Creative Vision / Rationale / How Did You Incorporate the Theme
Our creative vision explores generosity as a transformative force. Instead of material giving, we framed it as the hero’s selfless legacy, changing hearts across generations. Through the Demon King’s journey, we reveal how unseen acts of hope and kindness have healed the world, ultimately inspiring him to let go of vengeance. We incorporated the theme by showing how generosity in spirit can redeem even the darkest soul.

Very charming & at the same time melancholic vibes, very interesting story, I hope it gets continuation.
where to begin!...the pixel art is charming, the level design is thoughtful, the premise of the narrative is solid: a sealed demon king waking up to a world of peace and kindness but corruption is starting to seep into it again. i love the mind of the person who came up with the narrative; the dialogues had depth yet an irreverent sense of humour. a random character calling 'The Demon King' spoilt milk and wet sock. An old innocent lady saying to someone who used to be a dark force: 'help an old lady out, wontcha?'
The level design is also done with care - the way resources were placed; the way as a player, you understand the missions and progression intuitively without explicit instructions: what someone is willing to give is what the other one needs; how with trees, the first mission involved collecting logs but the same trees are placed in a way that it blocks paths - good thinking!
the rhythm game had a good level of polish to it when it came to UI, but i do think the gameplay experience could be improved - i have a feeling you guys have looked at it already; but Spiritfarer's rhythm games comes to mind; i think that will be a good reference point.
i think the last dialogue was a bit rushed because of time constraints? there is no way the demon king is that easily convinced! but i felt this way only because i was so invested!
very, very well done!
Loved the story of the demon king performing acts of kindness. The exit game button at the end didn't work for me though, so I had to alt+f4. Good and polished game overall!
hey it's Chris!
My experience with For When I'm Gone took me right back to the time I was addicted to Ragnarok Online. The music and visual style, along with UI/UX is so polished, so cohesive - absolutely the best thing. This is definitely a matter of personal taste, but I felt like the Demon King narrative, the minigames, the violin's total 180 music with the theme song didn't really mash up well together. Overall, you guys should really be proud for a 3 week jam effort!
I loved the story behind this game! Rhythm minigame for using the violin was such an interesting touch, and I would love to see more of this world someday!
Pleasing colors and animations. Using a “stringed instrument” to level the forest appears to be immensely effective. Do be careful about doing this near walls, as fallen logs which have moved inside become unretrievable.
I love to play and it has cool art and music!

I really love this game, the way that we interact with some objects like cutting trees and fishing is so creative, and also the music and art are amazing, keep it up!
I love the art. The author did not require credit but if anyone is interested part of it is freely available here: https://cainos.itch.io/pixel-art-top-down-basic
Yess some decorations are from that one pack ❤️
I absolutely love this game, it’s one of my favorites I’ve played! The pixel art is visually stunning, and I’m in love with the story and gameplay, especially the violin aspect, although I wish there was more variety to it. If you ever turn this into a full game, I’d snag it in a heartbeat! Fantastic work!
Thank you so much for the kind words! We glad that you enjoy it, we will add some new stuff after the game jam ends! ❤️
All of the art is absolutely stunning and really adds to the calm and magical vibe of the game!! I really enjoyed it and look forward to what you create next <3
It’s an absolutely amazing game, and I couldn’t find a word that truly describes how complete and well-made it is! 👏🔥
Can't believe game jam games can be this polished. I love the pixel art style!
And really impressive to me when the main character starts playing the violin ahhh.
So cool and cozy, and I feel warm after helping people. (Feels like I am Frieren, haha)
Really sweet polished experience! Love the colour palette and the UI design so much!
Very polished game!! I love the style! impressive
Art looks very good. Cant believe there's this much content and dialogue for the story, amazing work you guys!
Incredible game! Love the artstyle and the story is very engaging. The mechanic of cutting down trees is also firee (Although I did not feel good copping trees ahhaha even though I was doing it to make my way or help) ALSOOO the mechanism is really unique and peaceful, I do think you can make use of different sounds because I felt that was a little repetitive. But overall honestly, really well thought out game with engaging mechanics and beautiful artstyle. The level is also well made and interaction with characters is fun!
The pixel art style looks really good. The melancholic music fits well with the aesthetics. I also like the wind effect touch. This is the first game I have seen that uses rhythm-based mechanic for fishing and chopping trees, I think that's something that is either people love it or hate it, a niche preference.
Thanks for sharing!
I like the world – it feels vast but not empty. The art style is very coherent and the music is serene. Most things feel very polished. Good job!
My biggest complaint is about the violin – the mini game is repetitive, and doesn’t feel great to play. The wait time at the start is long and hit detection is a bit strict or unintuitive.
Overall, very solid game.
