Fun little game. The tank explosions were spectacular. Nice SFX and music.

I never found any power ups though and I got to level 4, am I missing something?

Well done on your submission.

Developer(+1)

That is weird that you never got any power ups.  I usually get them 2 or 3 tanks in.  They also show up on the minimap as little green dots.

Music and sound are what I consider my biggest weakness, so I'm glad you liked them.  There was a lot of experimenting with BFXR and Bosca Ceoil for this jam.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, but it's way better with power ups.  I hope you try again.

I played it again up to level 3 on a different browser but still didn't get any :(

Although I did get a couple of tanks to destroy each other which was fun :)

I've used BXFR in the past, it's pretty good, but I didn't know about Bosca Ceoil, so thanks for mentioning them, I'll check it out.

This was a very fun tank battler! I like how you kept the movement crisp and fast on the tank because although a slower plodding movement is more tank like it wouldn't be as fun (in my opinion). The enemy death explosion VFX holy cow! When I killed my first enemy tank, I thought I had triggered some crazy rocket spewing boss unit. It turned out having a huge radius on the death explosion was really helpful when I would get the rapid-fire power up and start spraying in the direction of red and orange dots on my mini map. I would see the shards of the kill and hear it (excellent sound effects throughout the game I should also mention) way before I could see the enemy in my view which was satisfying.

Great game!

Developer

So nice to hear you enjoyed it.  I was aiming for arcade style, big, bombastic fun with loud guns and louder explosions.

The visuals are the first thing attracting me in this, I loved the gameplay as well since it is so fun, This is a great work!

Developer

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

The exaggerated particles were interesting! Lol. Sound effects and screen shake added juice, but what happened to the background music? You did a Great job!

Developer

Hah, thanks.  I'm glad you liked it.

I do not do music.  I opened up Bosca Ceoil and managed to make a 7 second loop that wasn't making my ears bleed.  BUT, having a 7 second loop repeating the entire time you're playing got really annoying after about 21 seconds, so I took it out.  I do enjoy trolling my players when I make jam games, but I really don't want to hurt them by making their ears bleed.

Nice job! The mini map helped a lot. Well done!

Developer

Awesome, glad you liked it!

That's a pretty intense explosion there on the enemy, thought it was interesting actually. Overall, nice job on the game!

Developer

Thanks for playing!  I'm glad you appreciate the explosion, but it has to be the most polarizing aspect of my game.  Wow.

Submitted

Great Job! I really enjoyed it but the explosion effect could be turned down a notch.

Developer

Awesome, thanks for playing.

I need a better response to this.  Something like, "If the explosion is too big you're too old!", or "Go big or go home!"  But honestly, the explosion was an experiment to make it hard to see on a battlefield, but I will definitely do it differently next time.

Very polished, especially as a solo entry. I think that the game is a little easy, since I was able to aim fairly well using the mini map and kill enemies before they ever got close to me, maybe adding a range cap to the bullets and making enemies move a little faster may help? I also didn’t feel a huge difference with the rapid fire powerup since I could click fast enough to deal with enemies fairly easily, so maybe enforcing a lower manual fire rate could help make it feel more impactful? Well done on the entry!

Developer(+1)

Awesome!  Thanks for playing, I'm glad you liked it.

The rapid fire really just gives your finger a rest.

Neat game, the mini map was super helpful in combat. Enemies weren't really too difficult to deal with because they were one shot, and the range on them seemed fairly small.

Nice job :D

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it!  There are 3 different kinds of enemies and the rate of fire, rate of movement, and range they fire is higher with the more yellowish ones.  Before I added the ability to zoom out, they would snipe you from off screen, which was kind of cool, but not much fun.

Submitted(+1)

Lol yeah, it's definitely a better feeling to destroy the enemy than the enemy annihilate you!

Submitted

very polished and nice game. love the mini map and shooting just aim and shoot from the other side of the map and the enemies die. Also like how the powerups also show on the mini map. The movement controls and shooting controls are smooth.

Developer

Awesome, glad you liked it.

Nice shooter.
Mini map is a must have feature! Well done!

Developer

Thanks for playing and I'm glad you liked it.

A solid base that shows some potential. I loved the particle effects for blowing up enemies but as you get to the higher levels it starts to obscure the screen a little. I made it to level 11 before getting shot down. Good Job!

Developer

I'm glad you liked it!  The obscuring of the screen was one of the ideas I had going in to make it feel like a war zone.  If I had more time it would have been smoke.  Level 11 is pretty good.  At some point you learn the patterns of the enemies and can just keep going indefinitely, so after about 10 levels it starts to get a little boring anyway.

Nice little arena shooter, had a bit of fun here.  Some more upgrades and weapons would really elevate this bad boi!
Also liked the minimap implementation, is it a second camera drawing to render texture?

Developer

Hey, glad you liked it!

Yes, the minimap is just a render texture that shows sprites instead of the 3D models.  If I had more time, I would've loved to have added more powerups.

I thought the explosions from the enemies dying were going to damage me too. Not bad for 2 days of work.

Developer

You should always fear explosions!  Thanks for playing!

Good game! Simple but effective. Perhaps the very large particles can be confusing, making it hard to tell whether they are rigid objects or just an effect.

Excellent job, especially for having done it in such a short time!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you liked it!

Due to my tight schedule, 90% of this was done in 2 days and kept as simple as possible, thus the whole arcade style, high score type of game.

I was going for a confusing, chaotic battlefield where it was hard to see and a lot of screen shake.  So in version 2, they'll probably be rigid objects instead of a particle effect.  I love the idea of trash piling up on the battle field that can be pushed aside or blown up.  But maybe not for a jam game.

Submitted

The game overall is okay. It is a solid little game. I think it has too many particle effects and if I am not mistaken the enemies can kill each other when they are standing behind the other. But over all it is a solid implementation and fun for a little while.

Developer

Thanks for playing!  I wasn't sure I was going to get more than the first weekend to work on this, so 90% of this was done in 2 days and kept as simple as possible.

I toyed with the idea of not letting the enemies kill each other, but I was influenced by Berzerk and how I loved the way the robots would shoot each other and run into walls.

The particles weren't quite how I wanted them to be, but I was going for a confusing, chaotic battlefield where it was hard to see and a lot of screen shake.  Next time around I'll probably spawn debris and smoke instead of exploding cubes.
