Congrats on finishing your jam game! This is pretty cool!
I love the idea of a platformer that so clearly cares about the number of times you've touched the ground. That's a really cool avenue to explore. You did a really good job of designing your core mechanic and making the implications clear. The cute blobs helps, too :)
I think the level design needed more time or playtesting. Most of the levels felt good enough, but one in particular I found a little unfriendly. The stage with the early paint bucket on optional key platforms. Up until this point, you've taught the player that size equates to health/durability, and that size should be preserved. However, this level actively punishes you, to the point of needing to be restarted, and it's not that short. The level provides the player opportunities to preserve size, but upon reaching the end, you realize you need to be small AND have laid a return path for yourself. Meaning, if you've reached the end and have learned the above, you've now made the level extremely difficult and more tedious. That's just not fun. It felt like getting punished for not knowing what's at the end of the stage, without having a way to know what's there. This sort of twist or wrinkle to a puzzle is common, but is much more effective when the cost to repeat the stage with the new knowledge is relatively lower.
I hope all that rambling makes sense!
Still a super cool concept and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. You did a nice job with the controls - ensuring the player had precise control while grounded is really important when the individual tiles touched are so important. I felt clever when I could be large and only balance a small bit of myself on a platform to preserve size.
Great job on your submission! Keep making games!
To be perfectly honest, I didn't enjoy the gameplay too much. Maybe it plays differently with a controller, but at least on keyboard I found it hard to land precise jumps sometimes and some levels rely pretty heavily on your ability to do that multiple times in a row. That being said, I really like the idea and the various level designs you got out of it!
Got it instantly, great challenge level, wonderful animations, nice vibe, sounds, music, art. With a platformer like this one I'd want the controls to be a tiny bit tighter, cause every misstep means potential doom, but it didn't stop me from having a great time. Excellent submission :D
This game has everything that a game needs to be great. Really enjoyed it. Want to play more of this. Well done!
This is a fantastic game. The mechanic is simple to understand and you play with in various ways. I did find one of the early levels, maybe level 2 or 3 spikes high in difficulty and then the levels after felt much easier and ramped up smoother. The movement of the blob was a little slippery at times, which I understand because of the wet paint, but occasionally felt a little frustrating on some of the more precise jumps, or when paint was low and careful steps were needed.
That all said this was a joy to play. Well done
Easily one of my favourite games in the jam. This idea is FANTASTIC! And the level design was top-notch and really made me think. 5 stars all around!
The idea is fantastic! The movement and level designs had some quirks, but there's a lot of potential here!
Challenging, but simple, I liked it! I think the hitbox of the platform was a little bit odd, maybe was something visual due to the change of scales. But it was cool to play!
I love how clever the game concept and the design are! You really have to use your brain to solve the later levels, because if you paint too many blocks before you get close to the exit, you have to restart the level. I also love the blob's design and animation. :O
Great mechanic ! I felt like the levels could have been designed more puzzle focused (which i noticed towards the end which was nice). I think the mechanic can be used really well for puzzles e.g. fitting into gaps. Could be further developed with more mechanics , like with walls that you grow when you walk along them instead of shrink (no clue what the explanation for that is, though). the little blob is quite cute also
Lovely artwork and pretty nice game !
Nice work! The mechanic of trying to avoid paintable areas was fun and the slime was pretty cute!
I got to the end! It kind of feels like "the floor is lava," but the furniture isn't accommodating to avoiding the floor completely, so you have to cheat a little, but not too much.
It was interesting in the later levels where I had to plan in advance which places I wanted to touch to leave myself a safe path back.
Cute! Love the creativity!
Cool idea with a lot of potential!
Nice implementation of the theme!
Awesome game design and puzzles
Very unique and original concept!!
really fun game. was challenging but not too hard, and the levels nicely expanded in complexity :)
also liked blob, he is very cute :)
Great level design and fun mechanic! Art and sound were very well done. The universe level end animation was great! One of my fav games so far!
