You are a merciful dev with your respawn locations, I appreciate it! 🙏

I really like this! The platforming felt really tight and refined to me. It was so satisfying when some of the jumps were perfectly lined up with the apex of the jump. The lighting and the overall aesthetic was really well put together too!

Not the best platform-gamer, but with that, I really appreciate the forgiving respawn areas.  I enjoyed the graphics, music, and the lighting was really cool as well!

I did struggle a bit with the jumping mechanic that has been mentioned a few times, however overall, great mechanics!

4:34.. which I'm quite happy with as some of the platforming was tough for me!

This is just a really polished entry, congratulations. I really enjoyed how the level looped around on itself.

Under 2 minutes? No, but had a nice time 5:55:55

Nice game, would like to see more levels

Nice borrowing game haha really enjoyed it. The mood, and others pointed out, is quite good. On my second try I managed to get a horrible 3:37:65 for the time (GJ on the confetti too btw haha)

I hope you don't mind, but here are some suggestions (just my opinion in the end):

  • I found the jump press a bit too unforgiving some times, you know? Coyote time and jump buffering are somethings that could make the controls feel better;
  •  Adding a squish to the character when jumping is quite a nice touch on a platformer. With a Tween node, doing so is quite easy.

Once again, I hope you don't mind these comments!

I hate platformers! I die too much. This is not you fault. I'm just not very coordinated!

Lovely look to the whole thing. The lighting is really spot on!

Developer

Thank you, sir!

Another ruins platformer maker here :D

Nice art and overall atmosphere! Overall I liked the level, it was quite cohesive with look and feel. However I felt that at some places gameplay and level design didn't really meet (ie. multiple jumps that require you to accerelate and stop abruptly). Adding variable jump height could help :)

Fourth comment about ...suboptimal controls :D. Thanks for playing and I'll definitely keep this in check next time with more playtesting by different kinds of players.

I wouldn't say that the controls are bad, in fact I'd say that they're better than average jam game. However level design should go hand in hand with controls. ...But don't look at my game, we couldn't nail it either :D

I really liked:

  • pixel art
  • music (except the grunt sound :D )
  • level design: It's not boring

However controls were frustrating. I would have like more control over the jump.

Great entry, thanks

Developer

Thanks for playing and the feedback. I'll definitely focus more on the movement especially in this genre in the future.

Good job designing this game!  For the most part the game runs pretty well!  The animation is fluid and the platforming works.  The acceleration was a bit hard getting used to, and some of the sound effects were a bit jarring for me (i.e., the death noise).  I'm also not great at speed running games, but I do appreciate that you re spawn at checkpoints.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I'll have to focus more on the movement the next time I'll be making a platformer (or updating this one, heh).

Feel like platformer in an ancient setting was a common idea for this jam (I made one too!)

Liked:

  • variety of hazards
  • death animation is great
  • challenging but has forgiving checkpoints

Didn't like:

  • acceleration didn't feel great and it was frustrating for those jumps that required you to be moving on a very small edge in order to actually make the jump
  • limited movements, would've been smoother to play with other platformer movements like wall jump or a shorter jump when you half press the space bar

Other Suggestions:

  • There is a glitch on the escape route where the check point is in line of the arrows so if you respawn on top of the arrow you die and it keeps repeating for a bit
  • In addition to time, death count would also be a fun addition
Developer

Thanks for the detailed feedback! I'll have to look into the movement a bit more. I must say I've got used to the unusual acceleration and it didn't feel weird later on at all. My fault of not playtesting sooner with other people :D
