I like the idea of random evolution. I am moving a little to slow for my taste, but overall I think you did a good job. Well done :)

Developer

Thanks for playing! yeah i think what would be best is to make the evolutions less random but still remain the feeling of randomness. during our limited half hour of testing and tweaking the movement we got combinations with quite alot of fins on whacky places which gave for quite fast and fun movement. one button press could rotate the entire thing like crazy. so i would probably aim to make that quite likely to happen and happen early on if i decide to continue with this project :)

I can't move? The art looks nice, but it's not playable.

Developer(+1)

You should be able to move, at least i am able to move. the thing is the fins unlocks your movements. so in the start you have one fin from the back which thrusts you forwards. if you get one to your left that unlocks the D button which will thrust you to the right.

i have failed comunicating this but im not really sure how to do so without a tutorial or a wall of text in the beginning.

i was hoping the fact that all you see at the start is W and when a fin appears you see the other buttons would be enough to communicate that element of the game. but im guessing thats where the confusion lies

thanks for your comment!

The connection between fins and directions wasn't communicated that well. Showing it like you did after the first fin left the impression that I can now move in three directions opposite D,S,A being left, forward, right respectively (which led me to assume randomized controls possibly because I've seen that in many games this jam). Also since it's quite dark I honestly didn't even notice the fin.

But once I tried the game again while understanding the rules it was fun. Became way too easy in a minute or so though. Maybe in the future the enemies should also evolve.

Developer

Hi! Thank you for taking your time to play our game as well as for posting feedback! And thank you for giving the game a second go after a poor first experience!  The enemies evolving is an interesting concept for sure, would love to play around with that. our initial idea was to add more enemy types that would be able to spice up the game play but in interest of time we had to cut those, sadly.

If there is anything i take with me from this project to future projects it will definitely be that things that seems clear to me as someone who worked with the systems for hours wont be clear for the average player who has not been exposed to the systems for so long, might sound obvious but i have not seen it have this big of an impact on my players experience before :D
