Nice prototype ! Adding scrolling to the bricks definnetly add something to the game. :)

That's an interesting idea taking advantage of modern technology to have the bricks scroll smoothly. I found the paddle deflection rules confusing. Normally in a game like this, hitting the ball with the end of the paddle makes the ball go at a low angle in the direction of that end of the paddle. In your game, doing that sometimes reverses the direction of the ball and sometimes it just makes the ball keep going as though I hit it with the middle of the paddle. I do wish there were sound. Even a very simple and generic sound clip from one of the free sound sites out there would have made the blocks feel a little more... "solid?" and improve the experience noticeably. But everything else seems to work pretty well, so good job!

Also, if you haven't already, could you please rate my team's game? I'd much appreciate it.

Infinite Breakout! That's fun. This is a very cool concept for a game, and I'd be interested in seeing the concept developed further. A little more audiovisual feedback would be nice (sounds effect in general), but it's fair for being just a prototype.

Neat entry! I included it in my Palette Jam 2 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

Not moving the tiles down in the first bit of the game was really smart, it makes it all the more surprising when they start going down. A well-rounded version of a classic game, good job. It could have used some sound though, and the heart might not be the best icon to show that mechanics, it's a bit misleading.

very clean aesthetic, the multiple balls got somewhat overwhelming, but maybe I'm just bad at the game 😅

could really do with some audio

A well made version of classic breakout with some added pressure.

PROS:

  • Visual design is nice and clean, follows the palette limitations well, and serves the gameplay very well.
  • Encountered a trapped ball and managed to free it for multi-ball so that felt really rewarding for having focused targets.
  • Multiple health points does allow for some balance capability if players tend to fall behind so that feels like a good mechanic to have in play for balance tweaking.

CRITIQUES:

  • It was a little confusing at first what having 3 hearts meant: I initially thought it was associated with being able to drop the ball 3 times and didn't notice the heart counter go down when I let a row of blocks slip through. Something like pulsing the counter and flashing it a different color when it went down would draw more attention to it when it was affected and help give players the association that's intended.
  • It feels like the pacing of the block movement would be tricky to balance, but it would be interesting if you could embellish the moments when players are about to take damage from a row of blocks reaching the bottom. Stuff like adding a dramatic music riff with a stinger, make the row of blocks that are about to damage the player wiggle in place or pop into a particle explosion when they deal the damage to just really sell the moment. You could also "slow time" if a row is about to deal damage just to give players a tiny bit more control of their own fate in the moments of their impending peril.

Pretty good take on brick breaker! I was expecting it to just be a breakout clone but then the bricks started moving towards me. Caught me off guard but in a really good way.

The ball exhibits some weird behavior if it touches the side of the paddle or a couple bricks at once. Not really game breaking but still pretty noticeable.

I like the scrolling blocks that come at you, seems like a good way to make a calm game more interesting!

A clear and well-known concept, but well mastered, which offers a pleasant game here. The addition of music and sounds would have been a big plus, but nothing else to say. The surprise to see the level go down to the Puzzle-Bubble was nice and suddenly changed the priority of the bricks to be broken. It was fun to play ^_^

I would have loved to add sound and more mechanics, but school took up all my time :/ . I'll continue working on the game to further improve it though, thanks for the feedback!

School is probably one of the best reasons to not have had time enough to add some audio in your game. You've already made a good job with this project : now, take the time to make it a great game (with good audio ^^). Again, congratulations for this gamejam's project.
