Yes, yes, more of this please. I would really love to see this implemented as a full game. Firstly, hats off for even just finishing a fully-functioning jrpg-style battle during a 48-hour jam, because that's just phenomenally impressive. But beyond that, you're also doing something different with the format, in a way that's iterative and playful and you know, maybe a little bit feels like it's in dialogue with the genre, kinda? You know, the thing art does.
Really, I hope that you take this concept and expand it into a full game that's built around it, where you explore the possible problem-solving spaces based on it. Oh, and since it's an RPG, a rich story crafted around it is obviously mandatory. ;-D
Rate our game too if you like! https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2020/rate/696649
Oh and it always helps when the music kicks and the art is gorgeous. What is that guy, a T-Rex-headed wizard? Freaking genius.
Thank you for playing. The character designer really is talented to come up with that idea so quickly. It certainly helped give the whole thing a different sort of charm. And honestly I'm amazed with the positive response this entry has been getting. At this point it wouldn't hurt to attempt a full game with this once I have time to work on it.
Had to get rid of my little ally... For his own good! Fun concept you have here :D
Thank you. I'm glad the concept worked.
Would have been more fun if the useless sidekick actually did something (like trying to "help you" by opening up an "escape route" which lets more enemy minions in)
That's actually a good idea. I'll keep it in mind whenever I update this. Thank you!
This guy's USELESS!
Pretty much, yeah. Thank you for playing.
I like the fire emblem approach, there’s no real challenge tho, but I understand that is only a prototype
Thank you. It was my first attempt at programming a srategy rpg battle so it took me longer than expected just to set up the basics.
He was not helping.
Indeed.
I'm not a fan of strategy games, but this was very fun. Would love to see this fleshed out. It would make for very funny dialogue
Thank you. I'd honestly love to create a story to fit the "useless sidekick" gameplay if I get the chance.
Took awhile to figure out at first but once I figured it out I really enjoyed it, this has potential
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I think the game has potencial. The Out of Control part of it is about you cant control your teammates? I dont really think its related to the theme, but that is about interpretation.
I think you should go on with the project, it has pottential
The control system, the art, and audio are great, everthing works just fine, nice job!
Thank you! I tried focusing more on polish than actually sticking to the theme. I'm glad it got the point across
lol nice system!
Setting up a regular turn took me so long I wasn't able to do much else but thank you for appreciating what is there xD
I really love the graphics!
Thank you. We tried : D
I used the fire ability and killed my friend :( and yeah the boss didn't attack and my ally just stood there..
Still I like the idea and I think it would be a cool game if you can fix those issues :)
The killing your friend with the fire skill was done on purpose. You're encouraged to work around that issue. The enemy lacking better AI (all he does is attack if you're standing in his fire range) is something I unfortunately didn't have the time to work on. Thank you the comment.
Nice idea and nice art, although the enemy didn't do anything in my run.
Yeah, the enemy is only programmed to atack if you're standing in his fire range. I wanted to put dynamic range and boss movement but art took priority. Thank you for playing.
