Enjoyed the game and the music was fire, can you rate my game too?

Developer

The rating has ended...

but, I rated your game a few days ago... I do not always leave a comment.

Beautiful and mind trippy, I was completely entranced by it. And the music is just fantastic! I need to try playing it on mobile if that is possible. Thank you for sharing this little gem!

And if you haven't had a chance to check out my game Foxy Boom Boxy, I would appreciate any feedback, thanks!

Developer

yup, my game is probably best on mobile ...using 2 hands to drive lol

dos88 (can be found on itch) did 9 of the tracks and i supplied the other 4

i will check out your fox boom box in the morn when I get to the pc

thanks for playing

My rating is 5:3:5:5:1

Developer

3 for audio...

was it the tires? lol

i play with them off and usually do a music shuffle or 2 before I start my runs

the 5s totally make up for the theme getting a 1 in my book ...especially for the 3 categories I wanted to max out (spent the most time on)

again, thanks for playing

IT DOES NOT MATCH THE THEME!!!

Developer

some see the theme, some do not

thanks for playing

Wow wow wow!! That was such a trip! Really unique experience and enjoyed it fully! Had me hooked the whole time

Developer

thanks

trip - might be the word most associated with this game in this gamejam lol

glad you enjoyed the 'trip' lol

Very pretty, well executed game with cool music, but I could only look at it for a few seconds before it started to make me feel sick. I get really bad motion sickness though. But I wish I didn't so I could appreciate the entry more. Nice work from the little I saw (and heard)!

Developer(+1)

no worries

9 of the 13 tracks were posted by dos88 here on itch ( aspect of the game you CAN enjoy without motion sickness...and include in future games ) ...check em out

i did the other 4 tracks

thanks for giving it a shot though

I can't be objective because I experience motion sickness with this kind of game. I tested for a few seconds, but the effect came quickly ^^ Perhaps if the road was slower, with softer colors, and fewer players like me would be affected. From what I saw briefly, you're on theme, so congratulations :)

Developer

thank you for your honesty ... certain portions of the game would have really messed you up later in the lap...so it is probably good you stopped when you did

lol

thanks for giving it a shot though

Good game. Bending the road is something I need to learn. But unfortunately I can't play because of the light effects

Developer

unfortunately, i do not think there is a way to avoid the 'light flashes' or the potential for motion sickness...they are sort of built into the game's aesthetic (the way the game works)

thank you for giving the game a try

good luck in the jam

That was... psychedelic... To be honest I went into a trance playing that one, which I think it's a good thing?

Submitted

Good game! I have no idea how you did the movement of the road. Thumbs up!

Developer

good game as well...for your game...catchy tunes nice pixel work and a cool mechanic

Submitted (1 edit)

This is really good, I have no idea how you were able to do that. Really mind bending effects. I hope you try to make an actual racing game with it keeping one effect per race as that would be really cool and amazing.

Developer(+1)

I made a 3d perspective game long before it was an engine feature.  If anyone is curious, I am still using v5.1.158 ...without 3d

Originally the game was endless and used only plain white rectangles.  As hypnotic as that silent game was, it did get/feel a bit boring.

If you would like to experience a lap with 1 of the 7(8) 'road-modes'...I can make a build that allows it, but you will probably get bored and want to go back to the 8 modes...(mode 8 is the white/purple flashy bit before the UFO... and I do not want to give people, or me seizures lol)...or is it 9 modes?  I don't have the time to make those builds until the weekend.

a white UFO, a shapepainter, and a white rectangle...

After I posted this game I did make a prototype for something that uses the same perspective concept but instead of open road, it is a tunnel in space... or a messed up clock...or maybe alien intestines ...idk...and... but uses arrow keys(can still run and experience on mobile, but you won't experience the full effect on mobile)...arrow keys allow you to alter(slightly) the path ahead of you.  4 sprites for this game...I went all out ...jk.  I am probably not going to work on tunnel pilot further...just an idea.

That is amazing, thank you!

I found some time today and made a mode select...original and the rest of the versions...pretty self explanatory.

This is one of the best games I've played this jam. It's mesmerizing. It's calming. It's difficult, but never unfair. It's cerebral. It's art in motion. The shapes are so simple, and yet they bend at all the correct angles. You can see the road ahead of you: endless, obscure.

I'm surprised to learn that this was developed without the theme in mind; I thought it was obviously on-theme. The score is tied to staying on-road and is penalized for going off-road. The art is basically 1-bit for the most part (1 bit is basically on/off). The aesthetic and gameplay is tied directly to the idea of absence and the visual emptiness of driving at night. Whether on purpose or accident, it's a very artistic interpretation of the theme, one that doesn't involve switches or lightbulbs.

Maybe it should have a lights warning. I did not guess from the minimalist cover that my eyes would be tested like that. That's all I can think of.

Fantastic. Great work.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much.  That is really nice praise(coming from the first place game...you).  That whole first paragraph...thank you.

I probably should add a light warning like you did ...and a motion sickness warning too(I have sickened many people's motions... no... I have caused motion sickness for many people).

It was actually made in a few hours and then I spent a week messing with the...  'walls'...'guardrails'... whatever those things are called.

I would rather undersell and blow minds, than oversell and disappoint(the thumbnail).

I am surprised at how well the game has been received honestly.

thank you

When I first tried the game was when you posted it on Gdevelop reddit. I found it really difficult there (I played with mouse). Now I've tried it with mobile and it felt so much easier and fun! Loved the retro feeling, also the music. Maybe it doesn't fit the theme, but seeing that UFO on the horizon and finishing it felt super cool. Congratulations!

Developer

Thanks for giving it a second go

but aw man, you could have played with arrow keys back then lol ...it WAS very plain back then

You could add a description:

Easy Mode; Touch

Normal Mode: Keyboard

Extreme gamer: Mouse

Haha

Totally wacky and hypnotizing. Excellent effect. It reminds me of the old Vectrex console.

yes...totally... this guy gets it!

lol this is more like you're on an acid trip than a game. (You don't even need to steer, it'll just follow the road anyways). No connection to the theme, but those visuals are awesome! I'd love to see a more fully fleshed out 'real' game here.

Developer

um the theme...keep your eyes ON the road and...um...  crashes causing an end to the run has been turned OFF...yeah...

not convinced... i made a game that i wanted to make within the timeframe and ruleset ...'oh well' for the theme

to achieve a score and see the second sprite, steering is required 'about' every 10 or 20 seconds or the lap restarts...avg lap is 'about' 3 minutes

everything is 'about' - due to the gamespeed being different every playthrough, the message, the music

2 sprites and a shapepainter

i made something similar yesterday using 4 sprites and a similar concept, but it needs a keyboard's arrow keys to steer...and it is less fleshed out

thanks for playing and the feedback

Well the game is absolutely fun, but it doesn’t fit the theme, you could have atleast made it so your lights are broken and for some random period of time you don’t see the road…

Developer

Only your headlights are On.  All the streetlamps are Off.

lol...I don't care about the theme

I honestly tried that, but with the road curving as often and unpredictably as it does...it worked as a point killer...was frustrating and felt more unfair to the player.

Thanks for your input though, and for playing

Wow, the game design is truly captivating and keeps me engaged. However, I did encounter a bit of difficulty with the controls, and I'm uncertain if the game completely aligns with the theme of this game jam.

Developer(+1)

theme...oh um...the sound and music can be turned on and off...yeah...thats the ticket

the controls are as tight as intended...meant to be like a student driving instructor, giving a helpful tap or an extreme change in direction...

(squealing tires is bad)

thanks for playing
