Congrats for winning the jam, I also really liked some of your past submissions to GWJ.

Hey, everybody in the Godot Wild Jam discord congratulates you on your well deserved win! You should join in the Discord sometime!

(+1)

I must say, the fact that you reward players who mess around in the settings is amazing!

Fantastic entry; a brilliant take on the theme, executed perfectly. I wish it had had something of an ending; something to acknowledge that I'd cleared away everything but the endless virus, but that's about the only criticism I have.

Perfect

Wow, a really impressive project! Even with quite "simple" game mechanics, it was quite fun to play. I really liked the art style and sound effects. A very polished game, good job! :)

Awesome game! Reached level 27 in endless :)

Submitted(+1)

Juicy and tasty, played it on desktop browser(firefox). No sound issues, got the burger theme playing on the background :) From the SFX and Tweening to the Settings options, the attention to detail and presentation is on point. The difficulty, although slightly anxiety-inducing, it's accordingly calibrated to be a challenge.

Impressive work LittleBeardMan! Hope to see more of your developments in the future :D
PD: Got to level 19 on endless mode :)

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yeah the song I made for Monstro Burger is definitely my favorite one I've made this year (Glad you didn't have any audio issues!). I think the highest I got to was 15, so you've officially beaten me at my own game lol. I hope to see you in future jams as well!

Yet again another great entry from you! Well done and as always high polish here. Really enjoyed how you interpreted the theme. Also I liked how you embeded your name and the Godot Wild Jam into the game. As others said before a proper ending could have rounded it up a bit more. Well done and good job on this!

This was really fun ! Thanks for submitting

Charmed by the retro presentation, music, and theme! UI work is awe-inspiring, and the minigames with the spam popups and necessity to move the window layered over the core games were the right kind of chaotic.

Only constructive criticism I can think of is I wish there was an endgame with something to note that the viruses were all defeated, and maybe a last stand with that dastardly Beardy admitting defeat (or otherwise getting the upper hand and torturing you ever after in the uncloseable endless mode!).

Developer

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah you aren't the first person to bring up the lack of an ending, it's definitely kind of strange how the game just kind of "is over" lol. Having an unlosable endless mode or just having Beardy ruin your desktop somehow is a really funny idea though, I like it!

Submitted(+1)

Great interpretation of the theme. Only minor nitpicks are I think I did everything minus beating endless but no reward/credit/conclusion scene

Love the pixelated desktop and spam windows that kept popping up. Very well done. Shame about chrome and the music, I could hear sound but no music

Developer

Thanks for playing! I agree that I should have probably added a little conclusion after you beat all the levels (Honestly that should have been when the endless mode icon was added to your desktop), one of those things I just forgot about until it was pointed out to me.

Ah okay, so sound effects were playing for you but not the music, interesting. Yeah I'm not totally sure what I messed up/what changed with the web export, I'll have to look into it more once the voting period is over.

Ok... So... Where do I start? There's so much to say (all positive things, I swear!).
First thing first, I recognized you from the GWJ#60 (Yokai Panic), and I have to say that I'm awed by this gem. (^˵◕ω◕˵^)
To say that the idea is genius would be an euphemism. I liked how the page description fit very well with the game and also provided the preface, like the few lines at the back of old DVD cases.
The AI animation is fun to watch. I liked that it says different things when I click on the sprite.
Onto the game itself: I enjoyed the small bit of story at the beginning and all the minigames. I think that you found the perfect balance between funny and playful/mischievous in some cases, especially with the spam and the AI that sometimes moved the window (or was it just my impression?).

After I finished the three levels, I noticed that the icons on the monitor could be clicked, but I absolutely loved the idea.
Adding the option to disable Beardy and/or Spam was a nice touch and really helpful for accessibility. Kudos.

Thank you a lot! You're really too kind lol. I had a lot of fun making this, just adding in little things that made me laugh- so I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've been participating in all the GW jams so far this year, so it makes me happy to see someone recognize me from one of the previous month's jams lol. Makes me feel like I'm improving! Thanks again!

My favourite game of the jam so far! I turned spam off in the end, but actually it made things less interesting so I totally understand it being there. I think everything is pretty much perfect in this game: the graphics serve the theme beautifully, the mini games are simple to grasp and hard to win (with the spam on!)

