In one word: Beautiful! Really dig the puzzles spanning over multiple screens. :) Would benefit greatly from resetting you just to the last safe state instead of the beginning of the level, though. But it's understandable that you didn't get that covered in a game jam! Were you in any way inspired by "SCHiM" or is this completely unrelated?
Normally it does reset you to the last safe state (which is the shadow puddle!) I know we had some issues with coding the checkpoint as some people pointed out in the comments the camera would sometimes pan back out of screen unfortunately!
We were not inspired by SCHiM in any way, but I'd love to give it a look! Thank you for your kind review! :)
Oh, I might look into implementing that. Weirdly enough, game was inspired by a Bluey episode. Thank you playing and the kind praise.
nice concept, and a beautiful implementation. reminds me of "schim". sadly, I also had the already mentioned screen bug, but overall, the game is impressive! good job :)
Really beautiful game! The art is lovely, and I really enjoyed the mechanic. Swimming through the shadows was really cool. The lamp shadows were quite punishing though and I found that I kind of stuck to objects as I was trying to get around them. Anyway, a really lovely game. Great job!
Really neat idea! I frequently found the movement a bit frustrating which was compounded by it seeming like sometimes I would die in very little time. It may be that it was the same amount of time but just that I was unsuccessfully trying to move a short distance, but something about that just seemed off.
Regardless, much of this was really well done. The art and audio were great, the shadow shifting mechanics was cool, and I liked the inclusion of clouds as an alternate form of shadows (though it’s unclear why cloud’s shadows would move less that other objects, ha ha).
Great job!
Good audio and very charming/cozy graphics! The idea is quite nice too, and I liked how you used the sun wildcard. The only problem I had with the game was the difficulty. It was a bit hard right from the second level. The controls feel good, and overall the game is a pleasant experience with a pretty ending. Congrats, nice job!
What a beautiful game! The art style was fantastic and I really enjoyed the puzzle mechanic of the levels. Controlling the sun was a great move.
I did run into a soft lock where the camera went back to a previous screen after dying, but my poor coy was stuck on the next screen, off camera.
Excellent work!
Thanks for playing the game, it was fun to see that we had similar game concepts.
Like I said in another comment, I found out about that bug a little to late and will be patching it after the Jam is over.
I really like this. The changing time of day is a cool aspect. Nice work here
This game was awesome! I got 6/7 stars! Really satisfying to go for the collectibles. Really interesting core mechanics that worked really well. The level design was really good and made it a real challenge to get some of them, but never felt too difficult. I really liked the balance for the difficulty. Love the way the shadows are rendered too. The artwork is really pleasant and the whole game feels super polished. Amazing work! I had a lot of fun completing the game :)
Super chill experience, nothing beats chimes to put the soul at ease. The shader for the shadow puddles was gorgeous, and the ending was really satisfying. Nice work.
Love the aesthetic here! Fun little game with a relaxing score.
Fun game i really liked the game it was fun and creative idea. I liked the visuals and art very cozy and relaxing. The background music was really matching the visuals. Beside dying a lot it was a great concept. Great Work my friend.
Super cute and fun game! I did run into a bug once where, when I died, the camera didn't go to the correct checkpoint, so I had to start over. Besides this, it was a great experience! Good work all!
Unfortunately, that soft-lock was brought to my attention after the submission period was over. I will fix it after the Jam though. Thanks for playing.
What a pleasure to find yourself in the ocean at the end :D
Good job for the game !
Thank you for your feedback, thanks for playing our game :D. We discovered the ocean's vibe by accident, and we decided to make it our end for that reason! Very glad that you found it as enjoyable as we did!
I really really liked the puzzle mechanics, I think they were very well done and I liked the fact that to solve a puzzle you had not only to think about the screen that you were seeing but also about the screen before or after that.
Like others said the controls were kinda clunky and I think the culprit was that the koi was keeping the inertia, I think you could give a try at removing it, maybe it will be better (probably make the character as a CharacterBody2D instead of a RigidBody2D).
Oh and I also liked the addendum of other mechanics like the clouds and the obstacles that were in the middle of shadows, after that I didn't do much but when I have some more time I'll try to finish it too.
Good job!
Thank you for playing our game, and appreciate the feedback!
The controls were made a bit slippery by design, we thought a fish kinda moved a bit like this in water? At least we tried mimicking a movement that matched that of a fish in water and also to make the game a bit more challenging!
Glad you enjoyed the level design aspect of it, we had limited assets for the shadow casting so I'm glad it came out alright!
Anyhow thanks for playing the game!
PS: Try to get to the ending, I promise it's worth it! :)
It looks really nice, and has a fun puzzle type but the pacing felt a bit off. It was really tricky right from the start and I felt like my solutions were not intended? (But I couldn't figure out what was intended) The second screen was a little punishing, too, since you are sent all the way back to the start.
Yeah, interesting to see I wasn’t the only who thought the pacing was a little off. Though by the time I realized it, it was a little late in the jam. I think what we could’ve done in general would’ve been to just make the lamp posts a much easier piece to navigate around. Thanks for trying it out.
Looks great!
I had some challenges with the controls, landing the fish exactly where I wanted to. Other than that, fantastic game!
Especially loved the audio and graphics.
Thanks for your feedback plex! At the beginning we were worried that the game would be too easy, so we made the fish slide the tiniest amount to give it like a... water-like inertia? Since it's like a fish but swimming in shadows. I do think the puzzle aspect of the game ended up being decent enough so we might redo the control scheme a little for a future version! :)
This game looks and plays AMAZING! congratulations to the whole team
Thank you Dewott! We gave it our best and are glad to have our game be met with such appreciation! I hope you had a great experience and a fun time :D
