Very cool game! A little difficult for me (I'm bad) but fun to play! Flacer's graphics and animation are amazing :).

100% authentic - if you told me you uploaded a long-lost NES ROM I'd believe you! Everything right down to the feel of the jumps is perfect. Those insects sound like they're screaming in agony for sure.
Love the feel of this one. The start screen has the perfect feel and the controls very authentic. :D
very authentic game! just a few gripes - the audio is super loud, especially the sound effects. i had to mute them sadly. and the second is the default control map of arrow keys + xz, which is awful on qwertz keyboard with shrunk up/down arrows. wasd is bearable though. overall pretty good though, even if it may not cater to my tastes. well done.
At parts during development I kinda worried about the sound volume, though didn't think about it too much bcuz I turned the volume of my computer down. What is your computer's default volume? Also this is the first time I find out that there is a keyboard that has Z on a completely different placement lol
Ooooooh, very nice submission. All round awesome. A few of the details that I loved
- The limitation of 3 jumping directions with set distances that cant be further influenced by d-pad movement after hitting the initial input.
- The punishments for trying to play the game like a modern platformer. Trying to do the smooth thing will send you off ledges, missing jumps due to not calculating before jumping.
Really awesome stuff. Top notch. keep up the good work fellas!
Awesomeee! The NES-difficulty really shines through, and I could see fans of retro games appreciating that authenticity. The requirement to get 100% to clear the stage was an interesting choice; while it does add a layer of challenge, I felt that just reaching the top would have been a satisfying objective on its own. The gameplay and level layout was quite engaging, but I found that having to hit every single gear slowed me down a bit. The platforming elements, like dodging and jumping, were the most fun part for me. As you'll see it wasn't until my first run's end that I discovered the whip attack.
Visually, the game looked great! The graphics were spot-on, and the music and sound effects were well done, though the whip sound effect stood out as louder and more intense compared to the others. There was some audio doubling with the jump sounds too. Overall, I had a good time with my run, and there's a lot of promise here! Fantastic work!
It totally looks and feels like I'm playing a game released on the NES. Best NES vibe in the whole game jam. The character control is a bit cumbersome, but that's exactly how I remember NES games – slightly frustrating. :)
I loved this game!
The characters are fun and the gameplay is very like early NES games like Donkey Kong.
But I found a bug on stage 2 and got stuck between these 2 rollers in the corners of the screen (the collider fell a little bit and I couldn´t move and had to wait until the timer ended)...
Great game! One of the most authentic to NES feeling games I've tried so far in the jam.
That one part across the chains with the beetle was so rude, I almost gave up on my ability to get further, but I managed to get through somehow! (not even gonna talk about the difficulty in level 3)
Movement was stiff in all the ways that I'm glad most modern platformers avoid, but perfectly encompassed that classic arcade-y vibe. Whipping felt snappy and satisfying to defeat enemies and activate gears with.
I do wish it came with a way to pause, as sometimes I felt myself wanting to take a break between attempts, but the timer is pretty tight in stage 2 especially to step away from. The death audio for enemies was a bit shrill and could maybe have been toned down a little.
All in all though, really well done!
I did manage that while experimenting with the controls, but it felt a bit too tough with the timing for me to get consistently, and with all the climbing back you have to do if you fall, I didn't want to risk the time loss.
By climbing to the very top, of the previous chain and timing it right, I found enough space to squeeze by it, which given the very purposeful feel to the previous chain lengths I imagine it was set up so to do just that as well. So kudos to having multiple solutions to puzzle around it based on personal preferences and strengths
Fantastic game. I would only change 1 thing, have the difficulty start lower. while high difficulty is perfectly fine. the difficulty should start low, and ramp up gradually. I gave it a 5/5 on everything except for gameplay which is 4/5. Excellent job
Neat game, feels very early NES game. I have some annoyances with the physics and controls, but they really are annoyances that a lot of NES games have so in that sense it feels perfect lol. Game looks and sounds very accurate, though I do not like the sound enemies dying makes. Only thing missing that this type of games would usually have is getting an extra life after a certain amount of points.
