Did you work in a team?
Yes, we had two members, one artist and one programmer/ musician. It was super fun, especially seeing how fast a game can come together when you're not trying to make detailed 3D models or textures and focus on the gameplay first.
Was the resolution a challenge?
Definitely, getting the plants to be recognizable as well as proper walking animations for the character was tricky.
What did you learn?
I learned a lot about making pixel art games in Godot, as well as designing more simulation-like games rather than classic arcade/ shooting type games. A lot of new nodes and systems from the Godot Engine as well. I think it will help me be faster in getting to a playable state for new game projects as well as allow me to make fancier looking pixel games with reflections, shaders, particles, dynamic time of day etc.
Our artist also learned a lot about pixel art - shading and how to make things look good at such a low resolution.

Congratulations on making this game !
I've played your game during a live that you can watch here :
The live is timestamped so you can go directly to your game.
I hope the feedback and live reactions will be useful. Keep it up !
Thank you! That's really cool. Also some very helpful feedback, we'll work on a proper tutorial in the next time and clarify some of the mechanics. Also good point about the controls layout, I'll add some alternative buttons like A to pick up etc.
My pleasure !
Very cute. The graphics are very pleasant and the music fits the tone of the game well. It's impressive just how much detail you managed to fit into the small resolution. All the items are distinct and there's a nice variety of them. The farming mechanics seem quite well fleshed out and I enjoyed growing stuff while fighting off the pesky snails.
Unfortunately, I struggled getting the recipes to work. I think I got a guest to accept my food one time, but the rest just rejected whatever I gave to them even though I thought I had what they wanted. One thing that would really help is some indication of what is in the pot and whether it's cooked properly or not.
Thank you! That's actually quite helpful. I think when the guest check the recipes there is a bug that makes the order of ingredients relevant. I'll patch that after the review period is over.
There is also a bug that spawns way too many snails btw 😅
Great game!
I created a challenge: play two copies of the game at the same time.
Thank you! That's actually a very interesting challenge, we might make a two player mode at some point. Controlling both players in one game at once could also be interesting ^^
Nice to see another gardening simulator in the jam. Great work!
Really cool art. Effects are really nice even with this small resolution. Also very impressive how you made this small farming game with the resolution limitation. Good job!
Fun game. Little confusing at first but got it under control pretty quick. Arts cute. Sounds were good too. You managed to fit a lot of gameplay elements in such. short span of time.
Thank you! That means a lot :)
Cool little game! I'll be honest, I couldn't really figure out what I was doing and I didn't have the patience to experiment too much. The graphics are nice although hard to tell what's what sometimes. I liked a lot of the visual effects used though. I liked the music except that the instruments used were very high pitched and piercing.
With a bit of polish and a bit more clear direction on how things work and what to do in game, I could see this being a cool little game! Nice work to both of you!
Cool little game! The mechanics took me a while to grasp, but it was fun to play around with things and see how they work.
Nice game, art is maybe a bit noisy and hard to read at some points. Tile selection is a bit too greedy and targets full next tile (position+fixed size) which makes for a “long” distance once moving into the next tile that gets shorter until you hit the next tile (kind of jumpy…) and I might maybe have gone for mid-tile checks to balance that distance a bit better. Music can be a bit too loud… a lower volume for the same tune probably will not be as intrusive. Did not get too far, and did not figure out how to interact with the stores… Anyway, still a good concept, requiring some polishing, but is a very good starting point!
Hi, the jumpy tile selection was bugging me as well but I didn't come up with a solution in time. Can you go into a bit more detail on the mid-tile checks and how they would be implemented? Imo this could make the game interactions feel more precise.
My guess is that you are calculating which tile you are on and selecting the next tile (from the behaviour) so you take your x and your y, divide by tile width or height and add 1 full tile (or take one if looking up or left)… Maybe I am just wild guessing, but that sounds like it… and I think your control point for the sprite is in the center, not one corner.
One think you could try is check against the corner that is opposite to the movement direction and that will make you be halfway into the tile before jumping into the next (well check 1 px off the exact corner or you will hit your current tile when fully tile aligned), That’s what came to my mind when I wrote the comment. Not sure if that will help/fix your issue though.
No one ever wants escargot when I have the perfect ingredient >:) lovely game! and your game page is so good :)
This is cute! I love a good farming game. I like that you had objectives with the recipes, and the fire-plant mechanics are funky. I don't like snails any more :P
Thanks! I left some debugging code for the snails in on accident, which meant that our limit of max one snail on the screen at a time wasn't working for the final jam version :(
