Lovely visuals, audio & atmosphere, the gameplay is simple but doesn't overstay it's welcome, it feels very polished and gives a great experience! Very nice!

And I gotta ask... it's a fantastic effect, how did you do the circular planet graphics?

Developer

Thank you for your kind words!
We drew the ground of each stage in a big circle and then added objects randomly around it. Then when you walk we rotate the whole background with the background and forground objects intsead of scrolling like you normally would. It's a bit simplified explanation but that's the basic of it.

Amazing game, I love it! Have all in high level :) I love mostly the last scene with the person. Really so much detailed

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I'm happy you related to the last level. I hope your life is not completely like that ;)

Submitted(+2)

Loved it! The progression through music, gameplay, and art - all leading to that dreaded (as of currently) final form...

If only we could all so easily just start over as fish in the pixelated sea :).

Nice!

Developer

If only! Thanks for your kind words :)

Looks really beautiful. Artwork in this game look nice but at the end it looks a little rushed.

Try to avoid Instant popup that can lead to accidently input and accept to something. While the player is on in an event that need to use "space" button and there is a popup that may appear right at the moment when the player is going to press "space" button. Instead of inputting to the work screen, the player accidently give input to the popup which doesn't have any delay seconds to allow input.

Overall is nice, I wish there are more fun parts in this game, but all is ok.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback. I think all your points are valid. I'll happily learn from this for our next projects.

This was a very unique experience! Beautiful game!

Developer

Thank you! I'm happy you liked it.

Submitted(+2)

I really liked this! I like the contrast of the third evolution to the first two, and the ending made me happy. The art also looked really pretty and I thought the kicking was fun :)

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you that means a lot. We had quite similar idea for our games but wildly different execution. I thought that was kind of neat :)

Submitted(+2)

so nice, it feels like a compilation of different games that somehow are connected. I like the curvy ground was a nice touch.

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad you apreciated the curvy ground, it was fun to make.

I literally just registered on the site JUST so I could comment on what a wonderful job you did here! The adherence to style, the evolution of the style, and the decently unexpected ending that put a literal smile on my face :D

Also A+ on the Megaman references too :)

Developer

Thank you so much! If I could make you smile my mission is completed :)

loved it. Nice art, nice spin on the theme. I got so much Mega man vibe when the evolotion from on to another figure is made between the levels :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Megaman IS the NES era for me atleast. It's a big inspiration for everyone on the team.

*Mwaaah*, you're getting a huge kiss for that one. When it changed to modernity (didn't see the screenshots first) I got so excited, and it didn't take long for me to go from not liking the first levels to loving them, due to the role they play in the story.

Life was so much simpler back then. There were dangers, sure, but for some reason it was still way more serene. Those tasks you did back as a fish and a legfish that seemed so banal and overly easy to be stimulating, those just pales in comparison to data entry. You're basically worse than a prehistoric fish sitting in that cubicle.

The elevator scene was a good one. That simple interaction ("...") told me so much about the character, apart from the excellent body language in the animations.

I want this to be a grander, longer game, maybe 45-90 minutes or something, with maybe non-linear time (going back and forth) and use both the arcade platformer style as a intermission/moodsetter until you're back to the more social/storytelling part. Anyway, excellent work!

Games to maybe take inspiration from:

  • Simulacra
  • Emily Is Away Too
  • The Stanley Parable (obviously)
Developer

Thank you! I'm happy the story resonated with you in this way. We might come back to this title and explore the theme even more eventually. Thank you for the tips. I have not tried Simulacra or Emily is away too but I'll make sure to play them now.

Wowow!!! This was incredible! I loved all of the artwork throughout the entire game and was so delighted in the different styles for each stage of evolution! Not only that but the music was such a hit and I loved how in the last level you had the tune come back as a little tune from the computer in a new sound!

The variety was also present in the gameplay that I thought was wonderful throughout the game and made for such a fun and pleasant game experience! (: Awesome work!!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! That means a lot! I'm so proud of how well the music turned out.

Very cute game! I liked the ending. I'm only surprised that the eggs hurt me even when they lie on the ground - maybe make them more menacing? Not a real issue though once I figured  it out.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you for your feedback! The second stage could definetly have been better at telling the player what is dangerous and what isnt. Happy you enjoyed the game :)

Submitted (1 edit) (+2)

Woaw, congratulation you win!

No but really, this is amazing : the music, the graphics, everything...

I restarted to see if I could avoid going out with Eva from work but she kept spam texting while i was working haha :)

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you so much! That would have been a fun alternative ending: Ignore your friends and work... forever!!!

Looks more like a tiny and released indie game than a jam game XD.

The game is very immersive and relaxing, the graphics are wonderful and the mechanics combine too much with the purpose.

For the time we have, It's really impressive and, by heart, I would love for this project to continue.

For me, It's a 5/5 game.

Congrats.

Developer

Thank you! It makes me so happy to hear that you enjoyed it.

Nice game and good wrap up of the theme :)

Eggs scare me now (the hit boxes sometimes got bigger than probably intended)

Developer

Thank you kindly! Eggs can be devious with their hit boxes, just as in real life :o

Goodness. I need to stand up from my desk... and go find some shrimp.

Fantastic work. The evolution of the artistic styles was a wonderful touch. My only regret is the friend not jumping into the water with me. We BOTH needed a good re:Evolution!

Developer

Thank you! I'm happy as a shrimp for your nice comment.

Nice existential trip. I like the spritework, the animations are really nice. The tune is catchy and sounds authentic, and really cool it evolves. Personally I prefer the 'in grid' rendering of sprite rotation and such, but that's just me. Nice title!

Developer

Thank you! I like the look of in grid rendering too for that authentic feel maybe next time :)

5 out 5 in all categories.  I loved every stage and every moment of every stage in this game.  The art work is sublime.  The sounds are amazing.  The story... Oh the animation!  This game gives generously and just keeps on going.  If my games had half the ideas (let alone be as well implemented) as this game I would be a very very happy monkey.  I want this game to win the jam more than I want to feed my kids!  Well done!  Thank you so much for raising the bar for the rest of us.  You people are on another level!  Wow!

Developer

I don't know what to say. Those were some high praise. Thank you so much.

Reject humanity, go back to kicking fish.

Really cool game, I love the artstyle (and the human part is very relatable)!

Developer(+1)

I think you got the gist of it ;)
Thank you for enjoying the game.

Submitted(+2)

This game is very enjoyable and meaningful. It makes one gives thought about one's life. As a living thing, we are all still eager to have something, no matter it is shrimps or kicking butts. Perhaps this is life, we are all driven by desire.

Developer

Thank you. That was really well written.
