Thank you for this, it's my kind of game! Instant action and fast paced. The ability to brake, rather than boost, felt very useful and original. I was impressed with the level of polish.

Developer

Thank you so much! The polished feel was exactly what I was aiming for!

Fun and I really like the background. It has depth and movement but it's not distracting. Particle effects were nice too and the movement was  smooth.

Developer(+1)

The particle effects  and the background took a lot of time but I see it paid off! Thank you!

Great fast-paced space shooter. Fun to play. The music really helps the feeling of the game.

How did you do the distribution of the asteroids?

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you playing! The distribution of enemies I think is pretty simple, you see...

We got two rows: the first one and the second. They are affected by the player's rotation so basically they're always in front of him outside the camera. When it is time for a hazard to spawn it picks a row and picks a random point to spawn on. We need two rows as some objects (Meteors) might spawn so big that they can be seen appearing on the camera edges.

If you want to go more in depth visit the github's scripts/systems folder and look for the random gen script

The game was great! The art was amazing and the feel of the game was great. It was a very creative approach to the theme.

Developer

Thank you :>

Awesome game!  The music is great, and the graphics and sound effects are so crisp.  Really feels good to play.  I especially like the trails for the ship thrusters, explosions, etc.  Are those just customized Unity Particle System trails, or something else you made?

I like this use of the theme as a game mechanic, and I'm totally not biased since my game you played also has upgrades on death.  :-)

One critique I would give is that I initially found myself wanting to use the brakes to carefully shoot at something, but using the brakes narrows the camera which makes it harder to see what I'm trying to shoot.  Of course, I ended up using the brakes less and less anyways since standing still was too dangerous with lots of enemy ships on screen!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! And yeah the trails are just the default unity trail effect and for the explosions i use the default unity particle system. The critique is very very fair tbh the breaks meant a lot more during the early testing phase but in the end they're not really that useful, but now thinking about it I could maybe add a 'focus' mechanic which basically slows down all the enemies when using the breaks which could give you a huge advantage! You could take them down with ease as their projectiles are not so fast anymore. Again thank you so much for the feedback!

Great job, legitimately had fun!

Love this game! I can see  'power ups' like weapon, shield, etc for additional game play. Very nice!

I will echo what people said. It’s a really addicting game. Very solid and hard to criticize for me. If I really had to try, I’d say it lacks a bit of a goal. At the beginning I felt like shooting things down and becoming stronger, but that feeling stops after a while, which is normal, but there needs to be a reason to continue playing and pushing through it. Maybe give it a max amount of time you have to survive or something? Anyway, that’s just my opinion though, I’m sure you also have a bunch of ideas of how to take this even further.

Developer

Yeah that is a very fair argument! If I decide to for example port the game to mobile im going to think twice about what you said to maybe find an engaging solution. Thanks a lot for the feedback!

Easily my favourite game of the jam so far, well done!

Nice shooter, love the art style and purchases.

Really fun with great style. The hit sound is satisfing and you've really made the game about dying to upgrade as the theme aspect. This looks like a really polished game with simple mechanics and clean aesthetic. Cool game.

Loved this game so much! I played it for maybe 20 minutes! The idea is neatly executed and the music is just as addicting as the gameplay.

Developer

Thank you so much! Truly our composer did such a good job!
