Your concept was great and I really loved your art style! I kind of wanted the menus to blend in a little more but I'm sure there were some constraints there. I would love to work with you on a future game jam if you're interested!
Thank you :) We wanted to add lots more to the game, like waves, different bugs, different attacks etc. Wish we managed our time a little better. Thanks you for the offer, did you work on a game this jam?
Yes I did! I did the voice acting for this: https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2020/rate/694019
Nice game! Playing this, I've definitely felt out of control. The concept is good and the graphics are enjoyable- the bugs are actually scary! Maybe you could have tried putting the base in a circle to the middle of the screen, surrounded with crops, and made the bugs come from around, so some of the crops wouldn't be so far.
It has potential to be an engaging game. I actively played it for the first minute, then the swarm of bugs came and I never left fight mode and it just became idle as I watch the bugs attack the base without ever stopping.
nice game but there kind of is a bug since the bot auto attacks the insects then ignores all other input
I guess you have to fight against both little purple bugs and big software bugs also :))
Thanks for the feedback, the "lag" mechanic had quite some issues, and almost caused us to miss the jam, wish we had more time to fix it!
Nice idea, but I wish there was some kind of waves so I had some time to plant crops without the insects pwning the station. Some kind of progressive speed and/or health increase for them would be nice too (so the robots can get them in the beginning but you're gonna need upgrades later). Good job!
I like the idea, it is a bit hard to gather how to play and the bugs can be quite hard to find but it is a good time.
Like your idea. A little bit hard to know how to play in first moments.
I like the idea. Maybe you could make the gameplay speed a little more faster.
Cool concept. There were a lot of bugs so i never wanted to leave attack mode but I think you did a good job.
The concept is interesting, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to play it. Nothing I do seems to make anything happen on screen, and I just hear sounds randomly every ~20 seconds. If you could advise me on how to play, that would be great. Thanks!
Sure, we had to really rush to get anything to upload, so the tutorial was cut. Basically you can send commands to the robots by clicking on the 3 actions in the menu Nothing, Plant and Fight, and the robots will either stop, start planting or fight buts. The gimmick is that the commands have a 10 seconds delay period (they are sent from the earth and it takes time to reach mars, also they are not telegraphed in the UI because we rushed it)
You can also use the lab for plant upgrades or robot upgrades.
Alright, my problem before was that the menu didn't open, but it works now :)
It's a decent game, but was a bit frustrating as I never had time to plant (too many bugs).
Good job, though!
Cool concept. I liked how you had to plan ahead and anticipate what you should do. One criticism I have is that there is never really a lull in the bugs' spawns, so if you get overrun, you're never going to want to get out of attack mode and back into plant mode, since they won't stop coming. Especially if you get to a point where there are no fewer than 5 bugs on the screen.
But hey, game jam, not much time to fine tune balancing. Cool stuff altogether!
Too bad we didn't think about that during development, I think it would make the game much better. Thanks!
