Everything that's there is good and not much is missing. Maybe music but that's it.
This game is adorable! I like how you managed to make the character expressive even though it's just a little pill shape. Though simple, the game is pleasing to look at and the sound effects are great! Sometimes it was a little hard to tell which objects were in the foreground and which were in the background, and the character was wonky to control at times. I also really liked the puzzles!
Thank you for your feedback!
I'm aware of the contrast problem. I was going to add lights in some parts to highlight important elements and give more depth to the scene but didn't have time to experiment with it so I just left it out.
It was my first time designing puzzles like this so I'm super happy you liked them. Thanks again!
