Love the overall style and presentation of Poker Tower (though the music, albeit nice, feels a little inconsistent with the rest of the aesthetic). Wasn't quite sure what the game loop was other than trying to construct the best poker hand and seeing how many points it would give you. Ended up at floor four where after doing so, new cards didn't spawn, and playing the remaining three cards led to a loss condition, which was a hard reset to floor one.
Much praise to be given to the amazing art, animations, and logic programming of this card game. Nice work team!
wow great going with the thumbnail
This was great to play. The pixel art really tied everything together and I found myself constantly replaying to try and get the highest tower possible!
I started with a strategy of just getting enough points with as few cards as possible by checking what was in my deck against what the scoring view showed and discarding down till I had just the cards I needed. That worked till I think floor 5 when I could no longer view what was in my deck. Not sure that is a desired way to play the game, but also after I could no longer view my deck I felt very blind as to what to try and go for. Also I would have liked the cards scaling up a bit when you hover over in the scoring view as the pixels sometimes made me unsure if the suits could be different or not (coming from 0 poker knowledge)
Over all really well polished and thought out game!
Nailed it on the aesthetics. The music is perfectly chill, and the pixel art animations are great. The effect of the cards burning up is especially cool. Controls are simple and intuitive, and the game mechanics are solid. I could see myself just losing hours going at runs on this. Only bit that wasn't quite clear was the discard mechanic. I couldn't tell whether discarded cards were being burned up or returned to the deck. But that's really the only flaw I could find with this! Great job!
Thank you! Happy you liked the aesthetics, music, animation and the card-burning effect! Really appreciate the detailed feedback!
If you have any additional feedback to improve the game, we're all ears.
Beautiful game. I'm another poker noob, so the scoring info was a very useful inclusion! I only reached floor 4 but had fun getting there and enjoyed the chill vibes along the way.
Thanks a lot! Floors 4 -7 are pretty typical for first-time playthroughs. I’m happy you had fun and enjoyed the chill vibes along the way!
Really charming art style and felt good to control!
Thanks a ton! Glad you dug the art and controls!
I loved the aesthetics of this game,
Unfortunately I've never played poker, so I couldn't get much further by randomly selecting cards 😅
But I see that you did a great job with the setting, interface, scene, animations/shaders, etc.
One of the most polished games I've seen in this jam! ♣
Had lots of fun making Poker hands, the gameplay loop and audio/visual effects were very satisfying. Well done!
Thrilled to hear that you had fun. Happy to hear the gameplay loop and audio/visual effects were satisfying.
Thanks again, if you have any further feedback please feel free to let us know.
For a long time I've not felt that relaxed playing any game. Got to the 12th level. Thanks!
Thanks! You might have found a bug. Once you beat the 10th level, the victory screen should have shown up.
As a huge Balatro fan I liked your game a lot. chill and relaxed vibe and very beautiful Artwork. Got to floor 7. Really enjoyed your game :)
Thank you so much for the kind words and for playing the game! I'm thrilled you enjoyed it, especially as a fan of Balatro. Reaching floor 7 is a solid first run! I’m also glad the vibe and artwork resonated with you. Your feedback means a lot, and I hope you continue to have fun with it!
Additional feedback is always welcome. <3
Fun Balatro-like game! Nice and polished, game was very smooth. Well done!
I'm really happy to hear you enjoyed the game and found it polished and smooth.
Your kind words mean a lot—thanks for playing and for the encouraging feedback! If you have further feedback on how to polish it even more, we'd appreciate it if you took the time to let us know.
I had alot of fun playing. Very similar to Balatro. Did run into a few bugs where I couldn't select a 4th or 5th card to add to my played hand for some reason. Great submission!
Thank you so much for playing and for the feedback! I'm glad to hear you had fun, and I appreciate you letting me know about the card selection bug. We'll definitely look into that. I'm happy you enjoyed the experience overall!
Further feedback on where we could improve is always welcome. <3
A solid balatro-like. Gameplay is straightforward enough to enjoy. No problem with controls either.
I'm glad you found the gameplay enjoyable and had no issues with the controls—that's great to hear. We appreciate you taking the time to play and share your thoughts!
The vibes are chill and the UX is polished smooth. The pixel art is outstanding.
I lost an attempt and in the next my hand had lots of blank spaces between cards, not sure what was up with that.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the vibes and appreciated the pixel art. I really appreciate you pointing out the issue with the blank spaces in your hand—we'll investigate that and I believe it might have to do with how we're sorting.
Appreciate the feedback. Should you have any further feedback on areas of improvement please don't shy away.
Ran into a bug where I could not view my deck. Other than that very clean and fun.
Thank you so much for playing. I’m glad you found the game clean and fun.
I appreciate you pointing out the deck-viewing bug—I’ll look into that and work on a fix.
Your input helps make the game better, and we're grateful you took the time to share it! If you have any further feedback please feel free to drop it as a comment.
gameplay is fun enough, but unfortunately not very original. the pinup asset you put in the thumbnail is pretty clickbaity ngl. ui is mad clean tho
Thank you for your honest feedback—I appreciate it. I'm glad you enjoyed the gameplay and liked the clean UI. I hear you on the originality and the thumbnail.
We'll definitely take your comments into consideration for future updates to make things more unique as we prepare to launch on Steam.
I really enjoyed this game, probably my favorite of the jam I’ve played so far.
Thank you so much! I’m thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the game, and it’s awesome to know it’s one of your favorites from the jam.
Your feedback means a lot. If you have any areas for improvement please feel free to chime in with them.
Interesting take on the genre. A simple approach to the Balatro-like. Presentation is OK, but man... the UX is just *chef's kiss*. Props.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the take on the genre, and it’s awesome to hear that the UX stood out to you—your chef's kiss comment made our day! 😊
Thanks again for playing. If you have any suggestions for improving the presentation, we'd appreciate the feedback.
Made a 5 flush of a kind with an ace and 4 wildcards. Cool idea and very well executed, but seems impossible on 7 and higher floors.
Thanks for playing and the feedback! It’s definitely possible to beat all 10 floors, but it can be tough. Try experimenting with different strategies for the wildcards — you’ve got this!
