I liked the style and concept, but the button scheme was hard to use with the unique movement of the character. Lots of promise with this one though!
My Game Boy got fixed \o/
Neat little time, super short but super charming. Wish the jump didn't plummet you to the ground rapidly, but otherwise it controls really well and it's just a cute concept in general. Nice work!
Thanks!
I totally agree, the frustrating thing is I know exactly what I did wrong with the jump and it is as easy as changing a single number to fix it XD alas too late for the Jam now, hopefully it hasn't hurt my ratings too bad!
I love the idea, art is super pretty and music is great too! Love the "enemies" buttons. I've never played on the actual Game Boy but this really feels like the inside of it! :) I agree that the jump-move controls can be a bit tighter. Overall, enjoyed the game a lot!
This is pure gold as a little Game Body experience, and even more so being an actual GB Rom! If this gets expanded further in the future, I'd love to play it.
I'm very tempted to revisit it after my current on going projects :D Hopefully I'll do you proud!
Love that this is a real ROM! The scale of it was cute. I agree with a below comment that fixing the music first is a cool idea, or you could keep it the same and have a broken kind of music playing? Like tinny static. A real polished gem of the jam!
Ooooh the static'y music is a good idea! :D I'll keep that in mind!
Also thanks for the kind words! <3
Cute! A couple of notes:
Apart from that, a cute little platformer with a neat storyline! We quite enjoyed it :)
Thanks!
Yeah the controls are something I wish I'd tightened up. After developing the game I'd gotten used to them so didn't really realise how unpleasant they'd be for others to play with - the annoying thing is it's very easily fixable >.<
The Z/X thing is part of the web based emulator running the ROM rather than the game its self I believe. I'll take a look at it and see if I can offer an alternative after the Jam is over :)
Haha yeah I wish I'd had more time to make a better ending but was limited to the 48 hours due to other projects. I'm thinking of developing the game (or at least the concept) further in the future and one of the major things I wanna do is give it a real ending! :D
Thanks so much for the feedback! <3
Oh wow, I didn't even realize this was an actual Game Boy ROM that was being emulated, how cool is that!
Thanks ^_^ Yeah I should have probably made that more obvious as I guess it's one of the key selling points of it haha
The pixel art is very cool, and I like the gameplay idea, a bit like Evoland. Great work!
Thanks so much! :D
Wow that was very polished. The art and theme was great, and fixing the colour and sound had a lot of impact! I'll definitely be putting the rom onto my GB, great work!
Awww I hope it feels even better on your Game Boy! :D Glad you liked it!
This was a polished great game.
Could we not have fixed the music as first task? :)
I'll admit I was coming up with ideas as I built, I think in a version 2 I'd swap the sound and B button fixes so you get sound sooner :)
The concept of progression and having access one at the time really cool. Your game captures the charm of GB graphics! <3
Thanks! It isn't just replicating GB Graphics, it is actually a GB ROM file :D you can run it on an original Game Boy (or Color)
THATS SO COOL
this is awesome. super creative. i love how it exhibits the game-making process within the game... "i want to get to the music!" haha just like when making a game getting to putting in the music is when it gets really fun! i liked the length of the game too. perfect for a game jam
Great style and a clever idea. I enjoyed when the music came on.
Thanks! Yeah I kinda wish the sound trigger came sooner as I don't think it gets a chance to shine so well being so late into the game!
Cute premise!
The pixel art and music are neat. The GameBoy Color was my first gaming memory, and your work definitely felt authentic to the console. Enabling all the features of the device makes you appreciate each of them, whereas normally you'd take them for granted.
I think it would've been extra nice if you had incorporated the "built to scale" theme into an actual game mechanic as well, rather than just thematics. But I can imagine it would've been difficult to do so without distracting from your core concept, so I understand why you didn't do this.
Overall, a very amusing nostalgia-fueled experience!
Thanks so much! :D
Yeah I really wanted to build the theme into the mechanics more but with the limitations of Game Boy hardware plus the limitations of my skills it felt out of my scope for a short project like this. I'd wanna build it in more if I go back and develop the idea further in the future though! :)
Nice to see some Game Boy love here! <3
As it turns out, Micro Support supports the GameBoy Micro through the magic that is goomba color, nice little game.
Amazing aesthetic and fun game (might be nostalgia haha)
Wow this game is good, the only things I could pick on is that the controls aren't the most practical and it's a bit too hard. Other than that, it's great.
Might be nostalgia, but I really love the art style and idea. The gravity when falling down felt a bit too intense. Aside from that, it's a fun idea and solid execution.
Pretty cool! The color palete is perfect, gameplay is a bit hard, but still pretty cool and creative concept for the jam’s theme!
