How does your game fit the theme?
I was inspired by the word Start to build a game focused on the humble Start button present in many operating systems.

Haha damn, this was fun! Very creative idea and good execution as well. A high score screen would maybe have been a fun addition?
Thank you, there is a highscore screen linked to a live online leaderboard. You can view it by opening the notepad shortcut on the desktop of the game
Oh I did not notice that lol, great feature!
Interesting, funny and hard for me game, but I like it. 10 errors of 10
I would appreciate it if you rated our game
I got to shoot at Bonzi and that makes this game really good for my taste. In all honesty, really good game. I liked how you used the windows 95 interface for the artstyle and maybe should have doubled down with a more vapor-wave soundtrack since the aesthetic of old windows is part of the style of the genre but just an idea. I was waiting to find a bullet hell and you delivered, maybe some things are hard to distinguish, for example the folders from warning projectiles, but that's the only improvement option I can think of.
Amazing job on the visuals and the creativity as the game looks like I'm playing on an old window 95 computer. I had a lot of fun with it even though I'm not very good at bullet hell games lol.
Thank you so much,I'm glad you liked the aesthetic and the gameplay
This is EXCELLENT. I'm glad to see other people using the idea of getting their computer started. I was considering using a CRT monitor filter like in your game, it looks amazing in yours! The powerups were creative and appropriately themed, Bonzi buddy jumpscared me, and the music is good. The UI, especially, is creative, simple, and effective. My favorite game so far!
Ah thank you so much, I must definitely give your game a try when I get a chance! Thank you, I just whipped up a filter quickly using the Unity post processing system, I'm glad it helped convey the vibe of the game. Thank you for the kind words, saying it was your favorite honestly means so much. Stay tuned, as I plan to continue working on it in the future and release some updates to improve the experience.
Man, some flashbacks. A little too bullet hell'y for me but I can see how it would be someone's fave.
Thank you so much ๐
Lovely little game with a creative asthetic. I played a lot of Desktop Surviours 98, and this was like a nice small version fo that
Thank you for the kind words ๐
Loved every second of it, soundtrack and reference were on point !
Just wished the cursor was a bit more visible :)
Thank you for the feedback, yeah I need to figure out why the cursor size changed so drastically from the editor version to the build version.
I love bullet hells and this one definitely scratches that itch for me! The aesthetic is especially strong and the sound effects also brought me back in time! I'm not sure if it was just me, but the movement felt a bit off at times, like I would stop my movement but the player would still move a bit before stopping. Also if the spawns could be a bit more forgiving as there were a few times that an enemy spawned directly on me and took a great chunk of my health. Otherwise, it was a very fun game! (And not to flex but I got the high score haha)
Thank you for the feedback, I'm glad you liked it. I will definitely look into the movement as you suggested and see how it can be refined. I am currently designing a spawn indicator system to allow players the time to react to where enemies are spawning in, which will hopefully make it a bit more forgiving. I'm glad people are enjoying and engaging with the high score system.
Really liked the old windows look and the game over screen. Very nice game!
Thank you very much
That was fun. it's a bit fun but I really like the Powerups.
Thank you, any power ups you'd like to see in future versions?
Fun: good, a bit difficult, I like the abilities like the safe mode or the bigger arrows
presentation: really like the old computer style, very nostalgic,
creativity: good idea, starting the operating system, and the enemies are good
Thank you, my next goal will be reworking the difficulty curve of the game
I would love for you to try my game and rate it, I'm sure you're gonna like it ๐
I'll definitely give it a go later today
Love the art and the environment of the game, I just needed a volume settings, the music was really loud in my end. Gameplay is really challengind, I love this 2D games where you need to pay attention to every pixel to dodge and survive, really great choice on that.
Art/Visuals is a banger. Awesome choice on that a 1990s computers vibe fits perfect with this theme and makes you game unique, I have seen other games with the same idea but I feel that the assets and soud effects makes the difference and your game did it!
Sound is something that I felt it was good but too loud, the error sound was making me crazy because I was getting hit a lot and this sound is always loud.
Overall nice work, your game is really fun to play and I like it that even though there are similar games, you could make your be unique with visuals and sound, nice job!
Thank you, I want to add a settings panel that pops up from the bottom left of the taskbar, just like on the 98 OS, just ran out of time for the jam
Love the quick pacing of a single session and that you get straight to the action.
The movement controls feel a bit of, and did you purposefully not normalize the movement vector or was it intended to have the diagonal movement (w + a) be faster than vertical or horizontal?
I like the win98 aesthetics - a blast from the past.
Thank you, I thought I had normalized my movement vector, but it may have slipped my mind in the rush of the jam, will definitely be something to fix for future versions.
fun game, a bit difficult and controls can feel a bit awkward but overall quite fun. played a few attempts and got to 1900 feel like that was good enough
Thank you, that's a pretty good score, did you make it to the top 10?
what do you mean by top 10?nevermind I see it now, I was 6th. Just got 1st now
Quite fun and enjoyable. The death screen was a little mean though ;-;
Thank you, sorry for the meanness, I wanted it to feel like the OS is purposefully rebelling and antagonizing the player
I am not good enough lol~ cool concept! got me stressing over the spawning;v;
Thank you, I'm gonna work on some sort of spawn indicators or predictability.
Love your windows theme! The sfx match perfectly with the vibe, the enemies being different things like folders and errors was creative, and the high score list is a nice touch . A few things:
Overall, very cool concept. Great job!
Thanks for the feedback ๐
The character should be capable of 8-direction continuous movement based on pressing the WASD keys in combination for a free movement. Could you perhaps elaborate how the movement felt grid like for you.
I'm currently trying to optimise the game more which should help with delays in input, browser based games notoriously don't have amazing performance ๐
Thanks, I'll look into it.
Thank you for the feedback
I freakin love the windows 98 aesthetic. The sound effects are crisp. The enemy varieties are great but maybe make the bigger ones as elite enemies and spawn once in a while. Gameplay reminds me of a simpler version of desktop survivors 98. I think if the gameplay has proper pacing, it would be a fun casual bullet hell.
Thank you for your feedback, and I'm glad you liked it. I'm currently working on the balancing and difficulty ramp-up of the gameplay.
too hard man, i couldn't survive 1 min, but nice idea.
Thanks, difficulty scaling is something I plan on working on more in the future
