What a beautiful little game and unique concept. Perfectly executed, just the right length for a jam entry, and a perfect match for the theme. Top marks from me.

I love that you get extra dialogue when repeating interactions. I went to the book first and thought it was so cool to include that, then I went to the dog toy and saw that you also built-in a prompt to the player just in case they weren't checking twice.

Incredible you made all the art and music. Really well done. One small thing, I think you forgot to put-in the updated viewport dimensions on your itch page for the build. I played fullscreen from the start and it looked great, but then I went back to see what happens if I didn't remember who I was first and left early. I didn't maximize the window, so my view was cut in way tight.

Thanks for getting to it in the last moments, I know you had to decide between entries to rate! Happy to hear you felt it was a good size and length - I was actually thinking it felt way too small/short.

Thanks for the tip on the dimensions. I have a feeling it was looking better on mine due to the HDPI monitor, I’ve updated the non fullscreen dimensions for anyone who happens by it in the future.

Such a unique concept, I had a great time playing this!

I really liked the concept and music!

Nice use of sound to literally drive the story!

Was happy to see the DuckCow name, and then I wondered where do I know this from? When the game started I got to see your logo and connect the dots hehe.

I found some weird invisible wall at the top right.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for playing! And ha, well the logo was 100% meant to be placeholder that I’d get to “later” and clearly I didn’t have time for later :) Thanks for flagging the invisible wall, so much was slapped together the night before I’m amazed anything is working lol

Developer(+1)

Oh, that invisible wall. That was due to me not actually building out the whole set in time (but somehow proactively defining the collisions). Was supposed to be the bed the player wakes up from. Kind of kicking myself that I didn’t just copy over this graphic I had already drawn out in my style planning artboard (and things like posters and decorations filling in as the story expanded), time just ran short.

I get that "last moment glue things together" feeling, same thing I had to pull off...

Really enjoy the floorplan you've shared! love all the planning!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I’m definitely round 2 of 2 for “should plan less, do more” :D which btw if I didn’t make this clear enough before, I still think your entry blows mine out the water! (complete with fitting splash sound effects of course)

Submitted(+1)

hehe, same... I'm sure many people had at least a few ideas they tried going for and then just rushing to even submit one...

(hehe SFX joke appreciated :D but I think your R1 will keep blowing games out of the water for years to come!)

Short and sweet - I like that you play as a shadow self. I wonder if you could start to see more of the character as they get closer to remembering? A great foundation to build on with more, nice work!

Developer

Thanks for playing! And I 100% had that same thought towards the end of the jam. I was thiiis close to drawing an outline of a character to then have 3 levels of filled/colored out, but decided was more important to fix some audio troubles I was having.

Very enjoyable experience, I loved the story.

Really loved this, as it felt personal and hit a personal string for me. Also loved how after you fully remember everything the music got loud and amazing!

Interesting story.  Feels very personal.  Would like to see a little more in the way of sound.  Though (as a fellow pianist) I love that you performed it yourself.  Good job.

Developer

Thanks for giving it a play Mitchell! Really glad I was able to actually edit in the proper piano cover. Early on I did a rough n dirty mic recording (vs the final’s MIDI) as a placeholder, only got the replacement in at the last hour before I had to submit. So tough how to prioritize time during a jam!

Cool story and take on the theme! Also very much enjoyed the piano music

The piano music is awesome and I really like the story behind the game. I think adding a voice to the dialogue would have improved it but it's still great and I like the other sound effects and how the character is discovering things about himself

Developer(+1)

Thanks, appreciate you giving it a play! I thought about doing the narration, would have been nice for sure. It was real down to the wire to submit so better something to improve than nothing I suppose :)

Obviously some pretty deep subject matter here. I think weaving audio into the story was done well and your piano cover was evocative and set the tone. Nice work!
