the color of the monsters should really match the color of the action they're taking. I get that that they can potentially pick a different action if you pick the same one as they do but it wouldn't be difficult to recolor them dependent on which action they took. Otherwise, the player has to purposely ignore your monster artwork and focus on the dots at the top of the screen.

Thanks for playing! I watched your review and I'm glad you were honest about how you felt about the game.

I do agree that my decision to couple the rock, paper, scissors action of the enemy to red, blue or green, and then not being consistent about that with the enemy's color would cause confusion, I never really thought of that. Your comments really got me thinking about how I could visualise the enemy's actions in a way that's, as you said, not just Simon. :)

The game was never really meant to be that much of a roguelike, I just wanted to make a fun little experience where you play rock, paper, scissors. In a jam where making a roguelike is the theme, I can understand the low score.

Thanks much for the feedback!

I really like the concept of using rock-paper-scissors as a method for doing battle. I felt this game was pretty solid overall, and I really liked that it saves/resumes your progress when reloading. I only had to refresh once, game got hung up post-battle at the "press any key" prompt. Overall this has a nice basis if you ever wanted to expand on the idea. Nice work!

Thanks for enjoying the game! Sorry to hear you had a softlock, it's a good thing the game saves your data then indeed hahaha

Nice game, I ilke the concept of reviving such an old game as rock paper scissors.

I like the visuals very attention grabbing for me. REALLY nice use of signs and feedback love it, the sound design and the characters zooms in and out and the music simply SELLS this rock paper scissors game. This may not be the most "Impressive" game content wise in the jam but it is easily one of the entries I had the most fun with.

Short rememberable fun.

Great work.

Developer

Thanks much! For this game I definitely tried to have a small, but strong gameplay loop with how fast-paced the rock, paper, scissors is. Thanks for enjoying the game!

Once I got the hang of it, this game was really fun. I would love to see some more RPG elements thrown into it or some kind of progression element. Highest score feature is a nice touch.

I think this game is awesome and has a ton of polish for the time limit. Good job!

Developer

Hey thanks for playing! If the game were to be expanded I think it would be a good idea to add some depth to the main gameplay, maybe something like different patterns for enemies, upgrades and whatnot.

Thanks for streaming the game too!

This game... is so pretty! The art is adorable haha. Everything from the title screen to the in-game characters and UI really fit together and hold a consistent sense of tone.

As for gameplay, I didn't know you could make rock, paper, scissors be funny and exciting, but here we are. Everything comes together really nicely - from the ridiculous premise of nuns fighting monsters, to the dialogue that naturally teaches the controls, and all the SFX that take place during combat.

I also love that you can speak with the nun. I spent some time just exhausting her dialogue, because I was still just absorbing how great the premise is, and she really helped to set the scene and immerse the play in the situation... and make me a bit needy for some tea.

I think the game did because pretty easy and even muscle memory once I realized that all I had to do was press the button to the "right" of whichever one the enemy had highlighted. It might feel more dynamic if the button colors were swapped above, which would force players to pay more attention.

If I could offer one major feedback, it would be to export a web version. Since this was made in Unity, it should be possible (with some bug testing). I think you'd get a lot more plays that way, and this game definitely should tried more.

Great work! This game had a lot of charm. I wish it was expanded somehow in the future - had more mechanics, more characters, more dialogue - in a way that kept true to its core yet still introduced more things. Maybe bosses or enemy types with unique mechanics... as ridiculous as that may sound. Regardless, I really enjoyed my time with this one.

Wow, thanks for the review! I'm glad to hear you had a good time playing the game! It's good to hear that you enjoyed the premise and art :)

I do agree that having a web version makes the game more accessible, I had originally wanted to make a web version, but every time I would test it, the game would not pick up on your inputs for one reason or another. After trying to fix that late into the night I decided to give up on it for this particular project. WebGL truly is the bane of my existence.

Thanks for playing the game!

- Update on the web build: after your comment I decided to try to build the web version and managed to fix the issue, so thanks for pushing me to try again!

That's great to hear! Congrats on breaking through the bugs!

It's fun, cute and has a cool concept. Good job!

interesting concept for a game

Submitted

Looks cool and cute, the gameplay is dynamic. Only softlock interferes, but that won't stop me.

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! Could you tell me more about the softlock you are experiencing?

Submitted

After the first retreat, if you start a battle then the game starts ignoring the player's input. (Еxcept for the three buttons, but they only change their tint)

Developer(+1)

Many thanks for the report! I manager to fix it and a previous bug where one couldn't exit from the title screen by pressing escape. The patch should be available for download in a bit. :)

I can’t get past the first dialogue screen… The Nun says “Oh hi there! Thank heavens you have arrived safely.” and nothing I press makes the game progress

Developer

That's very strange, I can't seem to replicate the issue. Are you sure the window was active as you were pressing the buttons?

Submitted

Yeah it’s definitely active but cannot get past the first dialogue… I have tried deleting and redownloading but had no luck

Developer

I have no clue what's causing the issue nor do I have any idea on how to fix it. Sorry about that.

The game looks incredibly cute and i really like it for that.

The gameplay in relation to the rest of the game is also quite creative.

But this isn't exactly what I'd call a roguelike... :<

Developer

Yep, you're right. It's much less a roguelike and more like an arcade game. However, I think I did implement some characterteristics of what makes a roguelike (Things like the player restarting from the beginning).

Nevertheless, thanks for playing! :)
