very overwhelming for a non-rythm game player, 16 moves might be a bit much but very pretty

Developer(+1)

Well, the game is meant to be hard. ^^but sorry you felt that way :/

This is fun! The music is good, which is great for this kind of game, and I love the graphical style. The palette limitation is pretty strict, but I think you've made the most out of it. It just feels really cohesive.

I have to agree with the previous commenters in that the difficulty might be a bit much, especially if you're not super used to rhythm games. Four lanes with four possible moves each is a lot to throw at the player all at once, especially since you also have to time the button presses correctly. It's easier to manage on a gamepad than on the keyboard, but even then it's a lot. Reducing the number of lanes or making it easier to move left and right would help a lot, maybe with something like a progression mechanic added (where you start with one lane and lanes are added/removed depending on your combo multiplier.) But either way, you have an extremely solid base for a game here.

Also, breakdance is a fun way to use the theme. Very much unexpected, but fits well.

Developer

Thanks a lot :)

That's a neat idea. might try that after the jam.

Thanks for the feedbacks :)

I think, not only pressing the right button at the right time, but als switching to the correct lane is a great idea. But I agree with wChi: Switching lines with left and right would work much better for the game.
Maybe for hardcore-rhythm-game-players your control choise is more interesting. But game jam games shouldn't have a too high difficulty level, to be als attrative to player that are not so much into a particular genre.

Apart from that, you made a good job. The art work is good, the music great, the gameplay fun. Keep up the good work.

Thanks a lot :)

What a challenging game! I included it in my Palette Jam 2 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

fun game i enjoyed the art style a lot but struggled with the controls a little although it may just take getting some used to as i played with mouse and keyboard. overall i enjoyed the game and the unique style of it

Developer

Thanks !

True, It does take a little while before getting used to the controls ^^
Glad you enjoyed it :)

To preface - I'm not very good at rhythm games, but the art style was enchanting and I had fun playing with my friends and watching the dance animations.

Having to control both the arrows keys and WASD* does make it a unique game in the genre, but it got pretty overwhelming pretty quickly - still, you all did a great job making a bug-free and funky fresh game.

*(In all fairness, a controller was highly recommended, but we didn't have any!)

Developer(+1)

Thanks :)

The controls are indeed more intuitive with a controller. ^^
Glad you enjoyed it :)

Awesome game! I had fun playing even if I'm not good with rhythm games. The keyboard controls do take while for you to get used to and game is still difficult even on the easiest mode, but it was fun to play.

Developer

Thanks ! Glad you had fun :)

Original twist on the theme ! I don't have rhythme so I wasnt great but I love the idea and the art ! Great job , also the addition of 2 players is a nice addition

It looks great and I wanted to play because I'm a sucker for rhythm games. I do think that the gameplay is more frustrating than fun. I think it would work better if you'd simply just switch using left and right.

Developer

Hey ! Sorry you felt frustrated by the controls. :/
I believe switching rows with left & right would have made the game too easy & remove some interest to it. But I understand if you didn't like it.

Thank you for playing. Hope you still managed to have a bit of fun with it.

Stunning Graphics with the limited palette available and great music and sound. I sadly couldn't play with with a controller and my brain could never figure out the controls even on the easiest difficulty. Perhaps just having the columns match the keys directly next to each other on a keyboard would have helped. E.g. ASDF and HJKL on an qwerty keyboard.

Hey ! Thanks for the feedbacks :)
I actually though about using keys in line for the rows but discarded it since the player using a controller would have been a bit at a disadventage  in the versus mode. But I might make it an option after the jam.  And the current mapping become manageable after a bit of practice but I agree it takes a bit of getting used to. :)

Hope you managed to have fun with it :)

I did have fun, but after 3 times and only managing to get half the points of the easiest AI I did give up.

I really like Rhythm games, the graphics are well thought and i like the musics.
As said before, it takes a while to get used to two inputs to make a move, but when that happens it actually becomes really fun!

Thanks ! Glad you liked it :)

Nice art and music, and  a big fan of the menus and transitions.
As a fan of rhythm games, i find this a really fun take on input, takes a bit of getting used to, but the difficulty slider really helped with practice.

Developer

Thanks a lot ! Glad you liked it. :)

Pretty good game! The twist on the standard DDR format by having to input two different directions is pretty interesting although most of the time it just led to me accidentally inputting things on the wrong hand. The art and music are nice and compliment the game theme pretty well.

The notes are a bit off and don't match up well to the music though. I ended up mostly relying on visuals which isn't really supposed to happen in a rhythm game

Developer

Thanks a lot ! :)

The controls do take a little use to. they are more intuitive with a controller (if you get the chance to try with one)

Some of the notes sequence are a bit off, that's true, I missed a bit of time to polish that :/

Thanks for the feedbacks :)