Developer

Thank you for playing, I really appreciate it! I think there are probably tweaks that could be made to the spam to make it less "actually annoying" lol. Maybe have less individual popups but make them bigger? Or maybe make the buttons to close them bigger so you don't have to be quite as precise? I agree that they can get a little tedious lol.

Regardless, it always makes me happy to hear people actually using the accessibility/difficulty/toggle settings I add. Thanks again!

That was fun :D

This was a great concept, and executed quite beautifully! I loved in particular how all the settings (the normal settings and the music) were blended into the desktop environment. It just made the game super cohesive--the entire game literally is taking place on this desktop.

The microgames were enjoyable--I loved having to close the spam windows at the same time as performing the microgame, and I also liked the Beardy interactions, although I think I personally would have liked the falling obstacles to be slightly harder to dodge, as they never really felt like a threat in my playthrough. That said, the times when he yoinked my game window were quite fun.

One UI issue I ran into: I initially completely did not pay attention to the file names, and so I figured "Endless" was just a name of some file I needed to clean up. Eventually I realized it really was an endless gameplay mode. At this point I tried to close the window, but the X buttons don't work (which I guess makes sense, because it would be annoying to accidentally close one--although that could be an interesting hazard!) Okay, so I figured I would just open one of the other files. At this point both the Endless file and one other file were open, and everything seemed to work. Eventually I did manage to lose in the Endless game, and so I was able to close the window. However, at this point, the spam windows stopped spawning and Beardy stopped attacking. And then, what seems to have happened is I won the 10 microgames that I needed to, but then the window just didn't actually get completed, and I had to re-play it again, and at that point the spam windows and Beardy started working again.

So it seems like there are possibly some bugs happening there. One possible UI improvement I can think of--enable the close button when two files are open? Or maybe instead of a close button, have a minimize button, that paused that file (so the next time you opened it, you would be back where you left off). I don't know, some things to consider.

One other thought I had: I think it would be cool to have some more particles/animations, e.g. when blowing up the viruses in the shooting game, or collecting them in the collecting game, etc.  This could just slightly improve the game feel. That said, the "instant despawning" effect does fit the overall aesthetic of the rest of the game.

Overall, I had a great time with this. It was a lot of fun playing with the different features on the computer, and the core microgame gameplay was really good as well.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah what you're saying seems to make sense, there's probably a few potential improvements there to help prevent that situation from happening lol. Making it more clear what the endless icon did (or just not showing it until you've fixed all the other files) would probably help.

I didn't realize you could actually open one of the other corrupted files while you had the window for endless mode up, because that would definitely cause problems lol. The desktop node itself (Rather than the popup window running the minigames) is handling stuff like spawning spam windows and attacks, and listens in for a signal from the minigame window to determine whether you won or lost. After you lose in one window it probably stopped listening until you opened it again. There should probably be a way to close those windows when you really want to (You're right in that I disabled the close button since I kept accidentally clicking it lol), maybe I can just add a hotkey or something that closes it. Minimizing it isn't a bad idea, maybe you could even use that as a sort of dodge to avoid certain attacks. Might open up room to make the attacks more threatening.

Agree on the polish/particle effects in the minigames. The minigames themselves unfortunately kind of ended up being an afterthought as I added and tweaked things in the rest of the game. If I were to do this again I'd probably focus on them a bit more.

Regardless, thank you for playing! I appreciate the feedback!

Oh wow, I hated this, in the best possible way! *-*

The gameplay is pure chaos - fun chaos -  and changes constantly with different mini-games. However, I loved how you managed to create such variety with few core solid mechanic: the goal is always clear, and the controls are easy enough to put you immediately in the gameplay. The little spam windows are terrible, but I laughed out loud reading them and somewhat it felt good to cancel them out.

Also, everything is incredibly polished and beautiful: I loved the art style and the sounds, but most of all, HE SPINNING.

Congratulations, your game made me laugh hard and feel the adrenaline. I loved this, thank you! :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I had a lot of fun working on the presentation and adding in dumb little jokes to make myself laugh lol, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Really impressive execution!

Submitted(+1)

Hell yeah! Very polished, as I've come to expect from your games. Reminds me a lot of hypnospace outlaw, which is high praise from me. Keep up the good work.

Developer(+1)

Thank you, I appreciate it! Yeah for some reason I've been really into games that create fake desktop UI's, Hypnospace Outlaw definitely being one and more recently, the main menu of Sludge Life.

just added sludge life to my wishlist lol
