feels like a good foundation that could easily be built upon, it's a shame you guys ran out of time to get it further. however, what you've made works and feels pretty cool. good job !

Well done creating a bow and arrow mechanic.

I really like the red eyes of the boss.

The mushroom only threw a rock and then stood there menacingly.

Great job at creating a game and submitting!

Thanks for playing! I’m surprising you’re the only one to find that loop so far! I have a fix staged for it right now but am working on further testing.

At first the game was entertaining, but then it got repetitive really fast.

I just used the machinegun approach to the bow, clicking as fast as possible. After the mushroom got full armor it got to a point where it died in very few shots. I guess that was the end of the game, since there was no game over screen.

I liked the visuals, with the glowing bow and arrows and the huge enemy. The music and sound effects were OK.

Suggestions for improvement:

- Add a health bar to the enemy. Make it larger as the enemy gets stronger.

- Give the player something for trying to use the bow in charged mode. Like, armor penetration or visibly higher damage. Without a healthbar it's hard to show this to the player.

- Speaking of showing stuff to the player, make it more obvious when a hit connected and when it got deflected. Probably would be good to add some visual sparks or particles.

- Make the enemy do other moves as it grows stronger. Only throwing one rock becomes less threatening as the game goes on.

- Add a timer and give points to the player depending on how fast they defeated the fungus. You could even send this scores to a leaderboard.

Thanks! We had a lot more plans for this jam but ran out of time since we both got caught up in work. We had plans to add varying animations/attacks for the Giant as well as smaller mobs that made it more difficult. I also planned to add a health bar for the Giant and some more variability as well as add a load of visuals to enhance the environment. Thank you for the feedback and I will get them added to our list if they aren't already on it! It ultimately came down to us rushing to get done whatever we could in the last 2-3 days (while camping). I'm just glad we were able to get something submitted!

Played and rated. Good job for submitting for your first game jam!

It was playing with the bow, I personally used the spammy way haha. The music didn't really fit and the gameplay can be improved a lot, but for a starting point it's nice!

Would appreciate if you check out and rate our game as well: https://hadilepanda.itch.io/rise-of-necromancy

Was fun shooting with the bow, felt like I was even curving the arrows like the Movie Wanted hahaha. The music i personally think doesn't fit. It sounds more like an uplifting victory like music maybe but for battle it a bit off. Fun game. Well done.

There is no Linux version so I cloned the git repo... The project was done in Unity 2022.1, does it require any features from it?

Developer

The only one may be the visual scripting as we used that for one feature. Besides that, I don’t believe so

Those are really big mushrooms :O This is a little bit psychedelic I like it! I would probably change the bullets for something bigger but I love how it looks in general.

From one mushroom to the other... great job! I loved the way the fungus changes appearance when he died and gained the armor. There probably should be a cooldown on the non drawn arrow attack. The best way to kill him right now is to spam the left click. And some better feedback on if you hit the right spot or if it bounced would be nice maybe some particle effects?

Developer(+1)

thanks! We plan to add a power modifier related to how drawn the arrow is to make the player have to fully draw to get a decent shot. We also plan to add effects for arrows hitting, rocks smashing the ground, and possibly even the mushrooms steps. Currently it is just a sound effect for the arrow hitting/missing but I’m not sure it’s reliable as the mesh colliders are acting a bit weird

ADORABLE BIG BOI MUSHROOM WONT DIE vs Chad archers 1000 arrows per minute xD Please keep working on this, I love the boss fight mechanic. If you got time, come check out my game too :)

Developer

Thanks for testing! We definitely hope to keep working on this. We had bigger plans for this jam but both ended up working extra and not having much time to work on it. Hopefully going to add mobs that vary each time he dies and some other features to make it more interesting.

Nice game! Loved the animation of the big fungus! And really good graphics. Not sure what to do, after having knocked out the fungus 3 or 4 times however. Nice job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! We had plans to add additional complexity, such as different sub fungi spawning as well but didn't have the time we had hoped. Currently he just spawns back with more health and armor.

Hi, I noticed your submission is missing source. Your source is everything someone needs to download your game, open it in the game engine, and hit Play to play the game. Here is an example of the files to include: https://github.com/icepol/DeathIsOnlyTheBeginning

Hi Yang, thank you for letting me know. I have added a link in the description to the github page as well as attached a zip folder containing the source code.

Yup, it looks good now :)
